I was a Bernie Sanders delegate to the National Convention in 2016. Though I live in Iowa now, I grew up in Vermont, and I've voted for Bernie in every election that I could. I can say without any reservation that he's truly a man of the people, for the people. If we had just 25 more Bernies in Washington, the country would be fixed quite quickly.

After 2016 I knew absolutely that any even slightly progressive America will and can never be. I dismiss all politics as inevitably succumbing to authoritarian fascism, which is inevitable here. Who is the top of the food chain? The winners. Always. The money that destroys the Bernie types.

The US electorate didn’t vote for Trump. That was the Electoral College.
It makes me want to weep that Bernie accepted the primary outcome in 2016 without complaint, but too many of his fans preferred to abstain, vote third party, or write in his name than to vote for Hillary. I’m a few thousand miles away and I could see the threat to SCOTUS and Roe v Wade after Republicans stopped Obama from appointing Merrick Garland.

You can blame the Dems for that one… I was ready to support Bernie in 2016 (my first election) but went for Trump instead simply because the Dems cheated him out. They did it again in 2020 and I would never ever vote Dem for the rest of my life. The notion that Trump is somehow worse than Biden is just a farce imo. Most Americans would probably say they did better under Trump than Biden and the polls really do reflect that.

He was (is) too sophisticated in his thinking and too progressive in his ideas - i.e. he constituted a threat to the established order, which exists to serve the interests of the few. Without any doubt, his presidency would have been constantly undermined by right-wing elements (of both the GOP and the Democratic Party), as was the case with the UK's Jeremy Corbyn, who, as Labour Party leader, inherited a party completely antipathetic to the socialist ideals it was founded upon.
