I played the series for the first time in chronological story order. So I watched Back Cover, then played Birth by Sleep. So the BBS trio was my first foray into the KH world, and I really have an affinity for them
I am kinda like you except my first KH game was KH2 but I was only an 8 year old who knew basic English so I didnt understand shit. Then when I played KHBBS on PSP at the age of 10, I understood most of the story and even had few tears drop while playing the secret ending in the Final Mix on PSP. Then I played KH1 Final mix in 1.5 and then KH2 Final Mix in 2.5. I wanted KH0.2 mainly for the reunion of the BBS trio but 0.2 disappointed me but I got more excited for KH3 after it and KH3 satisfied me.

So I’m going to take a stab at this power of waking explanation and I honesty don’t know but here it goes.... It sounds to me like the power of waking or PoW.... has 3 powers. The first being the ability to awaken sleeping worlds as evident by dream drop. The second power is the ability to awaken hearts that are sleep as evident by Sora using it to awaken Ventus. And the third power is the ability to traverse hearts of those who have died and revive them. So I think it’s safe to say that no one can ever really die in the KH universe unless you destroy the heart and depending on how strong the person is...depends on whether or not the heart is destroyed. I think Sora being in final world shows us that he really did die but instead of his heart fading...it was clinging to life because of Kairi’s heart. That being said If the heart is not destroyed then the power of waking allows someone to reconnect that person back to their body by traversing their heart to find their soul/spirit. But it also sounds like using the power of waking to basically revive people comes at a cost (which tbh makes sense)...and if that’s the case...it looks like Sora really is in the UG of shibuya based on the secret movie then.
The thing is that in KH one never really dies if the "death" caused by anything other than the soul leaving the body. I believe Ansem, Xehanort and another character has already stated that death is when the soul leave the body, if the person have "died" but this haven't happened then this person can be brought back to "life", can be restored, or will try to restore it's original state (nobodies for example). The PoW don't really have 3 "powers", it involves awakening hearts, and like Ansem said, there are Hearts all around us, the only thing that changes is how the use of the power interacts with the heart you're trying to awake. I believe you can say that you can use the PoW to meddle with time. Notice how after Sora revives the gang everything happens exactly the same but now, with the interference of Naminé, we have LW on our side, and how some characters seems to have awareness of the events before, and some not till the point none of them seems to remember of what happened before, besides Sora (questionable). When they say "traverse" hearts I believe that is literally try to find that heart that was lost. You have maybe your memories, and your connections and the essence of the person that probably can be felt lost somewhere, maybe in the Last World, or even on the deepest abyss of the RoD like Sora was going deeper and deeper in DDD. The thing that adds a "cost" for awakening that person's heart maybe due to how deep was the sleep. Was I clear? I like to imagine the RoS and this whole PoW thing like Inception's dreams. The deeper you are, the hardest it is to come back, or to even reach you, and this part of reaching I like to imagine like the consequences of time traveling in Harry Potter, in Pottermore it says that one cannot go into the past more than 5 hours without causing major damages to one's body or even to the time line itself, so maybe one cannot go as deep as it's needed to go to awaken some hearts without risking it's own life, it's own body to perish to the point the soul will leave the body causing this person to die. And so we come to Shibuya. That can work like, if the person dies it can get a chance of ressurection by ending up there, but you would only end up there if your death fill some prerequisites. I don't know, that's what I think hehehe

Not sure how I feel about the given reason Xemnas was looking for Ventus. It makes sense, but I always had the notion that at least part of the reason was that some of Terra was still in Xemnas (it was his body after all) in addition to Xehanort, so Xemnas would have complex feelings about Ventus as primarily this kid he used for his own ends but the echo of him really being his old friend (as he calls Aqua's armor in one of the final mix cutscenes, that's how I always interpreted that). Just in general I'd love the games to acknowledge that Xemnas while essentially being Xehanort's Nobody is literally Terra's body, I feel like no one ever brings this up.
I think i know what Nomura is trying to get people to understand about the Power Of Waking. Its basically what happenes when you die in the game only played out literally in a cutsene. The game starts as if nothing had ever happened.
I'm still wondering if Sora used the power of waking on himself during his fight with Xehanort, because we clearly see him do the game over animation when Donald and Goofy called out to him.

God help me, that’s some serious Undertale stuff if so. However, I don’t think that can be the case. Sora only obtained the Power after unlocking the Seven Sleeping Keyholes In DDD. But obviously game overs have been happening since the first game. Although.... knowing Nomura he could go super meta and say WE have the power and are using it on Sora.

I think having a dlc or section based around xehanort would be great, it would really offer some perspective. They really dropped the ball for fleshing out his character in 3. And that’s supposed to be the ending of the Xehanort saga?
To me it's pretty simple. "Waking" just means coming to the realization of the multiverse of worlds and the power is explained to be able to travel to them through someone else via the heart but they need to be connected to yours/know you.
The star imo is Strelitzia and Subject X is Skuld. Here's my theory concerning how things happened. Luxu got Xehanort into the position he needed him in, Luxu summoned Ventus to the present 1st whom Xehanort experimented on. After Xehanort split Ventus's heart into light & darkness to create Vanitas and the events of BBS Xehanort was in Terra and forgot everything after splitting into a heartless and a nobody at this time Luxu summons other Union X members to the present Namely Skuld, Lauriam, Elrena, Luxord & Demyx whom they turn into nobodies... I think MoM's plan requires all of these chars but it also needs Strelitzia... 1 foreteller for 1 Dandelion. MoM Skuld Luxu Lauriam Aced Ventus Invi Elrena Gula Luxord/? Unicornus Demyx/? Ava Strelitzia. And Sora to bring them all together with Ventus and his Chirithy...

Could you imagine if KH4 or whatever is split into 3 playable segments (Like BBS) being Destiny island trio, sea salt trio and BBS trio. For other games, I could see them making BBS Volume 2 (wasnt there an old leak of this but it was cancelled or someshit), Dream Drop Distance 2.0 ft. Sora in Shibuya and riku in Vernum Rex. Ive also always thought a game split between Sora, Roxas and Ventus would be dope
The power of waking is pretty much a “do over” or “reset” button. It means that with the power you can purge the darkness from someone’s heart returning them whole or piece them together from nothing. When cherith says Sora has been to the world beyond before, but never (I think) purposely. It’s when we died all those times and came back to when before we just died. So Sora always having the power, but never understanding it makes sense. Now if Sora used that power to his fullest, and was conscious of using it. He could reset everything back and change history every time a companion died. At least that’s how I see it

You know that those magics have range and is target directed right? Stopza Max range can be seen in DDD when Mickey uses it, Sora was out side this range definitely and even if he was in range, Xehanort could have simply not targeted Sora while casting. He knows Riku is really strong, and Mickey was casting a fucking Ultima at him.

The problem with knowing the power completely is it might be something in the next game that has a greater impact. Given Sora's Power to Awaken Hearts is a growing power which may be more than just to "repair hearts". And I called it, puppets. I know you and I had that conversation.
I think the next side game will be about Ventus and Subject X - Ventus regaining those memories and finding out where (if its Skuld) she was, and how she met Lea and Isa, and confronting Ansem the Wise about it. Because if X is Skuld, she is already connected to a lot of people Ventus knows, including even Terra. And in X they seem to be pretty close, so Ventus will have a big emotional punch to work on in that game, and since he and Skuld are the only ones of the dandelions in X to actually have seen the MoM, Ven would be perfect to be one of the people to warn the heroes about him, specially if the Foretellers try to scare the group down.
Another bbs trio game yessss please I’m for it!! Another chance to play with terra would be heaven for me. Xehanort and ven back ground story will be so dope too.
Thanks for reading this! I had a idea of what the power of waking is but, it's always good to hear more. Why I think (always) we ended up in the before death scene in keyblade graveyard (here I go again) is time travel however, the statement from Nomura makes me feel that the power of waking has a grim reaper thing going on, or at least the opposite of taking lives. The power to bring people back from the dead,at the exchange of Sora's life. Giving Full Metal Alchemist vibes for equivalent exchange....I'm hoping that we get more info in the next game for sure. I have a feeling, it will be soon because for Riku to find him, I feel that he has to know more about why Sora is gone... Also, I have a gut feeling that, union xy is where we will see the meeting of ven and baldy. I hope not because Ventus needs a little more of a spotlight. And who knows, maybe he being the Keyblade wielder of old and having a connection with Sora could play a role in his rescue. This can make for a decent game where we will get insight about Ven's past, his abilities, ect... And Roxas scene...... I CRIED! most of the reunions were so emotional,!! Sounds like Nomura is hinting at Sora being something like a beacon. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 And since you said something about it this week.... happy early birthday to you!! Love your videos but I still don’t understand fully what the power of waking does other than return sleeping/lost hearts. I think Nomura’s explanation is pretty vague but I feel like he was trying to say it has the power to overwrite fate and or destiny (maybe) but shift reality as if it never happened is interesting. I feel he could go into more detail about it but he loves fucking with us 😩
To me, the way it was phrased sounded like you loaded the "savefile" of a heart back to when it was whole. But since the things the heart "experienced" also get reverted, possibly combined with how multiple hearts were reverted in the same place after experiencing the same event, it caused enough reverting that the "savefile" of the whole world was loaded instead. That certainly makes the danger of it easier to understand, since basically sora risks corrupting his personal "savefile", but it also means that most of the other stuff that Sora does to stick hearts back into people is fueled by Bonds/Power of Friendship than the actual Power of Waking.
So I know you probably answered this. But does the ultimania say like how powerful a certain character. Like how fast they are or like if they are universal level of power.

Ventus is from fairy tale times that's what Nomura meant by keyblade wielder of old that means Xemnes was not seeking ventus because the good feelings of terra but because Xemnes is probably still influenced by the memories or will of his past life as player in cross. Its also possible that he was without knowing maybe instinctively seeking his friends from his past life as player. Remember these Keyblade wielders of old were his buddy's man even ephamer showed up at the end but only sora got to see him. If subject x is skaal then that adds another motivation to her pursuit but why maybe without even understanding his past life he recruited the ones he might have counted on the most in that past life.
Recently replayed the first game and noticed something. When Kairi brings back Sora in Hollow Bastion after he becomes a Heartless, was that technically the first time the "Power of Waking" appeared in the series? They 100% didn't plan that far in advance, but a neat touch.
Power Of Waking is essentially a reality warping ability to reset what hearts were destroyed or erased using time control. Easy explanation it's a reality warping+time reversal ability.
They timetraveled just like xehanort, that's all there is to it. Only difference is that they went back to their actual bodies a, and not someone else's that they have influence.
I kinda equate how Roxas showed up in the Keyblade Graveyard to the same phenomenon that brought Sora and Riku back to the destiny Islands at the end of KH2, but that's just my own headcanon

I may sound super salty (honestly I kinda am, stuff like this makes me dislike KH plot a bit) but a Power, a tool or rule in a plot should be explained IN the PLOT aka IN the GAME. Not by the director. It just shows how vague an undeveloped this power is when the series director needs to explain just because the game he directed itself can't explain it. Not because it's super complicated but because it's like mentioned twice in the entire game.

That cleared things up. Sort of. It doesn’t make sense, but it’s just little clearer to me, I think. The power of waking is just the power to return lost hearts, that’s it. The game breaking events that transpired was just the characters exploiting loopholes to meet their own ends.. . Returning hearts tampers with destiny already. I think... Xehanort exploited the power of waking to invent time travel. Hence those bizarre rules. He focused on making multiple selves, so his heart could have multiple points to “return” to. He even exploited his own exploit, by “moving the pieces to their proper places”.. he didn’t directly change events that were destined to happen, but rather planted the seeds instead, since he actually did have the insight. Sora did the opposite and unknowingly used the power of waking to exploit the rules of his universe. By Going through the hearts of the worlds to chase down the lich and save his friends, he unintentionally, yet directly “ changed events that were destined to happen”. I. E. darkness prevailing and light expiring on that fated land. Xehanort exploited the power of waking to let his heart traverse time and space to supervise his plan through various manipulations. Sora exploited the power of waking to overwrite fate and send his friends hearts back to their bodies. So... Sora apparently vanished... dimmed.. faded? W/e without a trace as a result. All of that mumbo jumbo the characters were spouting is starting to make sense to me now, but I don’t like it. I can’t put the words down -~- and I could even be way off base but that’s what it sounds like to me...
Here us a pretty far-fetched idea which has little to no ground, but what if Young Xehanort and Young Eraqus had a nother friend, making a Scala Trio. Throughout the games, we have trios, it seems to be a sort of trend. Destiny Island Trio, Wayfinder Trio, Days Trio. All trios. So what if Scala ad Caelum is the same? And that 3rd person became the Nameless Star, and the namw she gave Sora was Xehanort which would be why he was surprised.
I still think bringing Roxas back to life kinda cheapens the idea that they became whole by rejoining, and Soral getting the final form from that event. Axel could've slowly been trying to make friends with Sora or Ventus; kinda to get the same friendship he had with Roxas by hanging with someone who is like him, or at least looks like him. Also, I feel like Terra shouldn't have been the guardian, he should've just been Young Xahanort ; the way dark Aqua could be purified, he would've been too. I guess its nice that Nobodies developed their own hearts, kinda. But it's like if Erequis came back to life at this point; his death wouldn't be significant, and it wouldn't serve much purpose story-wise

Considering all of kingdom hearts so far fallows sora for the most part we can conclude we have encountered the person before and don’t even know it. I believe the person to be from the organization. If those stars were hearts of those who lost their hearts and bodies but the heart was released but body remained in the realm of light then I think I know who. We went to the final world before taking on all of the organization members remaining. That star is waiting for her body and heart to recombine and become whole again. Most likely a blonde person who was consumed and manipulated by darkness.
We’re gonna get a brawler title as an interstice toward KH4. Watch, we’re gonna get the entire returned crew to throw down in multiplayer. The scrapped Xehanort game and its missing lore will probably be a secret or DLC segment of that brawler.
The one thing that always throws me off about the nameless star is the way she talks. The words "pines for another" always makes my head spin. Its most likely Streletzia but the way she talks about her brother is more romantic. I am the youngest sibling and I have an older brother but I never talk the way she does. And if the nameless star is Skuld then its Isa, and we don't know how much time they saw each other in her cell. And we don't know if Skuld is dead and who killed her if she was dead. And what makes it also confusing is that Lauriam and Isa both got norted. One of the nameless star's lines is "he's been changed beyond recognition." To me Lauriam is still the same as Marluxia attitude wise, its hard to tell since there are no voices. But for Isa, he was mature for his age and kind in BBS. But now he is a total a**hole and that is a huge difference. Another thing is that she says "If he were to regain his old self again, he would be distressed by my absence." This is also a good line for both of them. Lauriam forgot his past completely so it fits very well, but for Isa he has been a nobody for over a decade. He hasn't felt a feeling in so long. And I know that Nomura said that they are "characterS" but idk if he is trying to keep it a secret or what idk. Plus, we don't know what name she whisperd in Sora's ear. She could have said Marluxia, Lauriam, Isa or Saix. I hope Kingdom Hearts Re-Mind has some plot for Subject X and who ever the nameless star is.
I know this a bit out there but what if Xahanort wasn't Xahanort!!! What if Xahanort was Luxu, Luxu is Xahanort! Xahanort is just an anagram of Another with X added and the X comes from LuXu. Luxu definitely knows how to possess someone else and Xahanort certainly changed at some point from silver eyes to yellow & gain pointy ears...
At this point it feels like Disney is totally irrelevant to the plot which is really bad, they have no relevance to the plot, the story lines of some worlds is really bad and it seems the ultimania doesn't add anything to the the Disney characters and worlds, tbh at this point I rather have just an anime game with made up worlds

So I’m going to take a stab at this power of waking explanation and I honesty don’t know but here it goes.... It sounds to me like the power of waking or PoW.... has 3 powers.
The first being the ability to awaken sleeping worlds as evident by dream drop.
The second power is the ability to awaken hearts that are sleep as evident by Sora using it to awaken Ventus.
And the third power is the ability to traverse hearts of those who have died and revive them.
So I think it’s safe to say that no one can ever really die in the KH universe unless you destroy the heart and depending on how strong the person is...depends on whether or not the heart is destroyed. I think Sora being in final world shows us that he really did die but instead of his heart fading...it was clinging to life because of Kairi’s heart. That being said If the heart is not destroyed then the power of waking allows someone to reconnect that person back to their body by traversing their heart to find their soul/spirit. But it also sounds like using the power of waking to basically revive people comes at a cost (which tbh makes sense)...and if that’s the case...it looks like Sora really is in the UG of shibuya based on the secret movie then.
Correct the ability is basically reality warping and time manipulation.
The thing is that in KH one never really dies if the "death" caused by anything other than the soul leaving the body. I believe Ansem, Xehanort and another character has already stated that death is when the soul leave the body, if the person have "died" but this haven't happened then this person can be brought back to "life", can be restored, or will try to restore it's original state (nobodies for example).
The PoW don't really have 3 "powers", it involves awakening hearts, and like Ansem said, there are Hearts all around us, the only thing that changes is how the use of the power interacts with the heart you're trying to awake.
I believe you can say that you can use the PoW to meddle with time. Notice how after Sora revives the gang everything happens exactly the same but now, with the interference of Naminé, we have LW on our side, and how some characters seems to have awareness of the events before, and some not till the point none of them seems to remember of what happened before, besides Sora (questionable).
When they say "traverse" hearts I believe that is literally try to find that heart that was lost. You have maybe your memories, and your connections and the essence of the person that probably can be felt lost somewhere, maybe in the Last World, or even on the deepest abyss of the RoD like Sora was going deeper and deeper in DDD.
The thing that adds a "cost" for awakening that person's heart maybe due to how deep was the sleep. Was I clear? I like to imagine the RoS and this whole PoW thing like Inception's dreams. The deeper you are, the hardest it is to come back, or to even reach you, and this part of reaching I like to imagine like the consequences of time traveling in Harry Potter, in Pottermore it says that one cannot go into the past more than 5 hours without causing major damages to one's body or even to the time line itself, so maybe one cannot go as deep as it's needed to go to awaken some hearts without risking it's own life, it's own body to perish to the point the soul will leave the body causing this person to die.
And so we come to Shibuya. That can work like, if the person dies it can get a chance of ressurection by ending up there, but you would only end up there if your death fill some prerequisites.

Not sure how I feel about the given reason Xemnas was looking for Ventus. It makes sense, but I always had the notion that at least part of the reason was that some of Terra was still in Xemnas (it was his body after all) in addition to Xehanort, so Xemnas would have complex feelings about Ventus as primarily this kid he used for his own ends but the echo of him really being his old friend (as he calls Aqua's armor in one of the final mix cutscenes, that's how I always interpreted that).
Just in general I'd love the games to acknowledge that Xemnas while essentially being Xehanort's Nobody is literally Terra's body, I feel like no one ever brings this up.
I think i know what Nomura is trying to get people to understand about the Power Of Waking. Its basically what happenes when you die in the game only played out literally in a cutsene. The game starts as if nothing had ever happened.
I'm still wondering if Sora used the power of waking on himself during his fight with Xehanort, because we clearly see him do the game over animation when Donald and Goofy called out to him.

God help me, that’s some serious Undertale stuff if so. However, I don’t think that can be the case. Sora only obtained the Power after unlocking the Seven Sleeping Keyholes In DDD. But obviously game overs have been happening since the first game. Although.... knowing Nomura he could go super meta and say WE have the power and are using it on Sora.

To me it's pretty simple. "Waking" just means coming to the realization of the multiverse of worlds and the power is explained to be able to travel to them through someone else via the heart but they need to be connected to yours/know you.
It fits if you count the times mickey showing up to revive sora as sora remaking that event.
The star imo is Strelitzia and Subject X is Skuld. Here's my theory concerning how things happened.
Luxu got Xehanort into the position he needed him in, Luxu summoned Ventus to the present 1st whom Xehanort experimented on. After Xehanort split Ventus's heart into light & darkness to create Vanitas and the events of BBS Xehanort was in Terra and forgot everything after splitting into a heartless and a nobody at this time Luxu summons other Union X members to the present Namely Skuld, Lauriam, Elrena, Luxord & Demyx whom they turn into nobodies... I think MoM's plan requires all of these chars but it also needs Strelitzia... 1 foreteller for 1 Dandelion.

Could you imagine if KH4 or whatever is split into 3 playable segments (Like BBS) being Destiny island trio, sea salt trio and BBS trio. For other games, I could see them making BBS Volume 2 (wasnt there an old leak of this but it was cancelled or someshit), Dream Drop Distance 2.0 ft. Sora in Shibuya and riku in Vernum Rex. Ive also always thought a game split between Sora, Roxas and Ventus would be dope

The power of waking is pretty much a “do over” or “reset” button. It means that with the power you can purge the darkness from someone’s heart returning them whole or piece them together from nothing. When cherith says Sora has been to the world beyond before, but never (I think) purposely. It’s when we died all those times and came back to when before we just died. So Sora always having the power, but never understanding it makes sense. Now if Sora used that power to his fullest, and was conscious of using it. He could reset everything back and change history every time a companion died. At least that’s how I see it

You know that those magics have range and is target directed right? Stopza Max range can be seen in DDD when Mickey uses it, Sora was out side this range definitely and even if he was in range, Xehanort could have simply not targeted Sora while casting. He knows Riku is really strong, and Mickey was casting a fucking Ultima at him.

The problem with knowing the power completely is it might be something in the next game that has a greater impact. Given Sora's Power to Awaken Hearts is a growing power which may be more than just to "repair hearts". And I called it, puppets. I know you and I had that conversation.
I think the next side game will be about Ventus and Subject X - Ventus regaining those memories and finding out where (if its Skuld) she was, and how she met Lea and Isa, and confronting Ansem the Wise about it. Because if X is Skuld, she is already connected to a lot of people Ventus knows, including even Terra. And in X they seem to be pretty close, so Ventus will have a big emotional punch to work on in that game, and since he and Skuld are the only ones of the dandelions in X to actually have seen the MoM, Ven would be perfect to be one of the people to warn the heroes about him, specially if the Foretellers try to scare the group down.

Thanks for reading this! I had a idea of what the power of waking is but, it's always good to hear more. Why I think (always) we ended up in the before death scene in keyblade graveyard (here I go again) is time travel however, the statement from Nomura makes me feel that the power of waking has a grim reaper thing going on, or at least the opposite of taking lives. The power to bring people back from the dead,at the exchange of Sora's life. Giving Full Metal Alchemist vibes for equivalent exchange....I'm hoping that we get more info in the next game for sure. I have a feeling, it will be soon because for Riku to find him, I feel that he has to know more about why Sora is gone...
Also, I have a gut feeling that, union xy is where we will see the meeting of ven and baldy. I hope not because Ventus needs a little more of a spotlight. And who knows, maybe he being the Keyblade wielder of old and having a connection with Sora could play a role in his rescue. This can make for a decent game where we will get insight about Ven's past, his abilities, ect...
And Roxas scene...... I CRIED! most of the reunions were so emotional,!! Sounds like Nomura is hinting at Sora being something like a beacon. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Love your videos but I still don’t understand fully what the power of waking does other than return sleeping/lost hearts. I think Nomura’s explanation is pretty vague but I feel like he was trying to say it has the power to overwrite fate and or destiny (maybe) but shift reality as if it never happened is interesting. I feel he could go into more detail about it but he loves fucking with us 😩
To me, the way it was phrased sounded like you loaded the "savefile" of a heart back to when it was whole. But since the things the heart "experienced" also get reverted, possibly combined with how multiple hearts were reverted in the same place after experiencing the same event, it caused enough reverting that the "savefile" of the whole world was loaded instead.
That certainly makes the danger of it easier to understand, since basically sora risks corrupting his personal "savefile", but it also means that most of the other stuff that Sora does to stick hearts back into people is fueled by Bonds/Power of Friendship than the actual Power of Waking.
So I know you probably answered this. But does the ultimania say like how powerful a certain character. Like how fast they are or like if they are universal level of power.

Aqua’s armor was at Chamber of Repose (KH2), Ventus’ armor was broken. Terra’s armor is still with him but he didnt even fight once in KH3.

Ventus is from fairy tale times that's what Nomura meant by keyblade wielder of old that means Xemnes was not seeking ventus because the good feelings of terra but because Xemnes is probably still influenced by the memories or will of his past life as player in cross. Its also possible that he was without knowing maybe instinctively seeking his friends from his past life as player. Remember these Keyblade wielders of old were his buddy's man even ephamer showed up at the end but only sora got to see him. If subject x is skaal then that adds another motivation to her pursuit but why maybe without even understanding his past life he recruited the ones he might have counted on the most in that past life.
Recently replayed the first game and noticed something. When Kairi brings back Sora in Hollow Bastion after he becomes a Heartless, was that technically the first time the "Power of Waking" appeared in the series? They 100% didn't plan that far in advance, but a neat touch.

Power Of Waking is essentially a reality warping ability to reset what hearts were destroyed or erased using time control. Easy explanation it's a reality warping+time reversal ability.
They timetraveled just like xehanort, that's all there is to it. Only difference is that they went back to their actual bodies a, and not someone else's that they have influence.
I kinda equate how Roxas showed up in the Keyblade Graveyard to the same phenomenon that brought Sora and Riku back to the destiny Islands at the end of KH2, but that's just my own headcanon

I may sound super salty (honestly I kinda am, stuff like this makes me dislike KH plot a bit) but a Power, a tool or rule in a plot should be explained IN the PLOT aka IN the GAME. Not by the director. It just shows how vague an undeveloped this power is when the series director needs to explain just because the game he directed itself can't explain it. Not because it's super complicated but because it's like mentioned twice in the entire game.

The power of waking is just the power to return lost hearts, that’s it. The game breaking events that transpired was just the characters exploiting loopholes to meet their own ends.. .
Returning hearts tampers with destiny already. I think...
Xehanort exploited the power of waking to invent time travel. Hence those bizarre rules. He focused on making multiple selves, so his heart could have multiple points to “return” to. He even exploited his own exploit, by “moving the pieces to their proper places”.. he didn’t directly change events that were destined to happen, but rather planted the seeds instead, since he actually did have the insight.
Sora did the opposite and unknowingly used the power of waking to exploit the rules of his universe. By Going through the hearts of the worlds to chase down the lich and save his friends, he unintentionally, yet directly “ changed events that were destined to happen”. I. E. darkness prevailing and light expiring on that fated land.
Xehanort exploited the power of waking to let his heart traverse time and space to supervise his plan through various manipulations.
Sora exploited the power of waking to overwrite fate and send his friends hearts back to their bodies.
So... Sora apparently vanished... dimmed.. faded? W/e without a trace as a result.
All of that mumbo jumbo the characters were spouting is starting to make sense to me now, but I don’t like it. I can’t put the words down -~- and I could even be way off base but that’s what it sounds like to me...

Here us a pretty far-fetched idea which has little to no ground, but what if Young Xehanort and Young Eraqus had a nother friend, making a Scala Trio.
Throughout the games, we have trios, it seems to be a sort of trend. Destiny Island Trio, Wayfinder Trio, Days Trio. All trios. So what if Scala ad Caelum is the same? And that 3rd person became the Nameless Star, and the namw she gave Sora was Xehanort which would be why he was surprised.

I still think bringing Roxas back to life kinda cheapens the idea that they became whole by rejoining, and Soral getting the final form from that event.
Axel could've slowly been trying to make friends with Sora or Ventus; kinda to get the same friendship he had with Roxas by hanging with someone who is like him, or at least looks like him. Also, I feel like Terra shouldn't have been the guardian, he should've just been Young Xahanort ; the way dark Aqua could be purified, he would've been too.
I guess its nice that Nobodies developed their own hearts, kinda. But it's like if Erequis came back to life at this point; his death wouldn't be significant, and it wouldn't serve much purpose story-wise
If sora knows their name it is possible that we know the name as well. I don’t believe it’s from union x. Considering all of kingdom hearts so far fallows sora for the most part we can conclude we have encountered the person before and don’t even know it. I believe the person to be from the organization. If those stars were hearts of those who lost their hearts and bodies but the heart was released but body remained in the realm of light then I think I know who. We went to the final world before taking on all of the organization members remaining. That star is waiting for her body and heart to recombine and become whole again. Most likely a blonde person who was consumed and manipulated by darkness.
We’re gonna get a brawler title as an interstice toward KH4. Watch, we’re gonna get the entire returned crew to throw down in multiplayer. The scrapped Xehanort game and its missing lore will probably be a secret or DLC segment of that brawler.

For some reason I want to say the nameless star us waiting on isa
The one thing that always throws me off about the nameless star is the way she talks. The words "pines for another" always makes my head spin. Its most likely Streletzia but the way she talks about her brother is more romantic. I am the youngest sibling and I have an older brother but I never talk the way she does. And if the nameless star is Skuld then its Isa, and we don't know how much time they saw each other in her cell. And we don't know if Skuld is dead and who killed her if she was dead.
And what makes it also confusing is that Lauriam and Isa both got norted. One of the nameless star's lines is "he's been changed beyond recognition." To me Lauriam is still the same as Marluxia attitude wise, its hard to tell since there are no voices. But for Isa, he was mature for his age and kind in BBS. At this point it feels like Disney is totally irrelevant to the plot which is really bad, they have no relevance to the plot, the story lines of some worlds is really bad and it seems the ultimania doesn't add anything to the the Disney characters and worlds, tbh at this point I rather have just an anime game with made up worlds
