I second this. I actually got in a little bit of an argument with another youtuber because he was doing a review of a leatherman surge in the black oxide. I told him his surge has no scratches on it and thats how I know he does not use it and he flipped out on me
Thanks for the video. I've been carrying a surge with the two bit kits for almost a year now and never leave home without it. The t-shank feature is why I chose the surge.
@@doodysdaggersGood morning sir ! Just watched your video again and subscribed. I'm looking forward to future updates on your surge. I have found mine very handy and saved me and my partner at work many trips back to the shop. I recently added the 711L articulating ratchet to my edc. Have yourself a great weekend. 👍👊🤝
I'm maintenance at a fab shop and carry the titanium charge all day everyday. Coming up on 3 years if carrying it and absolutely love it, i do carry the bit set with me in the sheath and have never had one fall out. This tool has saved me hundreds of trips back to the cage lol.
That’s a badass tool dood! I’ve looked at that one on and off for years. I’ve considered getting the bit set, does it fit with the tool in its sheath or do you have an aftermarket sheath?
Good video Sir! I got the Leatherman super tool 200, Wingman, Skeletool, Signal, Wave +, Charge + and just ordered the Surge! Thanks for sharing the long use video!
Love the surge , just ordered another one cause it does everything I need it to do. That being said, now they have an Arc, but I decided not to spend the extra and go with the surge once again, I just don't need a magnacut blade at the moment.
Waiting on my surge now! I am in an industrial environment and I am not easy on things. I've Packed the rebar around for about 7 years now and have been ready to upgrade for a year. You're making me think I made the right decision!
As I was watching, I wondered about rather than cutting something thick that I'd cut something really thin that most cutters won't. I cut the end off a .010 guitar string and it had a nice crisp clip. Excellent tool!
I just got the skeletor and pulled bits out initially upon receipt until realised press thing to get bit out so its possible I guess the bits catch. It's good to know.
have the blacked out surge love it. i don't do extreme manual labor anymore. I have it in an alpaka pouch that I tried to build around the surge as an edc fix it kit. throw it in console of the truck or in the backpack. not much the surge can't handle. great review
Finally got a leatherman after years of kinda wanting one. I chose a rebar for the size and tools and after a short bit of carrying and using it, i think the one hand tools would be pretty nice to have. I carry a dedicated folder so its still not a big deal but I end up using the rebars blade more than i thought i would. Actually been thinking about a surge next, but Im gonna give the rebar a couple more months to see if i need more tool or I keep carrying a multitool or not. Definitely useful to have though. It was nice to see a review almost tailored for what i have and might want instead of a tabletop of a shiny new tool fresh out of the box.
I freaking love the design of the Heritage case. The medium brown leather, diagonal Leatherman printing in gold, and the brass snap button. I just wish it was a better quality case. It should be full grain leather instead of genuine leather. Stitching should be better too. Oh, well. Still looks dope. I ordered a couple of them anyway. Thanks for the review.
You could send it back to Leatherman and they’ll fix it you’ll just have to get by with the Rebar for a couple of weeks. I have the 1st gen Surge and it’s my go to for the heavy lifting jobs! 💪
Yes sir love that leatherman gonna get some love from a knife reviewer, I have the Rebar pliers, awl in my wave plus, also the charge knife in it ( s30v) and plan to put the gut hook serrated blade in it
You got a follow from me for two reasons. 1 I love my Leatherman surge. I wanted to see what other people thought of the tool. 2 the Norse tattoo on your hand.
I'd love a Surge with super steel. I love my Rebar and I am fine with it having h420 steel. But for a tool semi-meant for heavy duty use like the Surge. I do wish more a more premium option like the Charge and the Charge + TTI.
Check out the american benchcraft sheaths. Theres 1 specifically for each multitool. No stitching. Just 1 piece leather. Riveted. And the toughest best leather. Expensive but worth it
I have one question. When you are using the Multitool for work. Is the liner lock important for your work? Asking because so many "survival experts" on youtube seem to think that this is important. And I never find out why. I would prefer those knifes without a lock. Simple because carrying such a knife is illegal in my country. I never find out why those locks on one hand knifes are this important. About how smooth the Surge goes. From my experience the production isn't perfect. Meaning the tool can go smooth or not. As I have a Wave for myself. I ordered two as I read about it in comments. My result was one smooth working tool and one that wasn't really smooth. But thanks to Amazon 1 out of 2 isn't bad. About loosing the bits...A friend of mine is working in events and is using a Surge. He also lost his bit while running around at work. So I think it is a real problem for the Surge. I myself, with my Wave, don't have the problems with loosing bits. But it's smaller and everything appears to be a little more narrow. Well, and I'm working electronics. So I'm not fiddling with my multitool every now and then and also only sometimes outsides. And I think the bits should be magnetic. Maybe with a magnet in the holder? You can magnetize the bits but they only get a little hold. And when loosing a screw...most the times you need to get it back out of the place with mechanics where it fall into. So...most the times is better to instantly get the real tool. But...even with the risks. They can often be prevented and then it's handy to just use the little thingy instead of a full tool box. Great Video. Thanks a lot.
The leatherman surge is a little extra without being all that extra. It does all the things.... it is chunky and heavy as shut and needs extras to make it all work if you want it all......
First off, leather man has the best warranty on the market. Why aren’t you using it? You don’t have to pay to replace all that stuff, leather man will do it for free. Secondly, you should get the full bit kit. It’s got Phillips, flat, hex, torx, square, etc.
Awesome. For those who want to try a Surge clone, to see if they'd like the size, currently Bibury 32-IN-1 on Amazon is selling for $37. I ordered one to try out. It was reviewed positively on youtube. I am not affiliated with anyone, lol.
Thanks for review just got one for my Dad for Christmas, im thinking he will like it. Hope everyone has a blessed year 😊 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Not sure I'm 100% here but pretty sure buck has a different formulation for there 420 which puts it miles ahead. Zak in the wild did a segment (nick shabaz and a few others also)
I REALLY enjoy seeing a review of a used tool!! You’re gonna hear others saying: “so, let me do the unboxing and ‘review’ ”… I say “what??”
Yes exactly!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it

Finally an after use review from a real heavy duty user.
Yessir! There’s a serious lack of actual use happening in reviews
Thanks for the video. I've been carrying a surge with the two bit kits for almost a year now and never leave home without it. The t-shank feature is why I chose the surge.
T shank feature should be on EVERY Leatherman.

Hey, thanks for a real review. It's much more helpful to watch such a review of a used Leatherman, rather than an unboxing video. Thanks again
That sheath is very nice and classic. Thanks for the recommendation.

The Surge is really heavy, I actually regularly carry a Wave+ now. It’s very similar to the Surge but much lighter

This is my dedicated car multitool. Can handle a whole heck of a ton of stuff.
I recently bought the BiBury Pliers Pro which is the clone of this tool. Seems really good and hope it serves me well.

9 years now in my pocket. Just a broken pin on the scissors. Got them replaced.
Thanx for the review. Appreciate it
with my signal the mechanism holds tight only one way the bit is flipped let my know if that helped (the skeletool mchanism doesn't have that issue)
Ah okay I’ll try that

You bitholder retention spring may be loose. Warranty would likely cover that.

Having it lock open is more safe, so it can’t close on your fingers.
Those washer things under the screws remind me of gills on the underside of mushrooms! Dope vid Doody
Oh yeah they totally do!!

I just wish it had a better steel on the main blade
