  • “Oh you the creator, you the destroyer, you who sustain and make an end,
Who in sunlight dance among the birds and the children at their play,
Who at midnight dance among corpses in the burning grounds,
You Shiva, you dark and terrible Bhairava,
You Suchness and Illusion, the Void and All Things,
    You are the lord of life, and therefore I have brought you flowers;
You are the lord of death, and therefore I have brought you my heart-
This heart that is now your burning ground.
Ignorance there and self shall be consumed with fire.
That you may dance, Bhairava, among the ashes.
That you may dance, Lord Shiva, in a place of flowers,
    And I dance with you.”

As a scientist, atheist and materialist, I think the nataraja is one of the most beautiful and poignant spiritual symbols. As Huxley said here it’s completely compatible with science and rings so true in so many dimensions. I see truth, emotion, math, entropy, time, all represented here.

The modern day science of quantum physics/mechanics etc totally destroys Atheism and true spirituality totally obliterates it.

You are not an Atheist. You adhere to lord Shiva 🌙 and his 🦧 monkey-god.
In essence, you choose Shiva 🌙 over YHWH , whether you Admit this or Not.

This TH-cam presentation on the symbolic meaning of the Dancing Shiva by Aldous Huxley was fascinating, thank you. I'm wondering if the ordinary people of all castes in the country of India contemplate and or meditate? My question is sincere. I have been practicing Transcendental meditation since 1973 and made a living as a dance teacher. All 4 of my grandparents came from Greece. I had the wonderful opportunity to live and work on the island of Rhodes, Greece for over 20 years. I made many observations of the society there and made comparisons with Greek Americans and with my experiences in Thailand for a little over a month, a half day in Kowloon, Hong Kong, a half day in Penang, Malaysia and 3 days in Singapore. Humbling hospitality was the most uniquely common characteristic in all these places. I also observed parallels in religious practices, in particular the practice of veneration. In Greece I saw the monotheism of Christianity as a variation of polytheism with the veneration of myriads of saints and angels. Days long festivals with a big kettle of fire boiling stew, was shared with everyone both local and foreign. Some how this seems very similar to things I have read about the "ancients". Every where I have been outside of America I was humbled by the sharing of food or drink, even a simple glass of water from a poor family in Kowloon. I have a feeling that this is true every where on Earth. Sincerely, Eustathios

To Love Shiva is finding Self in the Universe and the Universe in the Self. One can't love Shiva as something outside one's own self or the Universe. There is no Me and Shiva. The only way is to find HIM is Within and as everything and in everything. SHIVA IS EVERYTHING MANIFEST AND UNMANIFEST.

shiva is in the circle surrounded by a certain number of little fires that form a circle his hands and feet point to certain flames while he has 4 tentacles that point and touch the circle . this dance is a dance of numbers, i think shiva is giving his signature how yo find him her hem with math

It's in the fibonacci sequence.. it all points to everything and nothing, life and death, joy and suffering. Darkness within the flame, flame within the darkness. I am nothing. I am good, I am evil, I am wise. I am everything; 0 1 1 2 3 the first 5 numbers of primordial creation. The 6 of man and 7 of God in unity of will is 8 and 13.

It's very important to understand this metaphorically and conceptually. Shiva or God has no form , is beyond all the manifestations of itself .
That little statue dancing is not Shiva

Is shivas dance metaphoric for the earths tilt which causes cataclysmic events ultimately leading to destruction and rebirth as the earth cleanses or purges itself.

I like how you started as a question yet you were enlightened halfway and eventually made it a comprehensive, scientific statement.
