    Doug is a treasure...love his energy and vibe...so happy to be doing what he does...the actual story on that '87 NS2 is hilarious...he kept showing up, checking the bass "Nope, shave this down"....come back around, he checks it out again "Nope, decrease the nut...do this, do that"....on and on it goes...then Stuart nailed it...."Yes, that's it!"..the story is out there where Dough explains it...so funny! : )
    I have loved the "Wimbish" necks on several of my NS-2's over the years!

    Well, that endorsement was totally from his heart! When you hear someone actually paid for whatever it is they're talking about, it means more than when they use whatever was shipped to 'em just before a tour!
    Doug's obviously still diggin' Spectre Basses!

    He did have an Ibanez Soundgear signature model for a quick blip of time though.

    Some time in the early 1990s I saw Wimbush in Manchester, UK doing a solo demo for Trace Elliot amps and cabs. Easily the most ferocious bass playing I'd heard to that point. In retrospect, the bass he was playing that I had thought was a Warwick was probably the 4-string Spector shown here. (The Warwick Streamer bass, introduced in 1982, seems to have been heavily 'influenced' by the Spector, which first appeared in 1977.) Whichever it was, Wimbush was head-turning. We are almost exactly the same age: made me feel very inadequate at the time.

      He did play Warwick as well in the late 80's early 90's, he played Streamers and Thumbs back in the day alongside his Spectors.

      @@uboweeg Interesting. I have a memory of seeing a 'W' on the headstock, and the body being a darker brown: but I don't know how reliable the memory is after nearly thirty years. Regardless, playing solo in a small room, he was a beast.

    One of the very best gigs I ever bootlegged in my entire 10 year bootlegging adventure, was TACKHEAD at the Mean Fiddler in London on 17 of April 1988. That gig was hard as nails! And Doug was a funk monster!

    I remember seeing Living Colour in 2002 on their “Kaleidoscope” tour, and back then Doug had an endorsement and signature bass with Ibanez. And I was paying close attention to what basses he played. They came out and started setting up their own gear, and Doug appeared with four hardshell cases. And I was going, “Let's see those Ibanez basses.”
    - The first case was opened and out came: The orange Spector and I went “Yeah, makes sense, he's played that one for such a long time, of course he would be taking that one along.”
    - The second case was opened and out came his blue five string Spector. And I went “Another firm favorite of his.”
    - The third case was opened and out came a six string Spector
    - The fourth case was opened and out came a fretless bass by... you guessed it... SPECTOR.
    And I was going, “Okay, he's contractually obliged to play Ibanez but refuses to do so?” And figured that there must be something wrong about those Ibanez basses if Doug wasn't playing his own signature model.

    Hello everyone! I need a bit of help in trying to determine what could cause the A string on a electric guitar (fender) to sound dull when played open/by itself. Any note played sounds fine the problem only happens when its open. New strings did not help, raising the action didn’t help but lowering did help it a wee bit. Could the Nut be causing this?

    • @andesneko
      @andesneko 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It could be the nut, but it could also be coincidence.
      Try to have someone else string it for you with yet another set of new strings.
      Maybe you're cutting or placing your string wrong.

    • @Iheartdgd
      @Iheartdgd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check your saddle, could be the nut though, run some pencil graphite and maybe file it out just a little bit if you feel like it’s hanging up. You sure it’s not resting on one of the frets? Does this guitar have a zero fret?
      Edit I wouldn’t restring it again if you already tried that
