      35 years I owned my own shoe repair shop I'm now 63 I put the Artic sole on a pair of ankle high lace boots that I made myself because I knew that I was going to be around ice in my retirement years.
      Anyway I got my CDL and decided to drive semi truck for a bit just to see the country since I was couped up in the shoe shop all those years. I was amazed how well the "artic sole" worked when I was in icey places like truck stops it really does work well on ice just give it about 3 seconds to acclimate to ice once the chemical reaction quickly adjust to the ice you can literally walk on ice as if walking on a dry sidewalk. Truck stops are very dangerous icey places so I would highly recommend this sole to anyone that wants to walk on ice just remember to give it a few seconds to acclimate don't just go from a warm floor instantly onto ice without giving at least 3 seconds to adjust. Hope this is what your looking for.

    Great content. I would suggest grabbing filming techniques from Brian the bootmaker to grow this channel. I appreciate the details of the products you use and services you offer, as well as explaining your work process. I'll be sending work your way, good cobblers are hard to find.

      @@CobblersPlus Invest in equipment for sure, you got something here. I was watching your vids with my lady and my mom. Mom said..."what a nice young man, why doesn't he show his face...he should be proud of his work". I think she has a point. Brian the bootmaker is no fashion model. He's compelling to watch cause you can see he's a regular guy that enjoys what he does. You don't have to be Mr Hollywood. You're good at what you do, just be yourself and people will gravitate to you. Looking forward to more vids...Cheers!

    2:00 the golf use is genius… same with fishing. It looks just like golf shoe pegs just smaller and more of ‘em’

    Love the Vibram Arctic Grip soles -- From Eagle River Alaska (30 year resident).
    Not sure on longevity yet, but still good after 4 years of winter-months-only use.
    I'd describe it as losing traction on ice later than other soles, and regaining grip quicker.
    I'd compare it to using non-studded winter tires - Blizzaks or X-Ice, for example.
    For maximum ice grip - fresh studs - for boots or tires.
    In shoes, "Icebugs" are an example.
    (I don't have any, but I know people who use them and like them, and I have inspected them.)
    The downside there is that they are outside-only shoes/boots, i.e., remove when going inside. (Why I don't use.)
    It would be like walking inside with old-school metal-spiked golf shoes.
    Another option for ice is the elastic spikes or chains that stretch/pull over your existing winter shoes/boots, which are also something to remove when going inside. (I keep a set in the vehicle, for extreme wet ice situations.)

    Vibram do a very poor job of advertising their soles, and providing information on the range. In the UK they are virtually impossible to buy for the consumer. Thanks for the info.

      The Arctic could fit a western style boot but there is the Vibram 430 and 700 that work best with the western boots because those can be stitched. I did a Sole Talk Sunday video on those you can check out

    My old trekking boots had Vibram Teton soles..excellent for hiking in the mountains and for wearing in the harshest Canadian winter. The rubber is super hard and seems indestructible so won’t break apart on rough terrain, but slippery on wet rocks. Works fine on ice on level ground though from my experience.

    Would the Arctic sole be suitable for a redwing moc toe?

    • @CobblersPlus

      It would definitely work great on redwings.

    • @oldguy8078
      @oldguy8078 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a vibram sole for my Redwings, the cobbler said it was too narrow. My boots were UK10, i tried vibram sole up to size UK12 and still too narrow to fit. Here I couldn't get bigger than UK12.

    What would you recommend for a hiking on wet rocks and punk woods in the stream but not much of mud? I thought the Arctic grip might do well because I'm keep hearing that they are like sand paper but now I'm not sure after watching this video hearing that it's very thin sole and the bit might fall off if flexed too much..

    Can you do one about dress shoes

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your talking about soles that go good on dress shoes these can fit some dress shoes and there are a few videos already made with soles that work best with dress shoes such as Dainite, Vibram Eton and the Vibram 430 sole.

    Great review! i've been watching your channel because i want to put a new sole on my red wing 875s for the winter. Does the Teton or Arctic Grip work better on the red wings? I'll likely be wearing them on light outdoor trails and in snow, are they both better options than the Olympia? Thanks a lot for the great work!

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it’s wear for outdoor and some snow I would go for Olympia or the Teton. The Arctic grip are more for icy conditions so if you tend to hit a lot off ice than it’s great for that but if you hit 10% or less on ice I’d stick to the other soles

    Can you stich through the Freestones or do those need to be glued only? Also, do you think the freestones might make a good low-profile sole for hiking? Looking at having them attached to a pair of boots that I want to still have a relatively slim look but that I want to still have a lot of grip on trails.

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically yes it can be stitched but it’s a softer rudder so I wouldn’t recommend it to much. If you decide you want to stitch it there would need to be a midsole added for sure
