My Dad used to go in to NYC with his Dad in the 1930's to Willouby-Peerless-Select Film Library and rent films to watch at home with the family. A big deal as this was before TV. In my era (1960's) growing up, although we had tv, my Dad recreated this pastime by taking me to a film library in Roselle Park, NJ where we rented comedy shorts and also features. Great times recalling those special family times. A defective16mm sound projector was restored to operation by myself so of course we needed films to test it out on.

In this digital era, its a real reel fun analog experience to share with others. I especially like showing kids movies this way. They take moving images for granted when HD video is available on every device. A projector and a reel of film gets them see the magic again as well as provide some history. I still remember how amazing it was when my grandma would pull out her 8mm projector and put Abbott and Costello on the wall. Long live film.

No wonder everyone wants to be an American. I don’t think these treasures of horror existed in this island off the mainland of Europe. Mama mia!
