And was written from the perspective of a young artist seeing the ruin that fame and success would bring him but unable to change his path. Mr. Cash sang it word for word but made it about the regret of an old man, asking if his incredible success really brought him happiness or not. After hearing this version Trent said it's no longer my song anymore. It belongs to Johnny now..
They also made a movie about his life right after he passed in 2003 called "Walk the Line" staring Joaquin Phoenix. Sadly his "House of Cash" museum shown in the video burned down a few years after he and his wife passed away. I was 11 years old when he passed away in September of 2003. I remember being in the living room of my grandparents when the news of it was reported on the national news that night.. He has a huge catalog of awesome songs that go as far back as the 1950's. I listened to him all my life. Not enough people listen to his earlier stuff that made him famous.
The random ad of music from 7:05 to 8:24 REALLY killed the video for me. I liked it till then. That ad was 40% of the length of this whole song. Felt really out of place too, like trying to market country to a hip hop crowd.

There were a couple of word changes due to Johnny’s beliefs but not many.
When Trent sings it in concert now, I see it as him covering Johnny.
