Stuart Spector is a really nice guy, I have owned half a dozen or so of his Basses. You can't go wrong with one of his Basses and he is easy to reach on the phone or email. I'm glad to see he is doing good...

Spector is absolutely fantastic. They deliver excellent quality in design, finish, and performance. They continue to be innovators that make you eager to see what's coming out next.
What I think really sets them miles ahead of their competition is customer service. They are quick to replay to every inquiry - from helping you track down parts for older models to making spot-on recommendations. I'm giving a huge thumbs-up to one guy in particular - P J Rubal, a class act and all around great human being. Go Spector!

Nice basses but when SS talks of a 'traditional rock and roll shape' in reference to his Thunderbird copy, how does that square with his beef of Warwick using his 'traditional rock and roll shape' for the Thumb?
Do you mean the Streamer? I presume it's because Gibson never saw fit to trademark the Thunderbird shape, whereas it was Ned Steinberger (ya now, the NS) who designed the body shape for Spector's basses; Warwick licensed the rights to use the body shape for some set period of time, and then decided to just go ahead and continue producing it without paying up after the original terms were over. I don't think Stu has the means or clout to chase Warwick with lawyers to keep their Streamer basses out of the country.
That's a super fuzzy version of events as I remember reading about years ago and I'm really drunk right now, so they might not be fully accurate, but I think I got the gist of the matter
Sorry yes I did mean Streamer not Thumb. Point remains though. Ok to copy as Gibson didn't trademark the shape but not ok for Warwick to continue to use the shape. I'm so interested in the legalities, it the principle of copying someone elses design and if it's ever right.
Also, now that I'm more sober, I think Warwick may have actually just made little changes to the Streamer body shape so that it wasn't a complete inch-to-inch clone of the NS body shape, in order to get around trademark issues. I would argue as well that the use of the T-bird body shape by Spector isn't quite as "serious" as Warwick running off with the NS body shape; Spector doesn't compete for the same kinds of bassists that Gibson does (a Gibson Thunderbird and Spector "X" bass have completely different electronics and completely different tone profiles), while Spector and Warwick absolutely do compete (the Spector NS basses largely use active pickups and electronics and employ high levels of construction; ditto for the Warwick Steamer basses). Gibson-to-Spector is just "copied a body shape," but Spector-to-Warwick is "complete breach of trust."
Not even the same thing, Hans Peter literally ripped off the patented NS model from Stuart and Ned who then confronted him at a show to which Hans agreed to pay a licensing fee for using it. When Spector sold to Kramer, that agreement was forgotten about and when Stuart got the company back there was an understanding in place and no licensing fee needed. Wick's while still keeping the jist of the NS shape have changed enough now over the years that a Wick is a Wick and a Spector is a Spector.
Stuart is always a class act.

Played Warwick’s for a solid decade, recently joined team Spector! You cannot find an easier playing, better sounding bass! Do yourself a favor and play a Euro LX!

But I'm talking a /lot/ of hoops, Rickenbacker doesn't really like the fact that their basses aren't worth nearly as much as they try to make people pay for them.
