Broken Metal Detector Fixed!

- I'll be showing you a few great finds that I came across at my local Habitat For Humanity Goodwill ReStore. The broken metal detector shown in this video, that I fixed, is a Garrett GTA 500. On this channel I show other great deals picked up at Goodwill/ReStores, as well as broken items that I fixed. I may do a few more metal detector related videos in the future. Excellent video, I have a GTA 1000 like new that has same battery indicator problem.. was thinking I would have to send it in but maybe I will have same experience you did & save myself some time & money!! Again thanks for the tip!!

You find some great deals. I enjoy metal detecting its all about finding stuff. Best amount of targets i have found is searching under play ground equipment Kids are always loosing change when there hanging upside down there never gold coins just something to dig :-)

I want to know more about the garret Freedom 2 coin commander metal detector , frequency , deep.
I have a gta ultra 1000 that i am going to try this on, thanks! by the way i have 2 garrett ground hogs. 1 has no sound but the meter works. the other has sound but the disc knob is messed up. i think the problem with the one with out sound the problem is a bad solder connection.

Great video showing \the guts of the unit. Got mine at yard sale, can't get any sound through either the headphones or speaker. Have replaced the hip holster battery pack which included new speaker with board. Still no sound. Any suggestions?
Unplug all connections, then put them back.

hi i got the same machine/does it give a iron signal/on iron as mine seems to give the same good tone on everything..
I have one just like that one it was my fathers had no idea that was the cost of these, My battery pack, the one that is the biggest on the end that looks like a 9 volt battery, that little prong thing broke off, how can I fix that?> it just sits on top of the plastic? Any suggestions?
I found one of these on Facebook marketplace for $25 that wont power on. I think im gonna go get it and see if i can get lucky
Nice metal detector video. It would have been much better if you had shown the bad connections before and after repair. I wanted to see what part of the connection (pin or socket side) was bad and was it visibly bad or you ohmed it out to find the problem area.
EnergyCrafts I stated in the video that the problem were the pins, not the socket. Visual inspection under magnification, followed by resistance measurements across the connector. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for replying. You are right, I somehow missed that. Still you did not address my other 2 points: show a before and after of the bad area and show how you troubleshot the problem ie by obvious visible or ohm meter or some other method. I have a possible problem of intermittent connection similar to your pins/socket design but the plating is ether gold or brass, can't tell which. My pcb is large and complex and has many connectors. I am trying to isolate the problem to the connectors as none of the foil runs or solder points appear bad. Wiggling the board causes one of the LED pcb lamps to flicker. No schematics or info to follow. Been a electronic tech for 25 years but this one is a real puzzle.
Hi, I have a Garrett GTA 500. It hasn't been use for many years. I put in the batteries, it turned on but it beeps constantly. Could you Please tell me what could be wrong with it? Thanks for any information you can give. Love your vids.
You need to open up the unit and inspect it like I did. Also inspect the coil connector for poor contact/corrosion.

I have an Ace 250 with a broken/missing battery spring. Hopefully its not hard to replace.
You can always salvage parts from another electronic device.

Nice video! I picked up a gtax500 that a coworker was throwing away. The batteries were corroded so he kind of gutted the battery pack and wires. It's missing alot. Would you be willing to hook me up with some pictures of the inside of your battery pack? Id like to fix this and give it to my father.

I have the same metal detector but it will not beep I can find stuff and dig stuff up with it but I have no sound what would cause that and how to fix it
Either damage to the audio portion of the circuit, or a bad speaker/connection.
If they'd had some fresh batteries on hand to test that metal detector, you possibly could have bought it for way less than $10 , because as you mentioned that when you put fresh batteries into it , the battery life indicator was incorrect.
So even though it was a bargain at $10 , it would have been an even better bargain for way less than $10.

Hello. You're looking for a 2 Box metal detector. A quality unit can find very deep objects(such as cans of coins, large buried objects, pipes, etc) 15-20 feet deep. They're not cheap. The 2 below are the most popular. You won't find better for the price.

Hi Henry. Open up the unit and make sure all the connections are clean(no corrosion). Also make sure the coil connector is free of corrosion. You could have a faulty coil if you keep getting erratic readings. Thanks for watching!

Mixing materials in contact is a major cause of equipment malfunction.
Emil Almberg A much tighter fit with the pins inside the connector would have prevented the problem.
Two different materials will always lead to problems.
Especially with tin, the least noble will corrode.
Gold to gold is ok, tin to tin is ok.
Just as bad capacitors destroy people's computers and other precious equipment.
Causes this problem with all types of equipment, especially in industry.

You need to fix the audio so much echo we can't hear your voice.
Tuna Fish Audio was fine. I was in a room with marble floors and no furniture. Voice was very clear and easily understandable. Could be a problem with your audio.
