    I can't stop watching your video tutorial. It's fantastic. I'm reading all the information about this design. I finished my first metal detector yesterday. It's based on the krot2 circuit and for the moment I'm only testing the analog part. I made the coils but they are my first try and I'm too far from the nuling point of the coils. Now i'm making a mold to make a super tight coils. The screw adjusting design is so clever and I want to incorporate your idea in my search coil. Can you upload more videos using your detector? Thanks. Diego

      Hello Diego.
      I am pleased by your interest.
      Unfortunately, I do not have time for my hobby now. (House building) I plan my next video in the spring.
      The krot2 circuit was not known to me, it's very interesting with the ATXmega 32 and the LCD display.
      I keep the fingers crossed, that everything works at your project.

      Hello again EPAE. NoW after 3 months of work, design and building I'm near to finish my detector tgsl. Thanks to the inspiration that your video gave to me. (Thanks) Now I'm waiting for the epoxy to secure the coils inside the mold. I have shielded the coils with copper foil, but I don't know If it's good idea to give a layer of graphite paint to the plastic case, and if it is, how to make and were to make the gaps to avoid loops? That's the last step to finish the most sensitive part of the detector and because you only have one try i'm afraid of it. Thanks. Have nice day

    I don't think that shielding materials will effect the depth in a direct way, maybe when you shielded the coil with a certain material, that would effect the inductance some how, that's why you get a greater depth with the graphite shielded search head.
    Thank you for this rewarding video, I learned some technics from you .

    Absolutely love your work and explanation of how to build this device. Your device seems to be the best out of all the DYI's out there, because you have complete control out of tuning it up. The demonstrations on each step of the build process. The next circuit add on could be depth amplification and make it waterproof. This way you can place the coil in water in small streams or lakes. Can your device penetrate rock and detect metal inside? Such as those rocks people hide their keys in as a test? Since silver is normally found inside rocks. I could see you making and selling these and people would buy, because yours looks professionally made. Sometimes things break, so having sections for sale such as a new coil and housing. The circuit board and casing. I remember how easy it was to buy components at a radio shack. Now, parts aren't as easy to get. ECG and HSK used to be the go to for ordering all your parts. What country are you from?

  • @Ma_X64
    @Ma_X64 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The wire that you used to contact the graphite varnish can spoil the performance of the device, as it forms a closed loop next to the winding. The fact that it goes at an angle at every point does not really matter, because integrally it forms a single conductor. However, it is apparently impossible to completely abandon shielding, therefore, the ends of the wire should be connected to the ends of a symmetrical resistive voltage divider, the resistance of which should be selected based on the balance of noise immunity and signal attenuation. And already the middle point of this voltage divider can be connected to the common wire of the device.

    What is the wire type and size of each D coil and what is the wire wrapped over the graphite tape? Awesome job mate. I want to build one for my Garrett AT Gold. I notice that Garrett does something very similar, the use 32ga on one side and 25ga on the other side. All magnetic wire and graphite powder mixed with epoxy as a coating over each coil.

      minimum signal voltage like 1mv peak t peak will be in certain phase woth reference to the tx signal , then discrimination will not work properly. A combination of phase and lower voltage on RX ends are required for discrimination to work properly, not just a lower voltage , in short it is an "And" function voltage × phase 🙋

    • @epaeepae8679

      Hello first.
      The best coil calculator is the " LCFR" (Lcfr.zip, 4KB), I think.
      Not to spite of that, the 0.25mm is best suited. I did not get him too, so i used the 0.28 mm.
      Important is the inductance and the self-resonance of your coil. 14.5kHz and Tx 6.0mH, Rx 6.5 mH.
      Greatigs!

      Aus welchem Material sind diese Abschirmdrähtchen? Kupfer versilbert? Oder geht reines CU auch?
      Gruß Matthias

    • @epaeepae8679
      @epaeepae8679  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sie sind Kupfer verzinnt. Es sind einfach Einzeldrähte aus einer dünnen Litze. Egal was du nimmst, es hat die Funktion einen guten Kontakt mit der Graphitoberfläche herzustellen. Die Graphitschicht baut Zentimeter für Zentimeter einen immer höheren Widerstand auf. Einmal herum um die Spule währen das dann einige Megaohm. Das ist dann überhaupt keine Abschirmung mehr. Die zwei dünnen Drähtchen kreuzweise gewickelt sind schon gut!
      Wichtig ist, das Graphit keine metallischen Eigenschaften hat. Die Spule soll ja auf Metalle reagieren. Also nimmt jedes Metall der Spule ihre Sensibilität!

      @ltsgobrando 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Naw boo, they both have their own rolls to play. Vacuum forming is much better for manufacturing robust thing quickly, where 3D printing is much better at prototyping and or producing small and complex structures.
      The real mind bender is when you 3D print a vacuum mold.
      Oh ya, and I also got a fun fact: there's only 20 years between their inventions... 64 for vacuum forming and 84 for 3D printing. That's right, 3D printing came out 12 years after the last time we went to the moon.

    Hab noch eine Frage: Wie hast du die Spulen fixiert bevor du den 2K - Kleber draufgetan hast? Mir fallen die Windungen auseinander und die Schnur bekomme ich nur schwer wieder runter.

      Hallo Mathias!
      Fixiert habe ich die noch lose Spule zunächst nicht mit einer Schnur (Faden), sondern mit einem 4mm breiten Streifen Klebeband sehr steil gewickelt. Achte darauf, dass die Spule möglichst kompakt bleibt. Dannanch kam ein 5 min. Epoxi darüber. Nicht zuviel ! Als es es noch nicht total fest war, zog ich das Klebeband wieder ab, und strich noch eine weitere Lage Epoxi drüber.
      Also Geduld und viel Glück! EPAE

    Hello again Epae. Maibe you are busy this days, but I have a question for you. I'm trying to find the answer in the forums but I can't find the correct one. My question is about the phase shift. Originally the phase shift is 20° and that means more or less 4us between the TX and RX (for 14,5kHz) but in your video you have aprox 11us. With my detector I get the best performance with 12us to 14us which is aprox the 20% (not 20°) of delay. So, people are talking about degrees or % of delay. Thanks!!!

      @epaeepae8679  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, your question pleases me! It is the first time this question is asked!
      These 20 ° refer to a sinusoid. A quarter sinus curve goes from the zero line up to the maximum, that is 90 °. It can be seen on the oscillograph about a quarter of 90 °, about 22 °. The 11μS gives me my oscillograph. I did not recalculate this.
      I took this from the construction manual "TGLS 101 - hobbielektronika" page 20 chapter "Advanced Nulling Methods". Look at it, maybe I misunderstood something?
      In the meantime, experience has shown to me that a little less overlap is better. Interferences are reduced.
      Now i adjust my coil about 5 ° overlap.
      A calculation of frequency, sine wave to time, leads in my opinion to no better results. I'm doing this pragmatically.
      I know you would have preferred a more specific answer.
      But........
      Greetings!

    Amazing! So many of us build it follow TGSL101 but we can't get target further than 20 cm how you make it? Did you use all the parts same as original parts?

    • @epaeepae8679
      @epaeepae8679  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello there.
      Yes, I use the same parts as the original. In addition, however, is still a 2 tone board. To find: "TGSL metal detector Abstract 2 tones".
      Important is the interplay of several components.
      The coil, in the way like I show it in the video, accurate 'nulling', a matter of a hair width and a metal-free shielding!
      The 2ton bord also increases the sensitivity! (Sometimes a bit too much!)
      Coins like 1 € should be reachable with 25cm.
      I wish you luck !!!

      EPAE EPAE In the clip you said you changed lm308 to Op07 is that right?

    • @epaeepae8679
      @epaeepae8679  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, because the LM308 was not available quickly. Technically there is no difference. Later I exchanged him. The OP07 is a tiny, tiny bit more cleaner I guess.
      The sensitivity can be increased considerably with the '2 ton bord'. There is a transistor BC337. I used the BC337-40, this gave the best results.

      The outer dimensions are 40 x 40 centimeters. In the middle area are still small spacers. The wood strip around is 5 millimeters thick. A seal is required above. In the film you can see the bluish felt strip. Good luck!!!

    Sehr, sehr gute Arbeit ! Die abstimmbare Spule ist eine sehr gute Idee. Das drängt mich ja gerade dazu, es selbst zu versuchen. Ich habe schon einmal ein Video gefunden über den TGSL, kann ich davon ausgehen, das es diesen irgendwo als Bausatz gibt ? Das Löten beherrsche ich recht gut, das wickeln und abstimmen passt ganz genau in mein Schema (Amateurfunk). Das Ätzen einer Platine beherrsche ich hingegen nicht. Nochmals, Ihre Arbeit gefällt mir sehr sehr gut ! Daumen hoch.

      Danke Sascha!
      Es gibt fertige Platinen für den TGSL und auch IGSL bei „ Silverdog“. Für einen Nachbau gibt es eine Bauanleitung unter „Hobbielektronika TGSL 101" . Der IGSL ist eindeutig besser, aber auch aufwändiger. Viel Glück!

    Olá Sr. Epae, eu não conseguia entender como você fez o escudo, em que ponto você usou a pintura grafite, você poderia explicar melhor como fazê-lo? Eu estou terminando meu tgsl, a versão que eu estou fazendo é o que contém cd4024 sem ser o TGSL-EDU. Obrigado antecipadamente e trabalho bonito, parabéns.

      Hi Rani !!!
      Thanks for your assessment.
      At the beginning is the finished coil. Then I armored them with epoxy. Of course, the epoxy also insulates the wires of the coil. The graphite lacquer layer is sprayed directly on the coil, and not inside the housing! So the shield is located directly on the coil. The thin bare wires ensure an intensive contact with the gerphite layer. The coil thus has a similarity with a shielded cable.
      It was important to me that a metal shield dampens a metal detector. Graphite does not do this!
      I hope I could help you.
