I actually really like the character design for the trucker lady. It's one you hardly ever see in anime, where women are either young, hot, and thin, or grannies. But this character is a middle-aged slightly chunky lady whose tough looking, but still has this subtle femininity to her facial features.
Thats the problem with One Piece today, all girls became sex dolls, and if there is a "not ugly" girl she has to be a hero, or will turn out to be one. Fucking toei...
pretty sure her husband is still alive. it was implied in the ending of that episode, that he is still somewhere doing Bounty hunting. when she offered Spike money (because he knew her name right) he only took one note out of that bunch and said something like "save it for your husband, he will like a drink"
Dark Saiyan Knight I'd personally disagree. It was how they were made, but the series finale is very good, and watching the movie after it would just feel odd.
Its heavily hinted that the bounty hunter business goes like this. After the gates were created (That allow hyper travel) the planets were populated and the criminal organizations grew so big that the Police Squads and Federations had to allow bounty hunting.
I always thought that the reason was more about the police having to cover the entire solar system due to the shear vastness of it all, hence the term "cowboy."
Joe Kerr, I mean, bounty hunting is still allowed (at least in my country) it probably just grew in popularity due to the humongous population of the solar system.
ReapersReign 87 I thought it was a man for a while when I saw the show for the first time. All the episodes were named after songs so I assumed it was called Heavy Metal Queen because that was the name of the song.
The "Spike in space" scene is trying to be accurate, with how they show him using earplugs to help prevent depressurization and using the gun to propel himself. It's not that Spike is "enhanced" in the show, it's just that the writers fell victim to some common misunderstandings about survival in space - which basically no show gets right because it's hard to have cool space scenes if you play by the rules. First, they just had him stay out there too long - without a suit you can last 15-20 seconds before you lose consciousness, then it takes a bit longer for you to actually die. Even after he made it in, he'd have frostbite from how unbelievably cold space is. Second, they have him take that huge breath as preparation, which seems right based on common sense, but in space that'd actually kill him quicker because all the oxygen in his lungs would immediately expand. The way you have to do it to survive for any length of time is to *exhale* first, then you survive on the oxygen left in your blood until it runs out - which is why you've only got 15-20 seconds of consciousness.
Space isn't "cold." There's just nothing preventing you from radiating heat out of your body, which will eventually reduce your temperature to near absolute zero. Because of all the naked radiation, though, your goose would be cooked pretty quickly. An average person can go longer than 20 seconds without breathing and not pass out. An athletic individual could go way longer than that and remain conscious. You pass out quickly in vacuum because the lack of pressure makes the nitrogen in your blood "boil," impeding the flow of oxygenated blood. My favorite sci-fi series space exposures were Crichton's in Farscape, where he hyperventilated first to increase the amount of oxygen in his system to buy a little more time in the vacuum; and a Belter in The Expanse who opened his helmet very briefly to get rid of a loose wire interfering with his view, during which he exhaled at a steady rate to keep his lungs from bursting.
Also, dont know if you guys noticed but. Yes, there is mexicans and Mars is basically divided in different cultural areas. New York, Hong Kong and a little mexico style town. so yes, multi cultural
2:26 Nahid, no please don't watch the movie before the series ends. Series is series and movie is movie. They should not be mix together. It's like mixing to good foods together and then both of them loose flavours. Series is first and then the movie. That is how they were made and how they should be watched.
Honestly, I feel like they can watch the movie anyway they want since it doesn't add anything new to the mix. It just feels like a longer episode of cowboy bebop.
This is one of the episodes that I like the most. There is nothing especially good about it. But there are just many little good things, and it is good as the whole. And the heavy metal is different to what the music is usually, that is interesting change.
7:00 I was hoping that Rana would have a reaction to the floating cat. But at least there was that reaction. :) 13:38 And I was also hoping for a reaction to the 'Chicago truck' and there was one. :) 21:07 Yeah, the world building is great in Cowboy Bebop. yoko kanno is a freaking genius, I highly recommend to research all of her invovlement with certain animes but also the music of her own band - the seatbelts...
I just did a short search regarding these accusations... even if... ever looked up most of John Williams work, especially for the star wars movies ? that is also a shameless rip-off of classical composers! and everyone is celebrating him too! Not saying that plagiarism isn't bad, but in entertainment, especially for anime, I don't think it is that much of an issue. I view it more as some sort of remix like DJ's do with existing music in their "pieces". She is still pretty good at composing and playing I would say.
@@Luemm3l Stop making excuses for plagiarism. If she wanted to do a cover or remix version of existing songs she would have labeled them as such. She labeled those songs as her own though which makes it plagiarism and I don't see how she should get a pass for it, because it's anime. Also it isn't an "if". It is pretty obvious she has copied rythm, melody and more of other songs and it has been proven repeadetly by other people including a bunch of videos here on YT. You can look them up. Think more about the lengths, risks and costs of what spike is willing to do. Things to take note about this episode is not just the detail of the lives of civilians and the disruption cowboys can cause. We get a glimpse of what each character does when for most of the episode they spend waiting for the bounty to surface. Spike goes bar to bar and hungover whilst waiting for news. Then he's doing laundry till he appears again. Feay is eating surplus amounts of ice cream and yet does not seem satisfied with what she's got, jet is just killing time on Beepbop getting repairs done.
Yea you get about 20 seconds in space before irreparable damage is caused. There was a cosmonaut who was exposed top a vacuum and stayed conscious for awhile and even made a full recovery.
17:15 the issue isn't that you die immediately in space, but it is very hostile. Mostly think of it as a severe case of the bends. Also, don't hold your breath, because your lungs will burst, so you'll have to do whatever you need to with whatever oxygen is in your bloodstream after you exhale.
PixelHunter I checked and at least one person has been exposed to a rapid decompression to vacuum, Jim LeBlanc. He wasn't in space, but dropped to 0.1 PSI in about a second. He stayed conscious for about 15 seconds, and made a quick recovery when put under pressure again. I'm not saying the show is perfectly realistic, in particular Spike inhales, and he stays conscious long enough to make it look like he's successfully holding his breath, which definitely wouldn't work and would cause more lung damage. I'm just saying it's not instant death.
There's nothing confusing about Ed. She just uses the name Ed because she likes it. She's a girl. That's never been in dispute. If a girl with a boy's name confuses you, you're in for a long, confusing life.
Here's an article about what happens if a person is exposed to the vacuum of space: www.cnet.com/news/what-happens-to-the-unprotected-human-body-in-space/ No, you don't boil, your body doesn't explode, you don't freeze instantly. You're pretty ok except for not having oxygen going to your brain. You'll suffocate long before any of the other bad things happen. They should have had Spike take a bunch of quick, deep breaths and then exhale everything beforehand (the air in his lungs would rupture them), like free divers do, manually hyperventilate to purge CO2 from the body (don't try this at home kids, only if you're actually trapped in space). It doesn't increase the Oxygen in the blood, just tricks your bod into not panicking for breath. Experienced free divers go without Oxygen for minutes at a time, though there's probably a buildup of brain damage.
1. Don't ever mess with a hung-over "Spike Spiegel's" Mountain Oyster. 2. Bounty Hunters are viewed as Scum by "normal people." 3. Heavy Metal still exists in the Future. 4. Evil geniuses don't look like monsters,.scarred thugs, or any of "the usual suspects."
Holding your breath in space would actually cause your lungs to explode from the air trying to escape because of the vaccum outside of your body. The best bet would be to take the guy's advice in Titan AE and exhale. Better yet, don't expose yourself to vaccum, the end results of being there for more than a few seconds wouldn't be pretty.
I wouldn't say that there isn't an over arching story. Whoever told you that is mistaken. Its more like Burn Notice if you've seen the show. It does have a overall story but it is episodic at times throughout.
I am not sure if they addressed it in the episode because I have seen this episode less than any other episode, but the little bombs seemed like they were binary explosives. Both compounds are relatively non-reactive individually, but don't like each other so they explode if mixed.
It seems as though some of you may have missed that she said her handle was *_"Heavy Metal Queen"_* when she was calling the other _"truckers."_ Since you were talking, and a few of you were _still_ questioning the character's gender after said scene, I thought I'd mention it. No biggie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As the movie came out _after_ the show was done, you don't _really_ need to watch the movie _before_ the last episode (since they are all generally episodic). But it is nice that you have that choice. Those of us that managed to watch the show back in the day, had to watch the movie afterwards, _because it was made afterwards._
About the movie, you can see it between episodes 22 and 23 (chronological order) or after the show (order of release). In both cases is right, because the movie help to explain more about Spike's internal motivations, but is a amazing movie too.
Good reaction! By the way for exposed human in space oxygen is not biggest problem. In space there is no air pressure at all, and pressure is the continuous physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it. Because there is no pressure in space to keep the liquids in our bodies from being a liquid state, because the boiling process would cause them to lose heat very rapidly, then the fluids would freeze before they were totally evaporated. Your tissues i.e the skin, heart etc would expand due to the boiling fluids, but they wouldn't explode. You would also be exposed to a number of different types of radiation and would experience the absolute 0 of space. P.S. Good news, that u going to see the Bebop movie too. And I again recomend the Trigun anime, it is form the same era, have episodes themes too but it have more complex storyline. and WHY i have remembered it again, waching your Bebop reaction, it have aftermovie too! Just like Bebop!
You guys are missing out by skipping the previews. We all watched them back in the day & they were a blast. They didn't ruin anything. Don't think spoiler. Think *teaser* .
This is a cool episode. Episode 8 is great! Looking forward to it among many others. Loving the reactions and super glad you guys are enjoying this great series.
Guys do Kill la Kill Also, I just binged all of cowboy bebop again after getting started b/c you guys were doing these recaps. I'd say the movie takes place *before* the last 3 episodes. The last two episodes are a 2-parter. I doesn't really matter that much when you watch it, so long as it's before the last episode.
Spikes not augmented the only thing that's fake is one of his eye tho spike was supposed to die but he survived the fall which jet does make reference to it tho and Faye(I could be wrong but his right eye is prosthetic). And yes he's a she
You don't blow up or get depressurized in space, though he should have exhaled the air in his lungs, not sucked air in. There was an Episode in Expanse that did a good example of this. You can survive in space for almost 2 minutes without injury, assuming you exhaled the air in your lungs prior to being exposed.
yep, I read that too a couple of years ago when people were talking about Starlord surviving in space for a bit before being rescued in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and they said that it wouldn't be that unusual and they gave the 1 1/2-2 min number also without suffering ill effects. They know a lot of this because of early tests of animals (chimps and dogs) for space flight and the effects on mammals in a vacuum.
I dont kniw where you guys live but the cowboy bebop movie is returning to theaters for the 20th anniversary at the end of august and you do t need to know the whole show to u derstand it
You guys' reaction to VT's design made me realize something: I can't name another anime outside of Bebop that draws EVERYONE - men, women, Lgbtq; old and young; skinny, fat, hefty, narrow, square - literally dozens of different races and creeds...and NOT ONE of them are represented as a silly or demeaning stereotype. There's no attention really called to it, either - everything and everyone is treated so realistically, and so _casually_ that you just dont think twice about it. But when I think of _why_ we don't see that anymore, and why you guys couldn't process VT's design at first, is due to the fact that multicultural variation doesn't sell_ in mainstream anime. You will probably never see a "fat" character that isn't comic relief. You will probably never see a "woman" character that is proportioned realistically and over 40, and NOT used as a subordinate, hypersexualized, forgotten, sagely, or an antagonist. (And yeah... good luck with finding any blacks in the mainstream, period. -__-; ) Our minds have been conditioned towards the most popular "shape" for a female in anime...and that's both really fascinating and kind of sad.
We can't assume that Spike was completely in pure space...they are in a shipping tunnel that people clearly worked in at some point. So it's reasonable to believe it's less dangerous than just jumping out of his ship in the middle of space.
This show wasnt meant to be a hard scifi. There are so many things you could point to as not being hyper realistic but thats not the point. As long as a fictional world doesnt intend to be hyper realistic that is fine. In those situations you just judge it on whether it breaks its own rules.
Full stop! The movie, if you guys watch it... Do it BEFORE SESSION 23! DO NOT WAIT UNTIL 25 OR THINGS JUST DONT LINE UP WITH WHO'S THERE. I will not say what happens or to who.
In the english sub version you might not have known right off the bat that VT was a girl because the japanese accent can come off a bit androgynous at times.
Science was not hold back for 1000 years in the "dark age". Its called dark age, because records of this time are sporadically. But progress was made in medicine, ingeniering, and even machinery. And how? Cause the christian monasteries conserved and expanded on known and unknown sciene. Thats a fact...at least in Europe and East-Asia.
Hey how are you guys gonna decide what's replacing Cowboy Bebop when it's done? Cause I'd really like a community poll like you guys did with HxH! And if you do there's so many shows I want you guys to watch! But here's three really good ones that you guys can decide whether to watch or not! Assassination Classroom | Parasyte the Maxim | and Steins;Gate. Ok have a nice day! 😁
It might be similar to how bounty hunters are now, or they're treated better, because there's just way more area/territory to police, so bounty hunters are relied on a bit more, plus they actually have a bit more orginization to them, though that is somewhat a thing now.
I actually really like the character design for the trucker lady. It's one you hardly ever see in anime, where women are either young, hot, and thin, or grannies. Nick Stanton she was still a plus sized girl in her youth.

the episode is literally Called heavy metal QUEEN and it takes them forever to realise its a woman
Tony Marshall exactly, how dense can they be? No common sense
Not to mention missing all the clues about Spike's past (and the fact he's quite probably dead all along and this is purgatory).
this is why I'm not subscribed to them. lmao.

Jack D. Ripper actually due to pressure changes the water in your body would boil. You'd be done for almost instantly
Also you shit yourself and possible also puke because all gases in your body rapidly expands. This one, people don't get right on purpose.
Only specific soft tissues like eyes. The body i surprisingly good in keeping moisture in, skin is a lot tougher than one might think.

Nah. That voice is pretty clearly a woman's.

Plus the name of the episode is Heavy Metal Queen....
It bugged me everytime they said "he."
That’s one of the reasons I prefer the English sub. The original Japanese voice actor was much harder to pin down, gender-wise

Cowboy Bebop is the type of anime that heavily leans on the "show, don't tell" Modus Operandi on great television.
the movie is set during 22 and 23. and then you jump to the last 4 episodes.
Considering all the explosions going on in the mine, I just figured there was a thin atmosphere in there.

I was thinking of the same thing. LOL 😄😄😄
wow, imagine that....
...And he's in a restaurant full of little kids...
Sealed tunnel filled with gas from exhuast and explosive remnants would keep pressure above a vacuum.
10:59 That's what we call a Prairie oyster gentlemen.
It's actually hella cold in space so holding your breath wouldn't be enough yes 18:25
The intros to the Venture Bros. and Archer take a LOT from Cowboy Bebop's intro.
Probably because my dad has been a trucker for the better part of 35 years, this was always one of my fav bebop episodes.
That said, if you're in a chamber that can be opened to vacuum that easily, why aren't you already wearing a low-profile space suit.
Wouldn’t u freeze to death and the liquids sucked out your body
The water in your body would boil. You're dead.
I can not wait for them to meed Edward!!! JAMMING WITH EDWARD
Freddy Dominguez 😻
If VT got them confused, imagine little Edward Tivrusky IV
There's nothing confusing about Ed. She just uses the name Ed because she likes it. She's a girl. That's never been in dispute. If a girl with a boy's name confuses you, you're in for a long, confusing life.
Waltz for Venus is the one I'm looking forward too
Here's an article about what happens if a person is exposed to the vacuum of space: www.cnet.com/news/what-happens-to-the-unprotected-human-body-in-space/
No, you don't boil, your body doesn't explode, you don't freeze instantly.
2. Bounty Hunters are viewed as Scum by "normal people."
3. Heavy Metal still exists in the Future.
4. Evil geniuses don't look like monsters,.scarred thugs, or any of "the usual suspects."
You guys should definitely react to My Hero Academia for your next anime series reaction. It's got incredible characters and fight scenes.
100000000%
PLUS ULTRA
Holding your breath in space would actually cause your lungs to explode from the air trying to escape because of the vaccum outside of your body. The best bet would be to take the guy's advice in Titan AE and exhale.
Better yet, don't expose yourself to vaccum, the end results of being there for more than a few seconds wouldn't be pretty.
To the guy that was comparing Vicious to Sephiroth theres a ff7 version of this intro!
He's not enhanced, they try to be realistic but it is an anime show and he is the hero character
SuperBlueboy2010 - He's partially enhanced. One of his eyes is a bionic replacement.
That's not even enhanced. I doubt it works better than his other eye.
frankenzion0001 I wouldn't really call it an enhancment, it's more like a prosthetic. He lost his eye, so the doctors gave him a fake one.
I wouldn't say that there isn't an over arching story. Whoever told you that is mistaken. Its more like Burn Notice if you've seen the show. It does have a overall story but it is episodic at times throughout.
When they were inside the mining asteroid, the was likely thin atmosphere rather than vaccuum.
Marketa, loving the look!!!
today she decided to get sexy,
it's easy for she 8-D
I am not sure if they addressed it in the episode because I have seen this episode less than any other episode, but the little bombs seemed like they were binary explosives. Both compounds are relatively non-reactive individually, but don't like each other so they explode if mixed.
Love Rana's socks!
I wonder isn't wearing socks hot in sunny hot summer.
Tsögö Bauggi not in this cold basement!
I love what goes in her socks.
Runa Mohammad Oh. I would like to be there then. July was so hot even here in Finland that there hasnt been a cold or cool place in a long time. :)
20:32 Love Rana's singing
It seems as though some of you may have missed that she said her handle was *_"Heavy Metal Queen"_* when she was calling the other _"truckers."_ Since you were talking, and a few of you were _still_ questioning the character's gender after said scene, I thought I'd mention it.
No biggie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As the movie came out _after_ the show was done, you don't _really_ need to watch the movie _before_ the last episode (since they are all generally episodic). But it is nice that you have that choice. Those of us that managed to watch the show back in the day, had to watch the movie afterwards, _because it was made afterwards._
It annoys me so much how they keep talking over dialogue. Just watch the sub if you wanna keep yapping, it's the better version anyway.
@@KaregoAt Yeah, I think these guys are some of the worst perpetrators of that. 🙄
While Cowboy Bebop influenced a lot of media that came after (firefly?), it was influenced by Lupin III.
In a very minor way.
It draws some influence from Crusher Joe and a great number of American films.
You guys are missing out by skipping the previews. We all watched them back in the day & they were a blast. They didn't ruin anything. Don't think spoiler. Think *teaser* .
Who else saw Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door in the theatre when it came out?
Big story is throughout the sessions. There are slight references. Just a few sessions are all about the big story.
I don't understand how Faye can stay so fit, she obviously has a horrible diet.
I really liked this episode, VT is a character i really liked after watching this episode she's tough looking and puts the creepy guys in there place
This is a cool episode. Episode 8 is great! Looking forward to it among many others. Loving the reactions and super glad you guys are enjoying this great series.
Guys do Kill la Kill
Also, I just binged all of cowboy bebop again after getting started b/c you guys were doing these recaps.
Next week is one of my favorite episodes. Can't wait!
Movie is in between sessions 22 and 23. There is no specific time line as far as time passing of course. Just general
18:00 Yup, all the air in your lungs would be instantly sucked out and your lungs would collapse. Also your blood would boil.
Just drop the "enhanced" idea. You're a million miles off and you're just confusing yourselves
B-but how else will Mickey let everyone know h-he's s-s-so smart???
Did you all see how he stated that "It's 2071 guys!!!!!!!!"... Like Navi did a couple episodes ago
It's amazing just how far off they all are.
There is an overall plot but it is only touched on in a handful of sessions directly but there are hints here in there throughout.
Great reaction as always... Was wondering will you guys thinking about doing reactions on Sharp Objects(HBO)
I dont kniw where you guys live but the cowboy bebop movie is returning to theaters for the 20th anniversary at the end of august and you do t need to know the whole show to u derstand it
Next episode gets you in the feels.
This video just tells us how mikey is a third wheel lol
You can last about 30 seconds but you actually have to purge the air in your lungs.
It's an anime. It doesn't have to be 100,,%accurate lol
You're Under Arrest, GetBackers. You've never seen any of those 2.
There's definitely a main story arc but it's peppered throughout.
Metal is for everyone.
We can't assume that Spike was completely in pure space...they are in a shipping tunnel that people clearly worked in at some point. So it's reasonable to believe it's less dangerous than just jumping out of his ship in the middle of space.
You would either freeze or melt in space because of the low temperatures of the vacuum, and because of the lack of filters of sun radiation.
But they're in a tunnel
EVANESCENCE?! I thought everybody left that band?
(The members, that is.)
If you guys are hyped about chicago in anime, Riding bean and gunsmith cats take place in chicago amazing anime altogether thwy make up 3episodes
Or that mining asteroid had some sort of thin atmosphere with a bit of pressure.
15:26 that's what she said
There are some minor references in the outro talking about the next episode.
Does the guy on the left in the beginning (moves to the right) have his own Instagram? I want to follow him
Your blood boils in space. Your eyes pop out of your skull. Micky is right.
One of my favorite episodes.
The movie is as episodic as the whole anime so you can just watch in any particular order. It was released 5 years after the end of the series anyway.
See. Every episode reveals more about our characters. It's all more interconnected than you think.
Enough with cyborg Spike...stop.
The bounty they are after is a bounty cause he stole explosives
Incorrect sir. The movie takes place between episode 23 and 24
"This show is ahead of its time" obviously hasnt watched ANY gundam
This show wasnt meant to be a hard scifi. There are so many things you could point to as not being hyper realistic but thats not the point. As long as a fictional world doesnt intend to be hyper realistic that is fine. In those situations you just judge it on whether it breaks its own rules.
You are wrong. It's between 22 and 23.
Mickey spoutin' some dumb shit about the Dark Ages.
Oh my Lord ranas outfit today!😍😍😍😍❤❤❤
Full stop!
The movie, if you guys watch it...
Do it BEFORE SESSION 23!
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL 25 OR THINGS JUST DONT LINE UP WITH WHO'S THERE.
I will not say what happens or to who.
Mushroom samba is my favorite episode
Wait till yall get to the movie
Victoria only has that view of bounty hunters cause of what happened to her husband
When she says Evanecence can get to metal 😂😂😂
ahh yeah my second favorite episode (fave is episode twenty).
NO MORE KIKI
Damn, Marketa...
It might be similar to how bounty hunters are now, or they're treated better, because there's just way more area/territory to police, so bounty hunters are relied on a bit more, plus they actually have a bit more orginization to them, though that is somewhat a thing now.
How did all five of them make the same mistake? I thought VT was a guy at first but the voice gave it away.
