It would've been nice if you'd dealt with the issue of 7-Zip file compatibility with other ZIP utilities. In the old days before people wanted lotsa features (like encryption) you could zip files with pretty much any utility and anyone with any other zip utility could open it. I'm wondering if plain vanilla 7-zipped files can be opened, for example, with the built-in Windows "Extract" utility. Can I create ordinary ".zip" files with 7-Zip? If so, what features are supported? How do I specify this? If I (for example) encrypt a file using 7-Zip, what other tools might possibly be able to open it. If I create a ".7z" file, what other tools can open that? And so on. Back when, the universality of "zip" files was one of their big selling points. But as we now require more of our zip files, things are more complex. I don't see how anyone could seriously consider a ZIP utility without some discussion of these issues. Thanks.

You have got to be kidding, I am 67 and compressing and uncompressing files has always been a pain, how much easier can it get, with 7 zip having the option right there in every file you have on your PC to unzip or zip just by right clicking on the file.

My 7zip wouldn't open rar files. However I was using a old version of 7zip. I uninstalled my version and installed the newest version and now I can unzip rar files. So anyone that is having problems openin rar with 7zip, make sure you are using the current version.

if you havent installed 7zip and some gives you a 7zip file...you can't open it with windows

If your computer has automatically installed winzip and the ad keeps popping up instead of doing what yours does?
A big flaw in 7z is there's no way to add a comment to an archive. unzip/zip is not as good as 7z compression wise but it does have a comment ability. I used to use comments a lot with zip files because I'd pack up test result files into a zip file and then put the parameters of the test into the zip archive as a comment. It would be nice if 7z had the same ability. By putting the test details in the zip comment it made it impossible to lose that information when the zip file was loaded into JIRA as an artifact.

Hi. Do you have a way to solve the "The system can not find the specified path" error when you Drag and Drop a file from 7ZIP manager to a folder? The program is great, but not been able to use this basic function is quite annoying.

You forgot one important step. How to add separate single archives for an entire selection or folder at-least. Winrar has it for selection and so does pea-zip. Unfortunately I cant even get entire folder to work for 7z thinking about going back to winrar for this....
Won't open the folder, keeps giving me errors. Keeps saying the file is invalid.

Well none of the zip apps work for my PC i tried like 5 apps even 7zip, trying to download mods and CC for my Sims 4 game it extracts the files but the mods and stuff dont show up in my game which means it didnt extract correctly and I dont know what to do now?🧐

It should be easy to use. But it already takes me half an hour to find out which of the 4 or 5 executables to use. The crappy manual is only a piece of PR material, and is totally worthless. I hope this video will be better. 🙏

How come when I extracted a few of the most corrupt files from 7-zip, they showed memory as 0 KB? Is there a fix? I know that Win-zip was able to extract and repair them with their original KB, but 7-zip wasn't able to do this task. Win-Rar didn't solve much.
The tutorial makes this look easy. Except when i go to the file im trying to work with i cannot choose 7zip. When i go to 7zip i cannot find the file i need to uncompress? I have restarted my computer.

For some reason, it didn't work for me. I followed all the steps and everything, but alas still just a pop-up of a Winzip add saying "Your free trial has expired". Did I do something wrong?

I have occasionally seen clipboard errors as a result of it (eg unable to copy and paste from an archive) but uninstalling 7zip or updating it would fix it (or even updating win10)

Will there be a step by every little step tutorial for those of us not tech savvy....files (how do I do that for OMSi 2 bus mod/ extract what how and where etc ) This is all only frustratingly confusing to me... Geek Squad Staples and Microsoft tech supports were just as clueless. At 52 and with only basic PC skills this makes absolutely no sense to me.
