same thing I was taught with my ball handling, losing the ball emphasizes a harder dribble, the harder the dribble the faster any move. A lot of ppl in these chats may not have played at high enough levels to realize that
dribble hard in practice and lose the ball. If you never lose the ball in practice and you lose it in a game it means you dont practice hard enough. Simple.
This is the first time I encounter someone saying "Good! Way to lose the ball" on a drill. I like it. This is a great drill right here. Thanks for sharing!
Love this boom 1-2 step technique for pull up jumpers so much I watched it 3-4 times over, and I will be implementing this into my drills. Thanks coaches! Curated to our basketball community.
I follow about 6 Bball channels & this is the most useful & effective move I've picked up from TH-cam. My shot speed has improved so much that it's faster than my brain. I consciously Boom the ball & after practicing it for a week, the rest just follows. I'm just watching the ball swish thru the net. I've never had a consistent fade away jumper, but I use the Boom 1-2 have no problem getting my shot high & far enough. I'm way undersized (165cm), so the pull-up almost never works for me, but I find the Boom freezes the defender for a split second & with a quick 1-2 backward, far right or left it's easy to get off a fast high arching accurate shot without a lot of conscious effort. Thanks so much for this video, very well made.
At my first session as an observing coach at a PGC camp, the staff proved to me that his works. I had been taught and had always taught the early pickup and to never let the ball "ride up." You can tell the difference live, but it is really obvious on slo-mo video.
I love finding clips like this on youtube. Some of them are cheesy but this one isnt. Real ballers can always tell when the person coaching/teaching knows what theyre talking about
freeze your finish is great!! i normally do exactly what he said arms down and walk backwards. freeze your finish is good for dribble pull. cant really do that on my fadeaway but helps my groove shot!
Outstanding drill. Helps develope hand strength and ball handling. Use it a couple times a week, you can see the improvement. They also carry it over to games.
1.) Progression #1: Boom 1-2 (the last part of your jump-shot that should always be the same groove part or consistent last part): Quickly do a power dribble up through hands seamless with raising hands to shoot jump shot. Short & choppy steps to create maximum space between defender (don't step into your defender's hands) . Always dip your inside shoulder when holding ball with both hands right before you boom dribble & raise up to shoot to look like your continuing to drive & create more space for jump shot. Follow-through always. 2.) Progression #2: 2 hard dribbles that cover lots of ground then Boom 1-2 like above. 3.) Progression #3: Boom 1-2 in Transition (multiple long dribbles with Boom 1-2 at end).
Great video. Players really underestimate that power dribble--it sets up sooooo many moves, and what you've shown here is a secret to a VERY quick set or jump shot. Well done.
It's a sign that you're dribbling hard enough. The harder you dribble the quicker and more efficient you are and the harder it is for the defender to react. At first you'll lose the ball a lot, but as you practice this drill more, you'll become better.
My varsity coach says the same thing about losing the ball and pushing yourself, its not complete bs if u think about it. And those two small quick steps will allow you to get your shot of faster which is key especially in a pull up jumpshot.
Yo. I cannot believe this works! Haha. Oh my gosh.. I'm so thankful lol. Tried these drills earlier this morning.. Then, my friend I play with assisted me & told me to jump higher... Next thing you know we went to the park we always go to.. Then, BAM! #Buckets! Hahahahha jk. It was working already 5 hours from doing drills. Just got home for those fun pick up games. Played 21 to end the night & my friend was sure he was gonna block the jumper & I thought too.. But, it still went it. WOAT. xD Awesomeness. Going to share this to my friends & I'll do more drills. I feel so blessed right now ahahha. Nice peeps at the court, cool games. Pointed 1 finger to the sky after a fake to lay-up.. Praise Jesus! All glory to God!!!! #TeamJesus yo. #Sameteam #Alreadyfly :) God bless all! Jesus saves.. :) John 3:16! First: this 1-2 step, which is a quick almost hop-like motion; second, developing the last dribble and last 2 steps using this gives the player the confidence and ability to make his shot anywhere on the court. The shooting form is for you to work on in your practice (perhaps that could've been better explained in the video). As far as whether it works, I have several players, as young as 14 yrs old, and one a 17 yr old who went to PGC w/me this summer, and this works VERY well for them.
Very good video! Thank you! I've noticed this is how a lot of nba players do it. I've always believed the pull up is the most important off dribble shot.
he makes a living coaching on a professional level, his students demonstrate success, that means his shit is working, so , for all the people on here talking all that funny stuff, get your negative ass out of here, most of these comments that are negative are comming from people that never played on a higher level
This video really helped me out thanks so much. i think its one of the main reasons i made varsity bball in 9th grade. im not an explosive player but my jump shot is what makes me good and this helped so much thanks!
i kind of agree, what kind of coach wants you to be losing the ball during practice? it always needs to be in control, not bounce it so hard you lose control of it
What a video, I have a disability so I can only use one hand to play basketball, but this was an amazing video that I really want to incorporate into my game. You have a new subscriber and God Bless.
Besides that one of the greatest shooters in the game of basketball did talked about it in lengthen. You as Coach neglected in video - timing of catching and releasing, it could be one of two, but I do assume it on Coach behalf he never mentioned it. Besides that nice quality video with nice drilling, and great reminder to those who already doing it right. Thank you.
not in a game, but in practice this is fine; doing it in practice teaches you how to actually catch the ball on it's upward bounce and taking that momentum into your shot, instead of stopping the dribble at the waist, then having to pull the ball up into your shot motion. The idea is to make the drill tougher than game situations, then when the situation happens, you're only reacting, not thinking, and that helps make your shot quicker.
It's to teach you to pound it hard at the beginning, and once you do it enough you know how to control it so that you don't lose it. If you're being conservative at the beginning and worried about losing the ball, you won't develop a quick and powerful shot. hope that makes sense.
Its still shock me just how a number of people have no idea about Spovelax Training Program (look on google search engine) despite the fact that many people improve their skills using it. Thanks to my personal friend who told me about this. I have improve my skills.
Lose the ball as for while in practice........ then you get use to it, get the motion down, and control the dribble better over time. never did he say lose the ball in game. this is for practice practice practice.
I have a problem i can't shoot the new 3PT in Europe im always too short, but the old one's that are lil bit longer than NCAA i always swish them but if i try to put more strength my shooting form isn't good, what should i do?
Hey,is it necessary to look at the rim before taking a jump shot or is there some kinda "used to feeling" when u practise jump shots. So one eventually doesnt even need to see the rim before shooting .this could help alot at clutch times, but is it recommended to do so?
Great video and teaching points. But, why dont more coaches talk about eyes during drills? The demo kid had his eyes on the floor during every rep. We tell our kids "eyes middle".
me if you try to boom into your shot without stopping the ball your not really stopping your east to west movement of the ball. if you step into your shot pocket it can be good however.
lmao to the people who are saying the "pound the ball hard" is wrong because you'll lose it. You SHOULD pound it hard when you are practicing so you wouldnt lose it. Nice drill btw, cant wait to try this.
hop is actually slower and can be timedm, by the defender, when shooting of the dribble. the 1-2 allows for better balance and makes the defense react as if you are driving...if done properly. off the catch, the hop may be slightly faster
so true. just study the greats, pick apart their moves and then put it to work in practice and then in games. the key is to figure out what works for you and not follow some bs catchphrase. these guys are killing me with 'boom 12' n lose the ball
Follow it if you know you lost your balance on the shot. If you know somethings wrong with the mechanics of your shot, you could hustle back to get the rebound.
Boom the ball does help, when you boom you kinda create an image that you are drive very hard to the basket in the defenders mind, and then he/she will definitely back off a little, and nobody in this world can jump to block or even contest the shot when moving backwards. If you have a small slow dribble, you ain't selling the drive, plus you ain't getting the ball to the shooting pocket fast enough which result a slow release, and eventually a contested shot.
I've really mastered the losing of the ball!
same thing I was taught with my ball handling, losing the ball emphasizes a harder dribble, the harder the dribble the faster any move. A lot of ppl in these chats may not have played at high enough levels to realize that

Great drill. Emphasizes that last step that so many hoopers struggle to do correctly and quick enough.
Love this boom 1-2 step technique for pull up jumpers so much I watched it 3-4 times over, and I will be implementing this into my drills. Thanks coaches! Curated to our basketball community.

Thanks for the feedback! When did you first come to PGC?
@@PGC_Basketball Thanks! My first visit was with my son at Oglethorpe for Playmaker 2 in May 2018.
The point of losing the ball is to practice dribbling it hard so you wont lose it, duh. If you keep practicing dribbling hard, you wont lose it.
After watching the video, Now i'm very confident

"Lose the ball FREQUENTLY"
What a good instructor.

im loving it!

Great teachings yo there are a lot of street ballers like myself that need the fundamentals.
I like this vid. This is a drill you can practice by yourself and it can develop your pull up game which is a lost art in today's game.
Great video, will work on this! - The shooter in the video has quite impressing left/right co-ordination!
the ball handling moves and these closing moves gives me a huge package
he makes a living coaching on a professional level, his students demonstrate success, that means his shit is working, so , for all the people on here talking all that funny stuff, get your negative ass out of here, most of these comments that are negative are comming from people that never played on a higher level

This transformed my shot. Opens up ur game tremendously if u can dibble already. They gonna start doubling teaming now. Boom open man 😉
Wow...now that's an effective way to develop a game ready jump shot. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for making this vid. really helped my shooting in games. Waiting for more videos like this in the future.
Very very effective!ove only done this for less than a week but i can now do it effectively in an actual game
i kind of agree, what kind of coach wants you to be losing the ball during practice? it always needs to be in control, not bounce it so hard you lose control of it
What a video, I have a disability so I can only use one hand to play basketball, but this was an amazing video that I really want to incorporate into my game. You have a new subscriber and God Bless.
Great progression in a very effective shooting technique!
This is awesome, going to take this pull up to the court !
Wow! I was actually doing a variation of this today. Gonna try this out tomorrow.
Chris Paul says the same thing about dribbling the ball hard and look at his handles.....
I love all these funny ass names for basic stuff. Guess that is how you have to package it to get paid.
Besides that one of the greatest shooters in the game of basketball did talked about it in lengthen. Thank you.
Thanks for the great tutorial, really reminds me of Carmelo Anthony when you emphasize the hard dribbles.
GREAT video. Articulate and organized. Thanks PGC
As a ball player and then in games you take a small step back into your comfort level so you can control your boom 1-2 dribble
Great work! Helped me alot in games. Great vid! I hope there will be alot more of vids like these one.
good job! easy to learn and useful

Ima work on this, unstoppable move!
I like it. But actually I get used to long step pull-up jump shot. Shot step or long step jump shot, which is better?
Thank you coach
westbrook is a master at the pullup...watch video of him against the lakers this year to see how he completely picked that defence apart
Best tutorial I've watched in a while,
are there any video for dunking the right way without getting injured?
great video... keep them coming
these are great training tips
It's to teach you to pound it hard at the beginning, and once you do it enough you know how to control it so that you don't lose it. If you're being conservative at the beginning and worried about losing the ball, you won't develop a quick and powerful shot. hope that makes sense.
Excellent Video. Abo right now. Thank you very very much !!!
great vid. but why do you switch cameras and not look at the camera you switched to.

Lose the ball as for while in practice........ then you get use to it, get the motion down, and control the dribble better over time. never did he say lose the ball in game. this is for practice practice practice.
this is truly deadly, the only problem is, once you master it, passing feels silly, so you gotta learn your game along with your personal skills
Good for the power forward, more of an aggressive feel.
This really helped coach thanks
Great job coach.
Awesome teaching coach
You are a great coach
makes sense. good video.
Great video now I got that BOOM BOOM POW !!!
I have a problem i can't shoot the new 3PT in Europe im always too short, but the old one's that are lil bit longer than NCAA i always swish them but if i try to put more strength my shooting form isn't good, what should i do?
Sick video learning alot
Great video....thanks.
when can i use this move ? I am a beginner and i play outside.. is it always work without sound of sneakers ?

Thanks for the tips
Great video and teaching points. But, why dont more coaches talk about eyes during drills? The demo kid had his eyes on the floor during every rep. We tell our kids "eyes middle".
love this channel ..
Man the volunteer is good :)
Boom Boom Boom! Let's break it down!
me if you try to boom into your shot without stopping the ball your not really stopping your east to west movement of the ball. if you step into your shot pocket it can be good however.
When you boom the ball you get the ball into your shooting motion faster and therefore can get it off whenever you want.
Great vid!!!
I get it now. If you don't cover distance but the defender expects you to, you create space and give yourself a better chance at the shot.
do i have to be that close to the rim or i can be anywhere i like?
is the player you are using for examples kyle coston?
Great video. If you don't lose the ball you're not going hard enough
lmao to the people who are saying the "pound the ball hard" is wrong because you'll lose it. You SHOULD pound it hard when you are practicing so you wouldnt lose it. Nice drill btw, cant wait to try this.
Thankx helped a lot!!
I used to use the one two step but the greatest shooters are jump stop shooters who stop on two feet.
thanks for your video is helping me alot
very helpful. Thanks
Great tips
Great video
shooting of a hop is faster than a 1/2
hop is actually slower and can be timedm, by the defender, when shooting of the dribble. the 1-2 allows for better balance and makes the defense react as if you are driving...if done properly. off the catch, the hop may be slightly faster
Thats what people said in 1243 bro
what do you mean by 2-1 instead of 1-2? just curious.
One question, Aren't you meant to keep your head up when bouncing the ball prior taking the jumper?
so true. just study the greats, pick apart their moves and then put it to work in practice and then in games. the key is to figure out what works for you and not follow some bs catchphrase. these guys are killing me with 'boom 12' n lose the ball

why is it so dark in the gym?
this drill is genius
