Had 98 peg for 10 years. Was my commuter work horse. weekend greenlaner and long distance tourer. did some 80000 miles on the old girl. brilliant bike! let me down a few times. sprag clutch head gasket water pump but all easy to fix. I remember Sprag clutch was half the price from bmw?
I was riding in Croatia last week, spotted one of these and really liked the look of it. Low seat hight and high engine hight on a 650 that can do great off road, love it...I also saw too many big BMW's parked up their riders too afraid to tackle a knarly down hill track and they walk it instead! Madness
How are these bikes in terms of maintenance? Manageable if one has their own space to work on them or are they a pain in the ass to work on? im new to motorcycles but im a bit familiar with BMW cars being quite the hassle to work on yourself.
I've had mine (identical to this one in the video) for over a year now. Maintenance is no different really than other bikes etc. I've owned a KLR650 and will say this bike surpasses it in so many ways.
KLR is a great Dual Sport Adventure bike, I have a 2006 model. I also have a 2006 BMW F650GS. The Beamer is better engineered (suspension and handling, fuel mileage, low and mid range torque, more horse power, higher road speed). I just purchased a new clutch lever for the GS, It came with the perch for $134.00 A lever for the KLR cost $17.00 without the perch. I really need only one perch. I love both of the bikes!
I have a '94 BMW F 650 Funduro, essentially the same as the Aprilia, just some minor modifications (different plastics, clocks, different head on the engine etc.). And I have to say it's a brilliant, brilliant bike for the money. It's about the same weight as a modern KLR (wet weight BMW 191kg, KLR 194kg, but then again the KLR tank is 4L larger). However, even the 94 BMW has 4 hp more power and 10nm more torque (over 20% more, that) than the 2015 KLR 650, and that power comes in 500rpm lower. The Pegaso has even more power, +2hp and +3nm on the BMW. This is because it has a 5-valve single spark head, where the beamer has 4 valve twin spark (for emissions probably) The ubiquity of spares and mods might be something that the KLR could have in its locker, when considering traveling the world, as they have been very popular. Also, the KLR has a 21" front wheel and 17" rear, which should give a larger variety of off road tyres. The BMW/Aprilia has a 19" front. Then again, there are more street oriented rubber available for the 19" than 21". I've been able to find fully street and fully dirt tires for the 19". The beamer has blown me away. It was absolutely dirt cheap even in good nick because of what you pointed out: The damn styling. It's the ugly duckling of the street bike world, and the wussy duckling of the dirt bike world. But man is it absolutely brilliant to pilot around a twisty road. Low COG, wide bars, short reach to the bars, and that 190kg weight, and it just flips from side to side SO easily. That engine is a damn warrior, too. It's less than 50 hp, yet I ride it two-up all the time, even a couple of times on tour. It carries two people + luggage and camping gear, still cruises nicely at 75 mph and tears up the twisties. How does a 50hp bike do that? I used to have a 125hp bike for that stuff. Anyway, if there's anyone wondering about their choice in cheap-o adventure bikes (or hell, any role - these things will commute, tour, scratch...), Aprilia and BMW have got a good offering in the Pegaso / F 650. For adventuring, they might even be better than the bigger BMWs, with easily repairable chain drive instead of shaft, and just plain being lighter.
P.s. if you tear away the ugly styling from the Pegaso / F650, there's some nice stuff going on under there. For example, the frame also functions as the oil reservoir, and it has a dry sump vs the wet sump on the kawi for example.
Aleksi Joensuu Man the Pegaso might have been mine if ***** didn't buy it from MrDuhfactor first... I absolutely love that bike! But sentimentally, it's great to have my old beater KLR back and better than ever thanks to Mr. D's mods :D
I just love my aprilia pegaso 650 ga .1992 mod and runs as new . it have got only 30k miles on the clocks thoug, got it this year, i have had honda xr 400,kawasaki kl 250, suzuki ts 250x and yamaha xt 250 and xt 350 ,all great bikes .....but.... the aprilia pegaso 650 is a class for it selves, much better bike than the japanese ones, thats the truth,,,, for you that dont belive should try driving one, both on road and in the dirt, the bike is great and spare parts are so easy to find ,,,, ,cause : 1992-2005 is the same engine( rotax652) as bmw f650 /f650gs,and bomadier ds650, all engine parts are the same, chain /sprockets,all oil /water seals. nearly identical as bmw f650 funduro (in fact the bmw funduro was built for bmw at the aprilia factory the first couple of years.) and even back suspention and eletrical parts is same as bmw. and from 2006 and up to 2012 its the same engine as yamaha xt660 (the piaggo produced 660)
I since fell out of love with this bike, your video and many other sources claim this bike can do 60/65mpg. In real life they do 35mpg 45 absolute tops according to fuelly and my experience. now I'm on a tdm900 i don't look back.
How wonderful, I am looking at this 10 years old presentation to understand more about the engine of the new bike I just paid for that is BSA Goldstar 650 which carries this very engine with modifications to comply with the regulations of the day. Thanks much eveRide. You rock.!!!
Same with bmw f650gs single spark needs six gears with the gear set being lower and six gear same spacing to lower rpms at 75 or 80 mph dual spark plugs a more comfortable seat high output alternator and lights
After being out of the saddle since 1994 I decided to re-enter the biking scene by getting myself a 70s Vespa in April 2014. Although I briefly rode an XR500 in '94, my bike before that was an '82 GL1100 Gold Wing Interstate. I must admit, my first weeks in the traffic on the Vespa were like I'd never ridden a bike at all ... I was petrified to venture into the traffic. Anyway, I've got my confidence back, am selling the Vespa and moving up to a 2000 Pegaso 650. Your review confirmed that this is a good bike... even though most of my friends say, "can't you do better than an Aprilia!". I'm keen to get into off-road riding and this will be my foot in the door ... my wife can take "Peggy" over once I upgrade to something bigger. I'm looking forward to checking it out in the next few days.
Seems like a really cool option... You've definitely out it on my radar. Now does anyone make an adventure bike that you can out some miles on that my 5"2 girlfriend can get a leg over? Were stuck on the xt250 for her, just cause she's feels comfortable in the saddle but that thing ain't gonna hack it on the highway
Man I would say the TW200 is another option, but yeah... that's not going to do much good on the freeway either. Most bikes have lowering kits that you can get. They hurt the clearance but help shorter riders for sure! Maybe see how she feels on a DR650, those are awesome bikes and have a manageable seat height that can get a little lower than stock. They can cruise on the highway all day!
I've had my 200 650 cube a couple years. it runs strong and gets bout 55mpg, but i seem to have this pesky coolent issue.. got any ideas? would love to see a vid on the subject. i sub cause it's good to see another pagaso owner.. they r far and few. i like the uniqueness and style,,,,
the oil/water seals on the water pump is a weak link should be changed every 15-20.000km or 10-12.000miles but they are cheap ,2 iol seals mounted back to bacck ruond the waterpump shaft, just take of the pump cover, and use a screwdriver to flip them out ,change them and good to go,take abuot 30-45 min to do ordinary oil seal from any producer with dimensions : 26-10-7mm do fit and can be used
Dual carbs. Good luck tunning those. And also good luck finding one for sale. And good luck finding a mechanic that will be willing to work on an aprilla that's that old.
I'll take a KLR any day. Aprilias are expensive and far harder to get parts for than a Kawasaki. I loved my Aprilia SXV550 but it was high maintenance and parts were expensive and not as easy to get so the bike would be down for longer while I waited for parts to show up
same problem as klr when you turn the handlebars the headlights don't turn and is it the same off-roading and as the KLR I mean not as good as your DRZ or should I say not as capable
Ride a street bike, but always been fascinated with your off road adventures. Might not get toooo into it, but been looking at a drz or wrr when I free up some money (college sucking it all up)
Man when you do get into the dirt, I think it'll be hard to go back :) That's how it's been for me, anyway. There is just sooo much to do off the road!
A good bike, to be sure. But I think it's important to note that for me, and others like me of which I think there are plenty, the KLR fits a specific set of purposes. Those being; 1. Cheap, 2. Durable, 3. Ubiquitous, 4. Jack of everything. So I took my 98 KLR (which is exactly the same as the other billion KLRs sold during the Gen 1 period) , did a little carb work, suspension work (500lb rear spring, Racetech emulators/springs in forks), 14 tooth sprocket (but I carry the 15 tooth if I am gonna run on highways a long ways), Seat Concepts seat, full knobbies, home made luggage rack and 20 mm ammo can bags, and it's a great bike. Utterly bulletproof and is the exact same bike from 87 to 2007, so parts are every friggin where. It starts every single time, without fail. And if the battery is totally flat, since it's a Gen 1 will push start. So I'm not saying I dislike other bikes, but this bike is pretty perfect for me. When I crash, and I do, I really don't care about dents, scratches, etc., and if I had a prettier bike I would. And I don't think I have more than $3000 in the bike since I got it. And that's counting tires, gas, and add on stuff. So the Pegaso/F650 are cool bikes, just not sure they fit my need. And for power, I have the C14. Funny thing though, the KLR is more fun with 1/3 the power than the C14 any day of the week.
my 2011 klr 650 has the 6.1 gal tank and is supposed to get 250 miles but am only getting an average of 140 miles to the tank but ive been poppin wheelies a lot so would poppin wheelies cause a dramatic loss of fuel, or is there something very serious wrong with it?
Loving the adventure bikes lately. Fell in love with the new VStrom 1000's. Test rode one a few weeks ago. Speed, handling and it has some dirt capabilities. Not like a drz or klr but high ground clearance and good dirt tires. Also..... I don't know how you do it but your camera shot is so smooth. Almost like your using a stabilizer ...
Oh man the Vstroms are sweet bikes! I was sold on a Vstrom but my love for more gnarly-ish dirt won me over in the long run. As for the smoothness, that's the power of the Sony as100v in steady-shot mode. IMHO it's the best action camera on the market.. the thing is amazing! goo.gl/lCqv5i
you my friend need to buy a dr650 (and a new seat lol for it) feels lighter and more nimble and also has plenty of power, have you ridden one before???
Are you running standard 16/47 sprockets? My one's previous owner fitted a 45 rear which makes it rather unpleasant at low speeds (constant shifting required).
When I started searching for an old dual purpose bike, the Aprilia was one of the options, but it was expensive considering my bidget (around 1500 USD). So, I bought a Yamaha XT600E, a very reliable but no very powerful bike. And boy we had lots of fun.
Yep, you should have a friend with you when you get that far out. So far out that its not a trail....you just might need some survival skills. Be safe!! Great video!!
What bike is easier to find parts for in say...Mongolia or Mexico. That would be a big concern of mine for an adventure bike. Plan for the worst, hope for the best!!! Looking forward to your next video.
So right! Here's the link to the next one-- your point is why I'm trying hard to go with the once and future king :) th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
@@tolga1cool its the same engine the 660ccm as yamaha from 2006 and up , before that from 1992-2005 its the same rotax engine with same parts as bmw f650 /f650 gs and bomardier ds650 ,so parts are not diffcult to find for any year mod of pegaso
@@jimrunereiten7320 Yep Exactly! I own a 2007 pegaso trail and that one has 1:1 the Yamaha powerplant. Wasn't sure about the earlier models hence why "as far as I know"
These 650 Rotax lumped Pegs are fantastic bikes, better than the Yamaha engines ones that came later. Mine is a 99 carby and has 96k miles on it, still rides sweet as.
That's got to be the funniest comment, or sarcastic, that Broketax mill is notorious for failed starter sprags, starter gears, swing arm bearings, r/r, and head gaskets....I like Peggys, I've owned two, but lets not complete twaddle.
+longtrangm1a I'll have to see if my buddy Dr. Dualsport will let me cruise around on his GS 650 a little more. When I rode it the first time it seemed a little anemic, but I was only on it for about 10 minutes.
I would absolutely love to get your perspective on it. I love the way you explain the difference between one bike and another. Let's just say I'd be stoked to watch that video. keep riding and video taping and stay safe.
l do ride a 2005 "KLR~ADV".She is a nice ride and does what l need her to do. For three years,l sold BMW motorbike's,and some "Honda" and "Aprilia". I very got the chance to ride or sale a Pegaso.Hard to find them out in the real world. Looked on Ebay and Cycletrader, they are to far away.I'm thinking of going back to BMW and pick up a 2005-06 R1200GS for power and better 50/50 ride. What do you think of the Aprilia for 50/50 ride? Cheers;)
I really liked it for 50-50 riding. It was quite nice on the freeway, but I only have experience on a KLR, DRZ 400, and DR 650. I could say comfortably that it was better than those on the road.
This bike seems to be the Husqvarna TR650 of yesteryear which looks to be based off the same platform. Perhaps it is the perfect adventure bike, does everything well without being outstanding at any one thing. I'm sure plenty of BMW parts would get you out of trouble in far away places. You can't complain with the fuel consumption either.
How is the Aprilia off road compared to your DRZ? Is it as capable? Why did you want a different bike for distance riding instead of the DRZ? I've put lots of road miles and long stints on my DRZ with very few complaints and zero problems. Do you still have the black widow?
CO Owsl Yes I still have and love the Black Widow, but it's in Northern Utah right now with MrDuhfactor. It is a fantastic dual sport bike, my ultimate machine! Great on the dirt and does fine on the road... but as an E model it's a little more wear and tear than I'd like to put on it for long rides. It could do the longer rides without a problem, but it's got a bit shorter gearing and is modded so the fuel mileage is a bit lower. On the highway the widow gets about 30mpg, so over 3500 miles that would add up in the fuel cost department. In the long run it ended up being a decision about economy and comfort. As for off roading, the Aprilia is very good. In fact, the power it produces and the weight low to the ground make hill-climbing slightly easier than the DRZ. However, the DRZ dominates in pretty much all other aspects until the bikes get on the road, then the Aprilia is far better.
eveRide ADV Wow 30 mpg is surprising to me, I average between 55-60 on my S model. If you make your way out to Glenwood Springs, CO area let me know I ride a lot of 150-200 mile DS day rides that are a great time over the many passes in my neck of the woods! Glad you still have the Black Widow!
Love this review. I'm open to all things. However, I would like to see half throttle put that bike through the same paces as his klr went through. Looking forward to part two. Ps, I love my green klr
Roywuzhere My friend ***** actually ended up buying this very bike from MrDuhfactor. Perhaps I'll get to put it through the gnarly stuff one of these days... I actually have some footage of doing some extremely gnarly stuff with it (whoops, steep climbs, ledges, sand, riverbeds, rocks) here: o#o Frickin Romaniac Whiskey! KLR650, WR450, CRF230, & Pegaso 650 Desert Ride!
I come from Germany I have the same bike It's interesting to see what's possible with this bike. I never test it in off-road It's interesting you have the older version with the carburettor Engine . My bike have injection. I can see it on the control lights You have a green light for the low light. On this place I have the check light for the injection
Jack Middleton I think the KLR would have handled it, but the suspension can be a little testy at times. This trail is definitely not the most crazy thing a KLR could do... the DR 650, the KLR, and this Pegaso are really quite capable!
I have a BMW Funduro. Essentialy the same model, the differences are that the BMW has 4 valves and different plastics. It's carburetted and consumes around 4,5 litres/100km
You can buy a 2013/2014 KLR 650 for $6000.00 out the door at most dealers right now!!. That alone makes it the best adventure bike in the world.. I have a KTM and love it!!...but if I were to go on a really long trip and that trip took me to places that were very remote...it would be a KLR every time....Maybe a DR650 fitted with the right stuff.. Not the fastest not the best off road...but just good enough at everything...and very easy to work on and repair...how can you beat that? ....answer ....You can't!!...
Nice review and beautiful scenery. Do you think the mods are the the reason it has instant power and no chug factor? Sometimes the mods make the bike. I am not a bike snob and will buy any brand and love it. Thanks for sharing this.
The only engine-ish mods were a little airbox work and a new exhaust, but it's a cheap exhaust... mainly for weight and sound. Although I couldn't know for sure, I'd imagine the no-chug-factor to be related more to the stock engine. It's a great motorcycle, that's for sure!
Greetings from a teacher colleague from South Germany. Loved your Video. The BMW F650 seems to have almost the same engine except for the amount of valves compared to the Pegaso. Did you ever rode one ? If yes can you compare them? Appreciate your time Work and Videos! Subscribed !!!
just in case someone is interested - I got myself a 1997 BMW F650 (Rotax) about a year ago, with verified 89 000 km, currently on 92 xxx km, rode it on a 2 day XL rally (600ccm+) month back, even though its quiet heavy, it dealt with 500km of decent offroad with dignity (total of 21 hours riding time). The most important part (at least for me) is the reliability and the price. Got mine for €1200 from "garage sale", including 2 pairs of soft bags and 2 full face helmets top case. Decent deal, I guess. I ride it 50/50 on knobbies and get about 5,5l/100 (45-50-ish MPG?). When I have had metzeler tourance tires on, I would get about 4-4,5l/100 (55-60-ish MPG). Seems like the guy took a good care of the bike, and even after 92 000km, the bike is solid.
I have a BMW F650 Funduro, Which is the carbed version of this bike from the 90's with slightly better build quality, and I'll swear by the design. (BMW is heavier too, which is good on the highway but bad on the road) good bikes, good power.
I think the thing that people forget about the KLR and things like the Doohiky, is the KLR is bomb proof already... mostly. There are a few things that are weaker than other parts, but are still reasonably strong. We KLR riders choose the KLR for it's ability to never break! As you are a former owner you know the truth here. Yes it can't do some of the extreme stuff, but for 99% of what we adventure riders like, the KLR, stock, is ready to handle it. We just want that 1%. So we do the doo, we upgrade the skid plate, we might throw better bark busters on.. but really the bike was already bad ass... As for seat height, I can't fault you there at all!!! I'm 6'10" so the KLR is one of the few bikes that fit me. (after raising links and a taller seat) But I know I'm the freak in the class! Great vid though, and that bike does look awesome! Need to take a ride on one someday!
Great review! I honestly had never heard of an Aprillia before I met Peggy. I know the KLR guys are going to get mad, but I've never owned either so I understand what you are trying to say without bias. Personally if I were going to be doing a long trip like that I would probably pick a 990, but I know that is way out of the price range. On to Part 2!
How could we get mad at an honest review? Especially people like me... people who were originally looking at the BMW f650gs (especially the Dakar model)
They just do... brand loyalty runs deep, and that's okay. However, the guys who are pulling out the pitchforks to kill the beast are going to be awfully surprised: th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
I mean, I love my new (to me) KLR, but there are LOTS of awesome bikes out there. There's a reason chefs have a wide variety of knives you know, none of them are great at everything. (checking video now)
I'm kinda sad, I like the pegaso, and IMO it's just simply a better bike too...it won't have the aftermarket support of the KLR, but still, great bike. Look forward to part 2.
Yeah the aftermarket goodies can still be had (and not too expensive, like people assume)... but I would be hard-pressed to replace those parts on the road. Hence this decision: th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for bringing this bike to my attention. I'm in the market for a dual sport with more of a road focus. This looks like the bike I have been looking for! Sexy and functional ;-)
Jimmy W Ohhhh man this bike is SO sexy and SO functional! My friend ***** borrowed it for just a little while and decided to buy it! Now MrDuhfactor really misses it :)
Buy the Pegaso, stay away from the DR and KLR, they are antiques by comparison. Rode one when they first came to the states. I liked it when I rode it and considered buying one but ended up with a Triumph Tiger. The BMW F650GS dynoed with more power and received better press when compared. That said personally I thought this was the better bike. The 65MPG is real, the F650 in our family gets 72 mpg if not pushed. This bike is a deal because no one knows what it is. The Aprilia Caponord was also a great bike. It is often compared with the liter V-strom but I liked the Caponord much better. The Pegaso is definitely worth consideration, only question I have is can you get parts?
MrDuhfactor says he has a site with all the parts and they're not as expensive as one might assume... but waiting for shipping while out on an ADV could cause problems. Here's what I'm trying to do: th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
I would love to own and operate Euro bikes but I find them to be more expensive up front and in the parts department. That's just from personal experience and may not be full fact. I cant thumbs down the video because I don't hate the bike nor will I say that the KLR is the best out there... if that makes any sense.
Nothing will ever beat a KLR. Not because it's the best ADV/Dual motorcycle that's out there, but because it will take you to the end of the world and bring you back without breaking your back or your bank. It doesn't excel at anything, but it does everything well.
Is this Fuel injected? Main reason I went to the Sertao. Oh ok so it is carbed. My KLR an 09 was just a big, fat, slow bitch. One thing the KLR has is plenty of aftermarket support.
Yeah that's where it has pretty much any other bike beat hands-down.... and why it's still a serious contender when it comes to the bike I end up taking on my adventure. Just wait for the next video :)
Oh man I agree, make sure to check out the follow-up video... lots of people think I'm anti KLR when it couldn't be farther from the truth. th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
When a motorcycle gets under your skin... sometimes you just can't shake it... even if it's not the best bike in the world. th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
a seat even lower than the KLR? yuk $1500 klr vs $2500-4000 Aprilia(comparing equal year and condition), no fair!!!! i say the GS dakar is better than both... actually the husaberg 610 is way better than those three and the LC4 KTMs and dr650 the dash reminds me of the tdm850 from ~91 ....
lol, for a guy who has $10k sitting around and loves a ridiculous maintenance schedule, sure... get the KTM. I would. For the rest of us dirt-poor bastages?
eveRide ADV I just found the title a bit confusing and I'm sure you can get a used 990 for 10k. :P And the 690 Enduro R has maintenance schedules of over 10k kilometers which is fair enough to me. ;P I own a Yamaha WR250R and it's soooooooo meh compared to the 690 Enduro R. That's why I bought a 350 EXC for fun and the 250 for commute and other everyday stuff. The 690 Enduro R would be the perfect thing in the middle, but don't have space for it in the garage atm.
Rainer Diabl I need to post the video about the truth of KTMs. Everybody talks crap about them because they're what we all really want when it's all said and done. :) If I could have a 990 I would SOOOOOO get one. On the insane budget constraints I've got... my limit is about $2500 for the whole trip. That leaves the KLR, the DR650, or this Aprilia. Gotta make due, though. I have to say, Adam Riemann's KTM seemed amazing for his trip to Egypt. Someday when I have money I'll go orange. It's only a matter of time and money, amigo :)
Finaly, I've watched all your vids a while ago and never subscribed, shame on me, but hey now I did. God I'm proud of myself...........NOT. Keep making your stuff and keep save, awesome vids. Grtz from The Netherlands
eveRide ADV Thanks, Its not Griz but Grtz and Grtz is short for Greetings, the name is OD44. I'm looking forward to your 'new' KLR (the best choise) and of course the adventures you will share with us.
***** lol man I have had a problem with my brain lately. Yesterday I asked a guy from Australia if there were a lot of Aprilias in Europe. He said, "I'm in AUSTRALIA, not Austria!" I need to take a break from the computer screen for a while, I'm losing it! :)
***** Oh and KLR's ar called VERSYS 650 overhere see the link below. www.autotrader.nl/motor/kawasaki-versys/?zoekopdracht=sorteer-op-prijsvolgorde-en-prijs
Half the time i wasn't paying much attention to what you were waffling on about and got absorbed by watching the terrain and scenery.
Great video! !
Had 98 peg for 10 years. Was my commuter work horse. weekend greenlaner and long distance tourer. did some 80000 miles on the old girl.
brilliant bike!
let me down a few times.
sprag clutch
head gasket
water pump
but all easy to fix.
I remember Sprag clutch was half the price from bmw?
Most need rebuild by then
I was riding in Croatia last week, spotted one of these and really liked the look of it. Low seat hight and high engine hight on a 650 that can do great off road, love it...I also saw too many big BMW's parked up their riders too afraid to tackle a knarly down hill track and they walk it instead! Madness
Thanks for reviewing my beloved bike
How are these bikes in terms of maintenance? Manageable if one has their own space to work on them or are they a pain in the ass to work on?

So true! Availability and price of parts is a huge factor for a budget-minded adventurer... so the KLR is a win in that column for sure!
This is because it has a 5-valve single spark head, where the beamer has 4 valve twin spark (for emissions probably)
The ubiquity of spares and mods might be something that the KLR could have in its locker, when considering traveling the world, as they have been very popular.
D's mods :D
I just bought myself one just like that one. Love the ride. Brilliant bike.
I just love my aprilia pegaso 650 ga .1992 mod and runs as new .
it have got only 30k miles on the clocks thoug, got it this year, i have had honda xr 400,kawasaki kl 250, suzuki ts 250x and yamaha xt 250 and xt 350 ,all great bikes .....but....
the aprilia pegaso 650 is a class for it selves, much better bike than the japanese ones, thats the truth,,,,
for you that dont belive should try driving one, both on road and in the dirt,
the bike is great and spare parts are so easy to find ,,,,
,cause : 1992-2005 is the same engine( rotax652) as bmw f650 /f650gs,and bomadier ds650, all engine parts are the same, chain /sprockets,all oil /water seals. nearly identical as bmw f650 funduro
(in fact the bmw funduro was built for bmw at the aprilia factory the first couple of years.)
and even back suspention and eletrical parts is same as bmw.
and from 2006 and up to 2012 its the same engine as yamaha xt660 (the piaggo produced 660)
What abouth suzuki xf 650
Useful info
I was set on a klr and this video changed my mind. I bought a pegaso cube here in uk much easier to find. I love it and its easy for me as a beginner
+Robin Longsummer They're great bikes, that's for sure!
I since fell out of love with this bike, your video and many other sources claim this bike can do 60/65mpg. In real life they do 35mpg 45 absolute tops according to fuelly and my experience. now I'm on a tdm900 i don't look back.
650ie is fuel injected, so 60 u.s.mpg no problem
How wonderful, I am looking at this 10 years old presentation to understand more about the engine of the new bike I just paid for that is BSA Goldstar 650 which carries this very engine with modifications to comply with the regulations of the day. Thanks much eveRide. You rock.!!!
1. If the KLR650 had 6 gears (lower first, tall 6th) it would be the PERFECT bike...
2. That is all.
You are SOOOO right! Dear Kawasaki, please listen to this man! Just one more gear!!! :D
I loved my Aprilia SXV550 but it was high maintenance and parts were expensive and not as easy to get so the bike would be down for longer while I waited for parts to show up
There is a pegaso that has the xtx engine but it has better everything and it is awesome
The same liquid-cooled, four stroke single in the Aprilia Pegaso 650 fires the Yamaha XT660X and the Yamaha MT-03,
same problem as klr when you turn the handlebars the headlights don't turn and is it the same off-roading and as the KLR I mean not as good as your DRZ or should I say not as capable
Nate Harris Most definitely! In the long run I went with a KLR on my adventure tour over the Aprilia for those very reasons you mentioned!
Hi!
Where did you buy the handle protector?
Thanks!
my 2011 klr 650 has the 6.1 gal tank and is supposed to get 250 miles but am only getting an average of 140 miles to the tank but ive been poppin wheelies a lot so would poppin wheelies cause a dramatic loss of fuel, or is there something very serious wrong with it?
IMHO it's the best action camera on the market.. the thing is amazing! goo.gl/lCqv5i
You mean now I have to change camera's AGAIN !!
how many miles has it done? I have seen a 1999 with 42000 km. for 1900 euros.
you my friend need to buy a dr650 (and a new seat lol for it) feels lighter and more nimble and also has plenty of power, have you ridden one before???
Are you running standard 16/47 sprockets? My one's previous owner fitted a 45 rear which makes it rather unpleasant at low speeds (constant shifting required).
Where do these roads go?!
When I started searching for an old dual purpose bike, the Aprilia was one of the options, but it was expensive considering my bidget (around 1500 USD). So, I bought a Yamaha XT600E, a very reliable but no very powerful bike. And boy we had lots of fun.
The best bike is the bike that gets you out adventuring... that's the truth! :)
Yep, you should have a friend with you when you get that far out.
So far out that its not a trail....you just might need some survival skills. Be safe!!
Great video!!
+Brian Gouvea Most definitely! It's been a while since I've been out solo... and I just have so much more fun when I'm with other people!
I believe the stator is 280W and not 280A.
Sorry I got caught up on that awesome looking trail that I tune you out. Stay safe
Haha man did you see all the jump cuts? I was there myself and I couldn't keep tuned in either! :D
"Suddenly we're in Scottland" lol crackin me up man. I wish i had a stock 6.1G composite gas tank.
Looking good buddy, thanks for sharing your experience with that Aprillia. ;)
Man it's a fine motorcycle... but I've got some tricks up my sleeve.
eveRide ADV DEET. Lot's of DEET! Oh, you said tRicks.... lol
I'd be afraid to break down with the Aprilia on a long distance trip.Where do you find parts?Might as well be riding a buell
Yamaha engine as far as I know
Rotax engine. large amount of parts shared with the F650, so mostly not a problem
Wasn't sure about the earlier models hence why "as far as I know"
I hope you ride a dr before you pick. I've been really happy with mine.
kinda gota change your name now :)
nah, he's just the Oklahoma Killer now...
Dude id love to see the uncut version of this video
Love watching ur videos ,was wondering if u had any everide stickers to put on my bike
hello!! nice riding!!! what was the tire presure fr this "rocky section" ?
These 650 Rotax lumped Pegs are fantastic bikes, better than the Yamaha engines ones that came later. Mine is a 99 carby and has 96k miles on it, still rides sweet as.
How's it
That's got to be the funniest comment, or sarcastic, that Broketax mill is notorious for failed starter sprags, starter gears, swing arm bearings, r/r, and head gaskets....I like Peggys, I've owned two, but lets not complete twaddle.
how about the GS650?
+longtrangm1a I'll have to see if my buddy Dr. Dualsport will let me cruise around on his GS 650 a little more. When I rode it the first time it seemed a little anemic, but I was only on it for about 10 minutes.
I would absolutely love to get your perspective on it. I love the way you explain the difference between one bike and another. Let's just say I'd be stoked to watch that video. keep riding and video taping and stay safe.
Same engine used gs650- Yamaha xt660z tenere-xt660r-mt03
@@poulhansen2415 Early 650 gs and Aprilia both shared Rotax engines. Also good.
l do ride a 2005 "KLR~ADV".She is a nice ride and does what l need her to do.
For three years,l sold BMW motorbike's,and some "Honda" and "Aprilia".
I very got the chance to ride or sale a Pegaso.Hard to find them out in the real world.
Looked on Ebay and Cycletrader, they are to far away.I'm thinking of going back to BMW
and pick up a 2005-06 R1200GS for power and better 50/50 ride. What do you think of the Aprilia for 50/50 ride? Cheers;)
I really liked it for 50-50 riding. It was quite nice on the freeway, but I only have experience on a KLR, DRZ 400, and DR 650. I could say comfortably that it was better than those on the road.
Thanks man.Ride on and be safe,Brother:)
Yeah it's a solid bike for sure! I have really liked borrowing it, but I think different things are in the future.
No part 2?
I come from Germany
I have the same bike
It's interesting to see what's possible with this bike. I never test it in off-road
It's interesting you have the older version with the carburettor Engine .
My bike have injection.
I can see it on the control lights
You have a green light for the low light.
On this place I have the check light for the injection
I didn't really think adventure bikes were this off-road capable. Do you think the KLR would have handled this trail just fine?
Jack Middleton I think the KLR would have handled it, but the suspension can be a little testy at times. This trail is definitely not the most crazy thing a KLR could do... the DR 650, the KLR, and this Pegaso are really quite capable!
That model is carbureted or EFI? And you know about the fuel average?
I have a BMW Funduro. Essentialy the same model, the differences are that the BMW has 4 valves and different plastics. It's carburetted and consumes around 4,5 litres/100km
Nice review. Good price. I've never seen one except for Peggy. Is it a single or parallel twin?
Man you'll have to ask Damon on that one. I don't know much about this bike other than the way it feels, and it feels pretty amazing!
Early ones Rotax as used by BMW Funduro... Later I think is Yamaha... Both single. (xT660?)
You're right! You can only take an adventure if you own/can afford the bike. th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
Can build it to
Known this channel for a long time, never subbed, dont know why, just did
great review
good luck getting parts. order and wait 2 weeks.
Thanks!
Better build quality😂😂😂, they are built on the exact same production line
Oooooo...there is a part two to this story! :)
Indeed there is! Most people don't make it far enough through my ramblings to see it, but yes! th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
Dude, you're going to be amped when the reveal video comes out on Monday :D
Great review! I honestly had never heard of an Aprillia before I met Peggy. I know the KLR guys are going to get mad, but I've never owned either so I understand what you are trying to say without bias. Personally if I were going to be doing a long trip like that I would probably pick a 990, but I know that is way out of the price range. On to Part 2!
Ah man in the forums/groups some of the comments about this video have been acidic! I think people will soil their pants upon the reveal :)
When I can pick one up NEW for the same price as a KLR new, then I'll consider it competition to the KLR.
So, man, buy the bloody KLR as it is obvious that you are in love with it. It is the KLR and there rest of the world. 😂
Now MrDuhfactor really misses it :)
eveRide ADV
Went with a Vstrom 650 in the end. Still a great bike though! Let the adventures begin :)
But dakar still lil small gas tank both gud tho
Happy things.
Pegaso kicks ass mine is 1996 stills runs strong and klr guys turn their heads to look at it
any problem on getting replacement parts are they still available for old model like 98
Yes, its the better bike for me. The Motor is heavenly, you just should adjust the suspension, because it is adjusted for a 140 pound man.
I would love to own and operate Euro bikes but I find them to be more expensive up front and in the parts department. That's just from personal experience and may not be full fact. I cant thumbs down the video because I don't hate the bike nor will I say that the KLR is the best out there... if that makes any sense.
It definitely makes sense! I say the best ADV bike in the world is the one that gets you where you want to be.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Seriously my grammar is hideous.
Nothing will ever beat a KLR. Not because it's the best ADV/Dual motorcycle that's out there, but because it will take you to the end of the world and bring you back without breaking your back or your bank. It doesn't excel at anything, but it does everything well.
easy easy kawa boy🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is this Fuel injected? Main reason I went to the Sertao. Oh ok so it is carbed. My KLR an 09 was just a big, fat, slow bitch. One thing the KLR has is plenty of aftermarket support.
Yeah that's where it has pretty much any other bike beat hands-down.... and why it's still a serious contender when it comes to the bike I end up taking on my adventure. Just wait for the next video :)
Pegaso is more of a KLE competition than KLR.
KLR is supposed to be capable but rough. KLE is the Pretty boy Can go offroad if it needs to.
What a incredibles places and scapes, is better to have some water for the ride...just in case...!
I'll pass on thay European Mexican bike lol butt great video keep em coming KLR forever !!! 1St gen
Oh man I agree, make sure to check out the follow-up video... lots of people think I'm anti KLR when it couldn't be farther from the truth. th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
Its lower klr higher susp n fender. N gas tank n confy but rotax motor is legit
Bmwf650gs 2004 you can't go wrong 👍
Oh...U...dirty little 'Teaser' !!!
;)
Great eR&R !!!...so far...LOL
Motorcycle love IS motorcycle love

Nice $ mr duhfactor !!!
When a motorcycle gets under your skin... sometimes you just can't shake it... even if it's not the best bike in the world. th-cam.com/video/SVhS21pWpcE/w-d-xo.html
Thx for the reply & Vid link eR !!!
a seat even lower than the KLR? yuk
$1500 klr vs $2500-4000 Aprilia(comparing equal year and condition), no fair!!!! i say the GS dakar is better than both... actually the husaberg 610 is way better than those three and the LC4 KTMs and dr650
the dash reminds me of the tdm850 from ~91
....
Not in range comfort or reliable or maintenance n parts. Rotax legit tho
GOOD LUCK GETTING ANY PARTS IN B.F. ANYWHERE !!!
For a rotax engine that bmw used? Or the later Yamaha engine? Or are you referring to your broken CAPS LOCK button?
Sweet trail
Happy things
1) King of Adventure is the KTM 990 Adventure or the KTM 690 Enduro R
2) Aprilia? lol.
lol, for a guy who has $10k sitting around and loves a ridiculous maintenance schedule, sure... get the KTM. I would. For the rest of us dirt-poor bastages?
eveRide ADV I just found the title a bit confusing and I'm sure you can get a used 990 for 10k. :P And the 690 Enduro R has maintenance schedules of over 10k kilometers which is fair enough to me. ;P
I own a Yamaha WR250R and it's soooooooo meh compared to the 690 Enduro R.
It's only a matter of time and money, amigo :)
eveRide ADV You ever find yourself in Nebraska, drop me a line. You can take my 1190R out for a while. ;)
eveRide ADV Make that video please!
Xr600 or xr650
Muy bonito el paisaje pero necesitaba ver la moto 🏍
Italian bike, yeah it will killing you wrenching it
Rotax makes parts. Yamah moror used later models
The Home Depot gloves make me cringe. Great video otherwise.
I gave a thumbs down because you get to the end of this video to find out yet there's more. But stayed tuned!!!!! Well I was tuned in and now I'm not.
Initial....Hueeeeee!... 😁
After market parts? Cost of bike? Reliablity? Dropped mic!
You’re right is better…for you
Uh..... this is an easy question to answer! NO!!!! :)
Don't worry my friend, you will be doing KLR-related somersaults of happiness shortly.
eveRide ADV Woohooooo!!!!! :)
She’s got a sweet thoaty sound
Finaly, I've watched all your vids a while ago and never subscribed, shame on me, but hey now I did.
God I'm proud of myself...........NOT.
Keep making your stuff and keep save, awesome vids.
Grtz from The Netherlands
Glad you hopped on board Griz :D Good to have you! Hopefully I show some interesting stuff in the future.
eveRide ADV Thanks, Its not Griz but Grtz and Grtz is short for Greetings, the name is OD44.
eveRide ADV A 'wise man' from San Bernagetto once said GO AHEAD AND TAKE IT EASY.........and a couple of beers LOL :).
***** Oh and KLR's ar called VERSYS 650 overhere see the link below.
