- If youre thinking of getting into flying rc helicopters, then this video might help. Its an honest review from the perspective of a rookie pilot.
I know there are alot of options out there of which we start by discussing whether to go big or go small. These two 'monster' micro helis seem to be very serious contenders. This video is less about watching them performing crazy maneuvers ( there are loads of those great videos already) this is about trying to help you decide between which of these models might suit you best.

I really like your videos. You convey a lot of great, practical information. The only suggestion I have is with your audio. There are a lot of hard, acoustically reflective surfaces in the room where you do your indoor videos. I'd suggest some kind of sound dampening, like drapes or get a lapel mic. Keep up the great work!

While prancing about, also saw there’s now a K110s and wanted to know if you have a video comparing it with the K110 or if you could share the main differentiating piece between the two models; as this is my first RC Helicopter so I’d like to buy one that’s as recent as possible so i use it for much longer without needing an upgrade.
@@1anre or send the newer version is slightly more solid with improved servos= better quality, but the original is still a very good option
I have the xk k110 and liked it so much i bought a 2nd one for when i wear the fist one out. Powerful for 3.7v

Thank you for the comparison. I went with the Blade Nano s3 based on this review. My Blade 230S Safe is on it's way because my confidence is way higher now.

I liked my nano so much I went up to the 230 but I was very unsatisfied with that, blades are too fragile, too closed loop and too pricey to repair. switched to GS legends and never looked back. that said I still love flying inside my motorhome and I'm looking for an alternative to my multiple nano s3 choppers
I own both of these helis and i love and fly the crap outa both. I do most my practicing with the nano s3 since it has the panic button to save you when you lose control. That has helped me be able to practice 3d flight without crashing hardly. But the xk does perform much better and faster.

I appreciate the details. Started 3d with the K110 after just having flown a trex 450 around basic flights. Thought it crashes cheaper and breaks less. Okay its cheaper and does take some beating.
Bought two k110. I hate the main gear and featheeing shaft and tail boom. Alway so much broken and to repair. So small stuff and a pain to fix. Had parts ordered for 400 bucks on the side. Moved up to the Omphobby M1 and havent touched the k110 since. Performs way better and stable. Way less repairs. More durable. Can advise everyone to get the M1 as the first 3d micro heli.
Crikey, moving to the m1 is brave. To be honest I have a few 110’s and feel safe trying stuff because they are so cheap, maybe I should make the move to the M1. Thanks for your advice 👍

Using a micro to learn is the hard way. I just play with micros when I can't go a place where I can fly something bigger.
I say, learn on the simulator. Fly models of large helis. Fly them in full 3D setup and just keep doing it until you quit crashing. Then do the outdoor learning with a 450 (or bigger).
My main birds are a TREX-800 and TREX-550X. I also have a couple XK110s and an Eachine E160. My biggest complaint with things like XK110 is how sloppy the head is. If you're dead set on learning (and not just playing) on a micro, getting at least an E160 will make it much easier. Flying the little ones just wears me out. And they don't really do what you ask, you're fighting them the whole time.
Keep the headspeed down to something reasonable and an OMP would also be much easier to learn on. I always say "Spend more time on simulator and less on parts. Fly as big as you can afford, it's just easier." The 450 class (325mm blades) has been the bang-for-buck leader for years before the modern micro came along. I still believe new pilots are better to start with those and then come back to micros as "toys" later, once they've learned.
Anyway, time for me to hit the sim some more. I have some new (to me) 3D moves that I am just about confident enough to fly in meat space. I like to be really comfortable before risking an 800 on a maneuver. But I know, if I can do it on the sim reliably without crashing, I can do it for it real. It is the cheap and low stress way to learn, and fly nicer stuff.
If I was starting new today, I would start with a TREX 470LM. (Metal head and belt drive tail). I'd pound the RealFlight simulator until I was ready to fly it.
That 380mm blade size makes a pretty affordable helicopter fly really "big", especially coupled with modern electronics.
Scott Hurst sincere thanks for all that quality advice, it makes so much sense. My only concern is high cost of replacement parts for bigger helis, but I agree completely that the e180 or omp’s are great places to really get going. Many thanks again
@@rcpilots1291 I just fly like a wuss. I don't bring stuff from the sim to outside until it's super solid. It's been nearly 200 flights since I've replaced anything on my 550X.
That 450-470 class (325-380mm blade) has pretty reasonable parts prices. If you don't bash it around like a micro, you shouldn't need that many anyway. Fly the sim, fly the sim, fly the sim... crashes are free there.
I like that the XK is cheaper, but as I will be predominately flying indoors I'm learning more towards the Nano. Does the extra 65mm make a big difference?

@@rcpilots1291 I meant in terms of limiting its practical indoor use, but yes a longer tail would increase stability in wind outdoors for sure.
Are you able to invert it when using the stock transmitter that comes with the RTF model?
Yes, the stick radio works fine
The xk 100also has a lot more power and as long as you hit the throttle cut before dumping it,it can handle a bashing
You are absolutely correct, the k110 is a strong and capable first helli
I don't have the Nano, I have the XK110, Blade MCPX bl version 1 ( now is version 2) and Blade MCPS. The XK110 I can flip and hover upside down very easy. It is very stable platform. Blade MCPX BL same as XK110, stable platform and easy to flip and hover upside down. The Blade MCPS cannot hold tail when flip. Also upright or upside the Blade MCPS gyro not stable when flipping or hovering. The XK110 is very enjoyable for basic flips and hovering upside down.

I just bought the BNF version by mistake. Is there any way of controlling this heli with my taranis instead of buying another transmitter? is there a multi protocol module i could use? cheers
I think you can bind it , if you have an open tx transmitter. But the xk x6 radio is also very cheap buy

I had the V977 before it evolved into the K110s. I just bought the Nano s3. There is no compairison. The v977 won in every scenario.
Looks like I wasted money on the nano s3 when I should have bought the newer K110s.
I’m sorry to hear that, is funny how different models suit different people- just like you, I found the nano pretty hard to get comfortable with
the xk is much better---- a good bl outrunner motor that doesn't get hot compere to the nano brushed underpower motor that's get hot and loose power after 20-40 batteries ------------xk110 feel much more connected to your fingers due to the lack off freedom in the connections of the servos and the rotor mechanism------and much more power
the only up side to the nano is that if it heat you it will hurt much less
the xk110 leveling up side down in safe 6g mode can help a lot learning inverted flying
Hi, big thanks for that information and advice. I’m a big fan of the xk also, but I know others swear by the blade. I suppose each had its own as appeal 👍
hi mate -i was one of those blade only and what a wonderful company is horizon for the last 15 years until 6 month ago when i bought the yx zn black Howk with a transmitter futaba compatible that @@rcpilots1291 opened the opportunity for more Chinis heli -bought 4 more ----omp1 evo----yxzn f120-
these are 125gr 30cm helis with direct drive and huge motor and the xk110s and xk123
after the ncpx and the mcpbl2 flying the xk110 is 50% better on all aspects-and it is 50% cheaper then the mcpbl2-------------no more blade for me -next
