keep the footwork shortest possible, land both feet almost simultaneously for kote

So I can strike with fumi Komi and still have kikentaiichi without lunging forward drastically?

If you are referring to the first attack that Eiga sensei did where he hit Kote without moving forward, yes, but keep in mind that this wasn’t an ippon. You need zanshin as well. Kikentaichi and moving forward (or backward) are two separate concepts.
