'The worst thing about Donald Trump isn't what we've learned about him, it's what we've learned about our friends, family and neighbours that support him.'
American Voters were mad about grocery prices, so in response they chose the person who’s committed to destroying healthcare and civil services that millions of Americans depend on. They also voted for tariffs and economic policies that will directly affect them and make those things even more expensive. Does that make sense?
They think the companies pay the tariff not them. They'll be crying soon enough. Shame the rest of us with a basic understanding of economics have to suffer too.
Trump would have hammered Starmer over here too if he stood for PM. Kamala just isn't likable and her main issues are things that most people don't care about.

Look up Plato's allegory of the cave. You're still in the cave, my guy. It will be difficult to believe what they do, and what they tell you, until you poke your head out of their for a minute. And look, even if you never do, please don't be one of those awful people who cuts off their family and/or friends for not sharing your political beliefs. That sort of thing is truly sad and unfortunate. Some of my family and friends voted Harris, some voted Trump, but I would never cut anyone off for that.
So you've voted for Killary with all her deleted emails, a man with dementia who hid in his basement for the entire campaign, and a hyena that doesn't know where the border is!
You’re certainly not alone, James. I’m American and voted for Kamala Harris yesterday. I am again befuddled and horrified that half of the people in this country heard straight from trump’s mouth, saw his behavior, heard the warnings, and stepped right up and said , “yes, I’ll have 4 more years of that f-ing insanity.” I’ve lived in California all my life (66 years) and I can’t fully understand. The willful ignorance, the stupidity, the foolish and pigheaded insistence on focusing on the price of petrol, and demands that trump, who ran his businesses into bankruptcy numerous times, would be better for the economy just boggles the mind. His supporters would not be convinced by facts and logic, so I have to believe that this is an emotional issue only for them. Their fear of people who are different from themselves and their anger at the “elites” (which means people who are educated or can think) who make them feel “less than,” are what drives their choice of trump. Their insecurity drives them to take any action they can to get back at the rest of the country, even if it hurts themselves.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Believe me, even some of those that voted for him know that there's no way this guy should be president of the US.
You're not alone my friend! I live in Florida and voted for Harris it's not easy here. But we have to fight back my friend we can't lay down cause that's what they want. Blessings to you and your family 🙏

As a citizen of the United States, I’m unable to answer your question, as I, too, am dismayed over the choice between decency and outright racism and hatred under an obvious false banner of Christianity.
I am from USA West Virginia a very rural state and for the life of me I don’t understand how even one person in our state and country could support this man. He is the exact opposite of how everyone that I have ever known teaches their kids how to be . He is grossly incompetent. He is a criminal.

Okay, now that I've listened to the whole video I'll try to genuinely answer your question based on conversations I've had with friends from the UK. I think it can be very hard for Brits to understand that the U.S. is both a massive country but also one with stark cultural divides. And yet, those divides, in distance, aren't necessarily quite that far. For example, I grew up in a small, rural town. Everyone there is a white Christian. They don't have a grocery store but they have a massive church. They live in an incredibly insular world where everyone looks, acts, thinks, and talks like them. Today, I only live about a half hour drive from that town in a still small city but the differences are dramatic. Everyone here is incredibly diverse. It was a huge culture shock for me when I first moved here for college. I found myself misspeaking and learning about the world every single day. I quickly understood that my entire life before that moment existed within a bubble where I thought I had all the answers. Those people that support Trump? Most of them are those who grew up in a similar bubble but never left it. They've never had their worldviews challenged. In fact, by being in such a homogenized community, they've spent every day having those close-minded worldviews reinforced. They don't care about black people because they've never interacted with a black person. They don't see trans people as anything other than people with a supposed mental disorder because they've never met a trans person in their lives. The only thing they've ever known is their own, selfish outlook so they will fight that much harder to maintain that status quo. As the saying goes: when you live a life of privilege, you see equality as oppression. It's like that all over the country. Rural areas within spitting distance of larger cities that don't understand that life. Myopic people that have never been given a reason to even consider if their view might not be in line with reality. Other like-minded people who create an echo chamber. It's hard to break the cycle when half the people don't even think there's a cycle in the first place.
Agreed. My whole life I've lived in states with high tourism mainly on the west coast. I've recently moved to a very rural area in the southeast and have met so many people who have never left their County or town. They are scared of what they do not know and what they think they know about anything that is different from their norm. It boggles my mind when they say they love this country so much but yet have only experienced a very small fraction of it. What's more surprising is they have no desire to explore this country out of fear.
@@Captain_Subpar I grew up in a rural town. When I moved away, I knew few people who were not white and Christian. I didn’t even know that some religions existed. Precisely what you described. It is that and incredible levels of Racism. Something I notice in the British press, newspapers or in their Broadcasts which I have studied for over 15 years is that they almost NEVER ever discuss, talk about or mention Race, racism or racial animas. Comments sections and beyond whether it is the Guardian or not it is apparent that British people seem to have this blind spot or area where they either cannot or do not choose to see it, which is the factor of race and skin color and not merely class distinctions and religious indoctrination is what is playing out in American political and Civic life for over 70 plus years. I feel they genuinely do not want to discuss these topics or feel they cannot but it lends to a hollowness or lack sense that something is missing when it comes to the situation and politics in the USA. I am a Black woman and have had the opportunity to live in the UK and visit for nearly a decade. I have visited a great many areas and regions, from London to the SE and SW coast, to the Midlands and Yorkshire, Wales, Lancashire and some of Scotland and I tell you that after being amongst them, eating, working and going to the grocery store etc. dealing with everyday ordinary people, meeting every Ethnicity and many levels of Class strata one of them the son of a Lord I tell you they don't talk about what you just outlined, unless there is a riot! I have even met a few politicians and despite the earnest desire to want to better understand the reasons why Yanks do this or that or why or HOW someone like trump (and other Republican politicians) can survive and be considered for electability to the highest offices in this Land, election after election and still, the Brits - particularly the English they will not go there - to factor Race, racial resentment, racism and propensity for White Supremacy sentiments is something they will not do, so they will remain clueless and state it day in and day out in the comments, to Americans they may meet or know that they don't understand why or how Trump is so popular and is 'allowed' to persist but I understand.

I moved to a large, diverse city and had new experiences, met different people, and learned more about other beliefs and cultures. Many of my family who never left the small insulated town are MAGA.
All Yanks do. Whether they would admit it themselves or not.
