  • Mr. Andersen shows you how to draw free body diagrams of various objects. The major forces (like gravity, normal, tension, friction, air resistance, etc.) are discussed and then applied to various problems.

    Man I love the Portal series. It really tests your mind and problem solving skills.

    Thank you. So much. My physics teacher doesn't explain this at all, she just "expects" us to know how to do it. This really helps.

    Thank you so much!! I am so relieved to have found this video. My teacher just told us to learn it on our own and I was so confused! This made it make sense!!

    How about the "Normal Force to the floor" for the BOX/Body,
    which seems not mentioned at video (9:00 minutes of this video)?
    The rest of the video is well explaining!

    Please, if you could do a video for each chapter in a physics textbook, you would be the savior for soooo many physics students. (and Im suppose to be the "super genius" and Im saying this)

    Great job on the videos, with the golf ball that is hit, what is the kinetic energy, is that not a force?

    • @davidlipps1265
      @davidlipps1265 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinetic energy is not a force but is the measure of energy contained within a moving mass. (1/2)(mass in kg)(velocity in m/s)^2 = Joules of KE Kinetic energy can be transformed into a force when a mass contacts another mass. Forces change accelerations, accelerations change velocities, velocities change positions. Since KE of mass 1 doesn't change the acceleration of mass 1 it isn't a force acting on mass 1. However, the KE of mass 1 can be transformed into a contact force that acts on mass 2 which will change the acceleration of mass 2.
      Hope this helps.

      Thanks David, I know you are right, I just having a little trouble getting my mind wrapped around this. I think about my hybrid car, power it to a certain speed and then take my foot off the accelerator and it is coasting. Newton says it will keep moving unless acted on by another force. There is friction pushing back and it also turns the generator. It just seems to me that forces work in opposing pairs.

      My pleasure. Talking about these concepts solidifies my own understand. Unfortunately, Newtons laws aren't always as intuitive as we'd like them to be. Sometimes I have to really work at finding ways to make sense of things that I know are true but are hard to translate into everyday life.
