  • This Jonsereds 520SP Chainsaw belongs to a friend of mine and he hasn't been able to get it to start for a couple of years. In this video I check it out to make sure that it has spark , and with fuel, it will run. Then I tear down the carburetor and clean it out.

    I'm about three late. but many years ago my brother gave me a 535 that he bought second hand, it sat in my shed for many years, but recently i got it out, and it fired right up, it ran well, just needed to fix the air cleaner a bit, and i was cutting wood , thanks from Australia.

      There is a definite fan club for them. The guy who owns the one I worked on loves it.

    I consider Jonsered 450 which has 3 Horsepower and is this a quality chainsaw like Husqvarna and I get spare parts to it? Great to see how good you are on finding the trouble on the Jonsered 520 SP, I am learning from it. I like to have a 18'' sword on the Jonsered 450. Your comments on this?

      I am probably not a great source of information on chainsaws in general. This is actually the first one I have worked on. Some parts are easy to get, some are not. Fuel lines, fuel filter, etc., you can get anywhere. The carb kit was pretty easy to get online. Some other parts are hard to find (the metal pieces for the oil line). You might be able to find used parts on ebay or other sites, but it might be hit or miss.

      @@TheFixitShed I see. Well it is Swedish and they are real good in making chain saws and has the biggest woods in Scandinavia at least

      @@GeirGJohnsendto yes, I have heard a lot of people say good things about them. However, as you saw in the video, the fact that I had to completely disassemble the engine to replace the dried out rubber oil line, seems like a poor design choice to me.

      @@TheFixitShed Yes, I understand but what other type of parts would you prefer as design on the oil line?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How about if there is an external fitting on the engine for the oil line so that I don't have to split the cylinder, and have that fitting accessible so I don't have to remove the engine from the case. In this video DonnyBoy73 is able to replace almost the entire oiling system, including the pump, without removing/disassembling the engine on the STIHL chainsaw. th-cam.com/video/Gj9mmtyROu0/w-d-xo.html

    Just rebuilt a 2040 turbo carb and got a saw I was given working again. It had no spark when I got it either. But it's running way to fast on throttle and even idle the chain spins. Both screws are only like 1/2 turn out. And idle screw on the throttle/air adjust is nearly falling out. How can I lower the rpm of the thing?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say. Did you check to make sure the throttle linkage is correct and not bound up somewhere?

    What does the long black hose that doesnt go to the carb do? Mine broke but it looks like it just stuffs into the gas chamber? Dont think its the gas line though it doesnt go to the carburator

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a vent. so you don't bouild up a negative pressure in the gas tank.

      @@TheFixitShed thanks! Do you know how it is sealed? If I stuff it back in the little hole it isnt sealed and is leaky is there something I need to buy??

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@inductor1.77 I am working from memory from when I worked on this 2 years ago, but there is a small filter that goes in the end of the hose. I don't think you can buy them anymore. What i remember is that people were using a screw in the end of the hose. don't screw it all the way in so that the head seals the vent, just enough so that the air can pass through the threads. Search on "Jonsereds 520sp parts diagram" you can see some pictures of the parts there.

      Thanks for your advice, I ended up finding the seal inside the gas tank. Your video helped a lot, was able to rebuild the carb by myself and now the jonserd is running again :)
