This song no matter who sings it is a reflection of what I have been going through in my recovery and letting go of the people who never really cared about me. It hurts, but it was necessary for my mental health. Thank you for being real.
I love this song. It's strangely the first music video I heard after arriving in Japan. I didn't like the original but I love the johnny Cash version. His older voice fills it with a greater depth.
Your Reaction Was My Reaction When When I First Saw This Video It Was Very Sad But Very Fitting For Johnny He Got To Say His Goodbye With June, I Love This Video It's So Deep & Honest, I've Seen A Lot Of Reactions To This Video But I Can Honestly Say You Had The Most Emotional & Impactful Reaction Of All. You Are A Good Person!
Try the studio version of Dylan's 'knocking on heaven's door'. Also... 'Higher Love' by Steve Winwood. Also... Any of Celine Dion's top songs. She can sing like no other. Literally... Also... 'Mister Bojangles' by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band... 'In the Air Tonight' by Phill Collins... None of them are 'moving' like 'Hurt', but some are pretty and you might like them. Thanks also for your video on the Star Spangled Banner. Thank you for becoming a citizen and loving our country and its freedom. And thank you for your beautiful reaction 'Hurt' by poor Johnny Cash.
To me this is the most important musical recording in American history. A once in a lifetime song written by a once in a lifetime songwriter and then covered by a once in a lifetime artist at the end of his life.
Johnny lived a life. He did great things and he made bad mistakes. What you hear in his voice during this song can't be faked. It's the sound of experience that only comes with time. Experience is, as Oscar Wilde said, one thing you can't get for nothing.
The amazing thing is to consider that at this age Johnny's voice has deteriorated from its greatness. He is just quietly singing without any embellishments in a narrow vocal range and still produces one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard.
Yeah the emotion in his voice is so visceral, and you can hear the changes age has made to his once more perfect voice, but the imperfections only make the song better. This song has so many damn layers its insane
@@soulsnatcher5408 Can't believe it was that long ago, the emotional part is that this was filmed in February 2003, June Died in May and he followed her in September
"Hurt" was originally a Nine Inch Nails song, written by Trent Reznor for the band's second studio album, The Downward Spiral (1994). When Johnny Cash first asked Reznor for permission to cover the song, Reznor was flattered and ultimately gave his approval, but he had concerns that the idea "sounded a bit gimmicky." those concerns were put to rest, however, when Reznor saw the music video for Cash's cover of the song, at which point Reznor became a big fan of Cash's cover. In Reznor's words: "I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. [I felt like] I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore... It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning -- different, but every bit as pure."
JOHNNY CASH CAN MAKE A ROUGH DIAMOND INTO A SHINING PEARL AND A GLITTERING WONDERFUL GEM STONE ...HE HAS DONE THAT WITH OTHER SONGS TOO.... IT IS PART OF HIS MUSICAL TALENTS.... RIP JOHNNY...

Three months after the song was released, his wife passed and he was truly alone. Seven months later, he joined her in heaven.
He took this song which was already amazing and turned it into a goodbye that outshone the sun. Nobody is ever going to cover this song again knowing what they'd be compared with.
The part about trying to kill your memories but you still remember everything. Years in the military I can relate so much to this. I just want to forget, but I learned to live with the memories.
Wow. I have listened to Mr Cash sing this (and other songs with deep meaning) many times in my seven decades but it is always so great to see and hear how it effects someone else. I really enjoy watching reactions from creators who are real, like this young lady. I appreciate the raw emotion and feelings that were expressed here. Thank you for this. I wish good health, happiness and all the very best to you and your families!
Your reaction is about on par with mine, I can't watch it without tearing up, 12 years of addiction, regret, broken relationships and self hatred. I'm a year sober now and doing better, but it still hits like a truck. Really makes you appreciate what you have though.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments :) still a lot of issues to work on, mental health and finding true peace is a never ending battle, but still sober (almost a year and 5 months) , currently sitting outside playing guitar with a sun shower after a workout and finishing an assessment :) pleasure in the small things, practise gratitude everyone. And if anyone out there is struggling with addiction! You got this, I know every day it's a nightmare but do not give up, there truly is light at the end, even if it takes years, every day you get up and try is a success! Keep striving to be a little better every day
Irina, you never have to apologize for showing such deep feelings. The woman in many of the photos in this video are of his wife June Carter Cash. He lost her not long before he himself passed away. This was likely one of his last songs and I know that the loss of his wife June (his soulmate if there ever was such a thing as a soulmate) made this song even more meaningful to him and that is why he was able to put so much emotion into it. He would gladly have given away everything he owned to have her back. Love your videos and I am sure that I speak for many people here, we are glad you have come over to the USA and we hope you learn to love it here as much as we love having you here.
Hello Irina. I have seen this video and heard this song a few times. Today was the first time I almost cried because you started crying. I don’t like to see you cry but I know you have a sensitive soul. Don’t change.
it always gets me when he touches the piano at the end. I've seen so many people near the end of their life do that. That tactile sensation means so much to our understanding of being part of the world
Johnny is a true legend and icon. I love his Hurt cover because it makes me reflect on my life, and all the pain that I've experienced. And my heart can't stop breaking when I hear it. RIP Johnny Cash.
Life is hard. We all have weaknesses, we all have insecurities, we all make mistakes. Johnny gave us this song as a reflection on his own life, where he confronted the fact that his past was far from perfect, but he also showed in the imagery of Christ that he believed there is life after death. He believed in mercy, in repentance, and in forgiveness, although it's hard to feel those sometimes when we're in the midst of trials and sin. I'm so glad Johnny covered this song as one of the last songs he ever sung, and to you for reacting to it honestly and openly. Never take for granted those around you.
Though this song is very sad and it can be hard to comprehend the weight of it, Johnny Cash left us in the best way possible. He had a very successful career and left us with this extremely powerful swan song that will guarantee that his legacy is never forgotten. I don’t know many artists that had the opportunity to say goodbye in such an honest and heartfelt way. David Bowie with Lazarus is another good example.
I love this song and I have never come close to feeling emotional while listening to it. I gotta be honest Irina, I got a little teary-eyed seeing you cry during this reaction.
Showed this to my 75 year old grandfather yesterday. He was a big Cash fan back int he day, but had never heard the song before the day I showed it to him. He listened to it quietly with tears in his eyes. After the song was over he looked up at me and said "This was his goodbye song" My grandfather followed all of Johnny Cash's songs, lifestyle and never knew he was hurting this bad inside. He is an old war veteran and I have never seen a song or anything else melt that man like this did. Johnny Cash you will never be forgotten, and I hope you eventually forgave yourself for the mistakes you made. You were loved by millions, and still are to this day thanks to this amazing piece of music history.
I can tell you really have a hart. In a world that's lacking this it good to see this . Johny was truly one of a kind.a great man and artist. I'm new to you but I see your a real human .
I dont know too many people who have NOT cried to this song...To me when he closes the piano at the end it represents the closing of a coffin....R.I.P. Johnny...we all miss you....
What’s great about this song is it transcends religions, languages and cultures. I’ve seen people from every corner of the Earth cry when they hear and understand this song. That’s why Trent Reznor (the original artist) basically gave this song to Johnny Cash and said it was his song now. A literal work of art that will outlive time.
Well if it’s any comfort Irina most people are very moved by this song and video. It’s a really remarkable work of art. Your reaction was wonderful and natural 👏
That was a sweet heartfelt reaction. Johnny Cash sang many songs about God and though he battled many sins in his life he believed the old saying that “Only one life, it will soon be passed, only what’s done for Christ will last.“
This song was originally from the band nine inch nails but johnny cash did it and the lead singer absolutely loved Johnny's version more so he gave the song to johnny. Please don't apologize, it is perfectly ok to feel the music and cry. This is why i love watching your reactions to music! You feel the music and what the lyrics mean. You are absolutely AMAZING irina ❤
This is such a great reaction! Great job. It's amazing how music is truly a universal language. This song is so beautiful no matter where you're born. Thank you for the video!
It was interesting to see how the song really got to you. Music can be powerful. When he closed the piano cover, it was almost like he was closing his own coffin. He lived a fascinating life and has lots of other songs worth reacting to. Picking out a light-hearted Johnny Cash song might be a good idea to balance this one out. A Boy Named Sue is a great light-hearted song.
Your reaction to this song was beautiful your emotions really amplified the meaning of these words I can’t lie it made me very emotional as well watching with you. Keep up the great work and I hope that all is well for you 🙏
I have seen many reactions to this song. Yours really struck me as genuine and deep. I loved Johnny Cash as a child. It was so sad to see him go with so much regret..
I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan, & I loved your reaction. Never be sorry for your tears my dear. Especially with this one. If you really want to have a better idea about this song, watch "Walk the Line". It's pretty accurate (embellishments are at a minimum) to Johnny's life. Would take some editing because of copyright, but makes this song so much deeper for his life. Some background on this song though. The video was recorded in Feb 2003. June Carter Cash (in the video on the stairs) passed away in May 2003, shortly after this video's release. Johnny passed away in Sept 2003, this was his last recorded music video. While Trent Reznor wrote the song with heroin addiction for the lyrics ("the needle tears a hole, the old familiar sting"), Johnny had been an addict to (primarily) methamphetamines & alcohol.
When I watch this, I feel sorry for him, but compared to me, he lived a great life. Not a empire of dirt. I, on the other hand has not lived as I should/wanted to. Not many accomplisments. I just turned 50 and try to see the good things in life. But being depressed and have anxiety every day is hard. But I try. Hope you all get the life you need.
Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. I didn't know of this song till a couple years ago, it's probably Johnny's best. Songs like this (and others such as "Comfortably Numb" or "Time") have more meaning the older you get. And if someone doesn't cry watching this, they probably don't have a heart or a soul.
@@RussianReactionReviews my pleasure - thanks for bearing your soul, too. Just curious - do you know of the Russian group "Leonid & Friends" ? They are amazing, doing cover versions of songs by Chicago, Steely Dan, etc.

I am sorry for your loss. I know, sounds hollow. I lost my dad recently, my mom a couple years before. All I can say is keep up the fight. We are all here for a reason, even if loved ones are not with us anymore.
Beautiful reaction Irina, Johnny Cash is timeless, he can transcend his own genre. This song is awe inspiring to say the least. You’d love The Sound of Silence by Disturbed if you haven’t seen the TH-cam video already. It’s a song originally sung by Paul Simon. He completely nails it and goes beyond his genre, metal.
Great reaction ; the only country singer I have any respect for . This song is sung the way I feel many times as a depression and suicide survivor , he sings it like his being is dying and that ability is talent Beautiful Irina
Johnny Cash is one of the few singers that can speak to multiple generations. This song’s lyrics are pretty deep. I know it’s not his original song but still. Sometimes we don’t appreciate the people around us enough. I definitely have taken your message to heart and made sure I tell my Close family how much I appreciate them. it’s alright to cry Irina, this year has definitely had its ups and downs hasn’t it? Hang in there Irina. ♥️
@@RussianReactionReviews Your very welcome Irina🙂 Sometimes in life you just have to have a little bit of faith and keep moving forward. You probably know that better than me. I’m sure Montana has helped you a lot this year. I know my dog has got me through some tough times.
His daughter was heartbroken after this song, because she commented to her dad that "it sounded like you're saying goodbye, Daddy", to which he replied, "I was, baby." He recorded this a few months after his wife, June, passed away, and 7 months before he himself passed away.
Johnny Cash was. A Great Country Music legend, one of the great songwriters of our generation, although this a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song. This was his last song just before he passed away. Your reaction was honest and real which makes this a very good video. Keep up the good work!!!😎👍👍👍
Thank you so much for your kind comments I really appreciate your content and the person you are keep doing what you're doing you are so amazing have a great day
*Agree, the original is much better.* Johnny's voice sounds flat, you can tell he was about to croak soon. I'm happy Trent showed some respect for his elders and allowed JC to cover it. Made JC relevant again on his way out the door; after being dormant for years.
Hi Gabe, I noticed in the comment section a lot of people keep asking me to check that version of it,, I will have to take a look at it.. thanks for watching with me
I always say Trent Reznor was meant to write this song and Johnny Cash was meant to sing it. The original version by Nine Inch Nails is great. This video is so powerful because this was his last one. His wife June was worried and came down to check on him. That was her in the video. She passed shortly after this video was made and he passed not long after.
Video was recorded in February of 2003. Then June died in May of 2003. Then Johnny died in September of 2003. One of their children asked him, is he saying goodbye in this song. Johnny replied back, Yes.
Sometimes that happens to soulmates particular if they have been together most of their lives. When my Grandmother died in 98, my Grandfather died a month later. When my Auntie died at 75, her husband died 3 weeks later. Quite simply people can die from a broken heart, as some bereaved partner lose the will to live.

Crying is a natural reaction to something so beautiful and full of pain.
the fact your crying means your human, never forget that surge of emotion rising up inside you, thats what humanity feels like
Thank you Frank
Thanks John
After dozens and dozens and dozens of reviews, I think that you provide the best response and respect to Johnny and his intent.
it always gets me when he touches the piano at the end. I've seen so many people near the end of their life do that. That tactile sensation means so much to our understanding of being part of the world
It was the last time he played it too.
it's a song about life and it touche a lot of people because we recognize ourselves in this song . Thank you Johnny
Johnny is a true legend and icon. I love his Hurt cover because it makes me reflect on my life, and all the pain that I've experienced. And my heart can't stop breaking when I hear it. RIP Johnny Cash.
I think, if you don't cry during this song, you might not be human... Good human test!
This song makes a tear roll down my cheek i feel his personal pain and grief in a song that is played beautifully
Well said !!
It made my cry year's ago... and again tonight.. Knowing who he is makes it even deeper!! Thanks!
This song always gonna stay i my heart.. Thank you for watching, I appreciate tha
I love this song and I have never come close to feeling emotional while listening to it. I gotta be honest Irina, I got a little teary-eyed seeing you cry during this reaction.
Uh I cry a lot with this song.
Me too
Showed this to my 75 year old grandfather yesterday.
Thank you so much for that very truthfully emotional reaction. We can all learn something from his decades long musical career.
Thank you for watching with me
Have a blessed day today
I can tell you really have a hart. In a world that's lacking this it good to see this . Johny was truly one of a kind.a great man and artist. I'm new to you but I see your a real human .
I dont know too many people who have NOT cried to this song...To me when he closes the piano at the end it represents the closing of a coffin....R.I.P. Johnny...we all miss you....
Well said Rick
You are a beautiful lady, with a beautiful soul. Never be sorry for that.
You are not alone. This song brings tears to my eyes everytime. You can feel his pain
Beautiful song
What’s great about this song is it transcends religions, languages and cultures. I’ve seen people from every corner of the Earth cry when they hear and understand this song. That’s why Trent Reznor (the original artist) basically gave this song to Johnny Cash and said it was his song now. A literal work of art that will outlive time.
Well if it’s any comfort Irina most people are very moved by this song and video. It’s a really remarkable work of art. Your reaction was wonderful and natural 👏
Thank you Kevin I appreciate that
At the time of Johnny's passing, The song Hurt and the Video we're No 1 through out the land . What a way to go on Top .
That was a sweet heartfelt reaction. Johnny Cash sang many songs about God and though he battled many sins in his life he believed the old saying that “Only one life, it will soon be passed, only what’s done for Christ will last.“
Thank you Chris
You’re welcome, and I pray God‘s best for you.
Thank you for watching with me
They were connected that they died months apart. Shows you the strength of love.
Ahhhhh, you're 30 seconds in and have already cried and it's fantasic. You varify so many feelings that people have for this song.
Your reaction to this song was beautiful your emotions really amplified the meaning of these words I can’t lie it made me very emotional as well watching with you. Keep up the great work and I hope that all is well for you 🙏
Thank you so much
One of the best songs ever written and sung absolutely beautiful..... wow....just wow
This song always brings tears of sadness, but sometimes we need that.
Your tender heart is heartwarming...
Thank you for being a person who has so much empathy...
thank you so much
I remember hearing this song when it first came out. I was in high school and it hit me unexpectedly 😪 great song!!
its beautiful
Johnny was a great talent. No one else like him.
I have seen many reactions to this song. Yours really struck me as genuine and deep. I loved Johnny Cash as a child. It was so sad to see him go with so much regret..
You had the most authentic reaction and you know that this song was about
I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan, & I loved your reaction.
Thank you for the background and for the kind words
When I watch this, I feel sorry for him, but compared to me, he lived a great life. Not a empire of dirt. I, on the other hand has not lived as I should/wanted to. Not many accomplisments. I just turned 50 and try to see the good things in life. But being depressed and have anxiety every day is hard. But I try. Hope you all get the life you need.
Cash was the absolute master of song craft story telling and emotion the world lost a great sage when he died
Ty for watching with me.
Very touching song to watch
@@RussianReactionReviews my pleasure - thanks for bearing your soul, too. Just curious - do you know of the Russian group "Leonid & Friends" ? They are amazing, doing cover versions of songs by Chicago, Steely Dan, etc.
Hmm i don’t think so I will have to check them out
@@RussianReactionReviews great - and thanks for responding back! they toured near me a couple months ago (East Coast, US), but I was so busy that I couldn't go - try these two songs: th-cam.com/video/P_8aZZ9d_EA/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/HQdoD0R9d1w/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Charleston
Maybe the most impactful reaction I have seen to this. The emotion you showed within just the first few bars really feels like you let yourself get pulled fully in to the song's heart.
I have no one next to me I lost my wife to cancer in 2015 she fought for 9years and passed at 47
I am sorry for your loss. I know, sounds hollow.
I lost my dad recently, my mom a couple years before.
All I can say is keep up the fight.
We are all here for a reason, even if loved ones are not with us anymore.
Yeah my wig in 2015 my mom in 2016 and dad in 2018 ten days before my birthday
Loved it , love the passion and your spirit.
Dont apoligize for crying. Its very very sad. Him and his wife passed not long after this. It was like he was saying goodbye
Brilliant song and don't worry about it....... every time I see that video it rips my guts out also.
I see a few comments on here about it I will have to check it out
It's auto tuned bombastic bullshit.
Everytime you cried wanted to hug you 😢😢😭😭🤗🤗♥️♥️ new sub
Great reaction ; the only country singer I have any respect for . This song is sung the way I feel many times as a depression and suicide survivor , he sings it like his being is dying and that ability is talent
Beautiful Irina
You are a real human being, the best kind .
Thanks Shawn ❤️🥺
@@RussianReactionReviews Your very welcome Irina🙂 Sometimes in life you just have to have a little bit of faith and keep moving forward. You probably know that better than me. I’m sure Montana has helped you a lot this year. I know my dog has got me through some tough times.
I've heard this song at least 100 times and it still gets me teary eyed
His daughter was heartbroken after this song, because she commented to her dad that "it sounded like you're saying goodbye, Daddy", to which he replied, "I was, baby."
He recorded this a few months after his wife, June, passed away, and 7 months before he himself passed away.
thats so heavy :(
That was beautiful to see. Not just the video or the song, but the way it reached your heart and touched you. God bless you.
Johnny Cash was. A Great Country Music legend, one of the great songwriters of our generation, although this a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song. This was his last song just before he passed away. Your reaction was honest and real which makes this a very good video. Keep up the good work!!!😎👍👍👍
Thank you Paul
Thank you so much for your kind comments I really appreciate your content and the person you are keep doing what you're doing you are so amazing have a great day
I prefer the original "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails... It's awesome, but johnny cash covers it pretty well. 😉
*Agree, the original is much better.*
Johnny's voice sounds flat, you can tell he was about to croak soon.
I'm happy Trent showed some respect for his elders and allowed JC to cover it. Made JC relevant again on his way out the door; after being dormant for years.
Hi Gabe, I noticed in the comment section a lot of people keep asking me to check that version of it,, I will have to take a look at it.. thanks for watching with me
@@RussianReactionReviews my favorite song from nine inch nails is called "something i can never have" its not very popular, but i think ull love it 💞
I understand your reaction. I felt the same way.
We all lost something with the loss of Johnny Cash, and his last song.
You’re absolutely beautiful. Even more so in your vulnerability. Thanks for this. Well done.
Nine Inch Nails version is the original version... and the best version.
I like Johnny, but hate his cover of this song.
To each their own but I think most people are going to disagree with you on this one
@@TH-camWatcher9000 +1
its ok to cry to this video it is the best. I cry so hard every time I watch it. Johnny cash is the best.
Listen to the original by NIN (Trent Reznor) he wrote it
This cover by Cash is trash!
Oh my God I love that you are so in touch with your feelings you were emotional you’re passionate besides being absolutely beautiful angel your channel you’re amazing
Do not be sorry. Your reaction was as beautiful as you are.
Such a beautiful and raw reaction you have a beautiful soul this song also brought tears to my eyes
