A couple of notes. 16mm film was developed in 1923 as an amateur film format at a lower cost. It was double perforated because it was similar to 35mm film and early projectors had claws on both sides to move the film. In 1930, Optical sound was added on one side of the film and the sprocket holes were removed. 16mm has ALWAYS been on Safety Film because of the instability of Nitrate film. The only Nitrate film you will commonly find is 35mm. Also 8mm camera film was originally sold on 16mm wide 25' reels but the number of sprocket holes on both sides is doubled so that correlation is incorrect.

Yes, regarding the "double sprocket holes" comment at 8:08 -- the fact that there are sprocket holes on both sides only indicates that this is a silent film (without an optical or magnetic audio track down one side).

I just bought my first 16mm film projector, so it was neat to watch this. I picked up a few helpful hints from your video.

Helpful little training clip and reasonably clearly shot which always helps! Next tip: Get a pair of Film Rewinders to save wear and tear on both film and projector.

RT-1 is a great little projector. I've restored 2 of them now.

Very cool video guys. How do you store your films ? Special room with temperature control ?

in your video you mention the cinemascope lense. Do you know where I could purchase that at a reasonable price and what is the part #? I have recently acquired 2)- NT-0's when my office was moving and cleaning out the attic. One is identical to the unit in your video and the other looks to be a few years newer and is black. How do you figure out the date of manufacture? I discovered the motor drive belt was broken on the black one and ordered a replacement on ebay. I have not inspected or tried the green one yet. I can't wait to use them.

What sort of audio amplifier does this projector have? Is it valve or solid state? Does anyone have a circuit diagram?

It sounds like British actor Dennis Price narrating the drivers ed film.

Hello , I was wondering if there is still sound with our connecting the speakers (missing cord) ?

What did you do at 5:20 to improve the sound? I just got a RT2 and it suffers from shuddery sound too. I can't imagine that's the way it's supposed to sound 😁

Hi,Thanks for this. I have an Eiki RM-3 (recently acquired) and I can thread the film exactly as you have done. However the pickup spool doesn't turn and the whole thing ends up on the floor. Any ideas? The projector itself look like it's in remarkably good condition and seem to work well apart from the pickup spool not turning. Thanks in advance for a response.

Heyo, undo the screws on the pickup spool arm. The rubber bands used to make stuff go around inside are bad and sometimes break. You can also use CRC (WD40) spray on the spool to help the turn if it's sticking.

Hi there remove the plate that covers the rear take up arm
In most cases the belt is possibly broken
If not check the clutch on the spool carrier
And check it is not seized
