That’s what I like about the GP, it beeps when you right on top of the target that way you know exactly where it is. Other than the Garrert where it beeps 2 inches away and don’t know exactly where it is.
Yes I just bought a GP pointer from Amazon for just over £13 pounds and it works a lot better than the one in the video, also you can desensitize it by turning it off and back on while it is close to the object and at full signal, this is explained in the user manual.
I am using the GP Pointer at the moment (I will be upgrading this year) Mine performs way way better than is being shown here. I got the GP because it was cheap and yes I know you get what you pay for. But this was my first season detecting and already spent over budget. My GP Pointer has served me well and is still going strong, I have no doubt it aint as good as many others on the market but is better than grabbing fists full of dirt. I think compared to this mine would have found the pellet with ease at that depth and would have picked up the coin at around an inch and half.... Maybe I got the good one???? but reviews I viewed before getting mine were good...not great but good. Not sure this is a true reflection based on what I am finding with mine.
I have not been able to afford the Garrett since I am new at this hobby and bought a few of these cheaper pinpointers. I found mine all under $15 on Amazon ($12.99 and $13.99) and another brand for only $4.29! I just did a video showing how one GP Pointer was way more sensitive and louder than another. I have a feeling some of them are better than others and it varies from pinpointer to pinpinter. He may have gotten a dud. It is weird how each one of these GP Pointers can be better than other ones of the same model. Here they are in action along with the $4.29 no name brand one: th-cam.com/video/7G0_uE2bMig/w-d-xo.html
I have the same experience as Jollyboy, my GP pointer would have picked up the pellet and would have buzzed at the coins from further away. I only paid £13 for it - and I've been using it hard for about 2 months now - still works great.
I’ve had one for 3 yrs now, it’s been dropped, stepped on,has gotten wet, I use Every weekend Weather permitting,in the Parks,a lot of Beach use, and it’s been rock solid, would buy another in a second Hope this helps some,,,,,Best Regards, good luck Detecting!
Hi there I bought mine on wish, it took bout 6 weeks to get to me, I brought it with me when I went camping and was able to fine old tent pegs that looked like really rusty and at least 2inchs down and gave a good signal
I just bought a gp pointer and it's nice . Now the more you use it , it gets better picking up . I have a Bounty Hunter pinpointer , and it's not worth throwing in the trash . Now I do like the gp pointer .
When I received mine I put in a battery and it only powered the light and was getting ready to return it. For kicks I tried another battery and it worked great.
I just got mine in and it works about like the Garrett. Locates large and small coins at about 3". It picked up a 22 cal pellet at about 1". On a budget, this is a great way to go. I would suppose on budget items, the chance for duds are greater but if you luck into a good one you come out ahead. As a LEO, I unfortunately have to take the risk a little more than I'd like.
I've gone through 2 GP pointers in 6 months, both plastic wore away on the tip and also button fell off. I now have a Garrett and there is no comparison, it is 100x better
I picked up a GP pointer from Amazon, mine picks up small coins from about 2 inches with no problem, certainly an issue with yours - maybe if the packaging for yours was a bit crushed the pointer got damaged as well. I can get near 2 inches off the side as well. Got it on a next day delivery in the UK, guess they keep stock of them over here - about 30 UKP cost. Happy with mine.
I know that this is an older video, but my comment may help someone that gets an older GP pointer model (like the one tested in the video). Use a bright flashlight to light up the tip of the GP. Put the light right against the plastic. See if the sensing coil is all the way at the end (there will be an obvious shadow if it's not). If it's not at the very end, look on TH-cam to see how to fix it.
Gp-pointer What is a metal detector pointer? A metal detector Pinpointer is a specialized tool which is useful for determining the exact location, depth, and even size of an object without the hassle of using an all-purpose metal detector.
You to open up the GP and you need to push the sensor towards the tip. Flash a light behind the top and you will see the sensor is about 1 inch down. Use a coat hanger to push it.
I have a Garrett and another cheapo kind... I intentionally set my Garrett to not beep unless I am very close to the item.. I want it to pinpoint exactly where the item is in the dirt, not pick it up several inches away. That's what the metal detector is for.. It could be anywhere, being that far away. Just my preference...
I have a pro pointer AT and you can "de-tune" it. When you're close to an item, quick press the button and it will not beep.until you are closer still.
mine works awesome,, just a tip, i carefully removed the rubber plug on the power switch and applyed a drop of gun oil to the switch ,then replace the plug.
I've been using the GP pointer for about a year. I must say it's an excellent pinpointer I cannot justify spending all that money on a Garrett pinpointer. One thing that you did not mention in your video and until you actually use the GP pointer in the field for sometime you would not have known this. The GP pointer will beat slower on iron and faster on non-ferrous metals it actually does discriminate between the two and that is a technology that I think is just now coming out in some of your new Minelab pinpointers.
I would rather pay ten times as much for the Garrett it’s by far the best the nokta is really noisy and has a Daley on switch on and the Chinese gp is junk
Plus you have to take all the types of metals to your GP pinpointed to auto program it and mine works just as good if not better then the Garrett only difference is the light stays on
The GP Pointer CAN NOT be submerged in water. If you are a beach hunter this will be an issue for you. If you are a dry land relic hunter it would be a decent pointer
sir, I just got the GP pointer, and it has done well. I found a silver company coin in an area I checked with my main detector.. I also found a steel property marker 2 inches under solid, regular dirt.. Today, I found a 1999 quarter under and inch of saw dust chips.. So, I hope you got a dud--so you can get a better 1. I am now debating on getting a Garrett tomorrow for 41 bux..
im very happy with my gp pointer...ive found lots of stuff in the two months ive had it...not sure how the garrett would be better...i dig a hole and the gp helps me pinpoint the metal...garrett would do what differently for another 100 bucks?
Been using one for months along side a garret and works really well. Dont know what hes doing wrong but mine would have picked up on it about 1.5 ins away
One of my GP's (have 2) had very good sensitivity, but began going hyper after a couple hours of field use. The unit now fails to reset after pulling away from metal. Must be turned off .....every time.
My brand new GP pointer just came today and it's surprisingly way beyond my expectations! I hope it last though. But I was surprised it reached up to 6 inches then pin pointing accuracy beeps when I get closer to target. Excited to use it for a beginner I highly recommend it.
The worm agrees with you. Great video. This helps me decide what to buy, and it's been a trip trying to get something that will detect a small piece of gold in a stream bed.
I am A beginner in detecting. I search a lot but i bought the gp pointer i used it 4 5 times.. It really seems value for money helps me a lot with pinpointing amd finding smalls.. Really good product for money
I see this is an old video but I just got my GP-Pointer today and the first battery that I tried had only about 4 Volts the second one read over 9 Volts. Always check your battery voltage first. I haven't tried it to see how it works but it didn't work at all with a dead battery. Chinese batteries of unknown age could be your problem.
Mine is very sensitive; I hit pennies at 4 inches. I learned a trick I saw someone do: Turn off your pinpointed, and turn it on when your in the hole; it will self calibrate to find your target faster.
Haven't even watched the video yet but the gp pointer I bought wouldn't even detect a quarter if I touched it and the gp pointer instructions specifically says it's not waterproof.
Great demonstration. I bought the Garrett and moaned about the price... I feel a lot happier now :-) It cost around £125 in the UK that's about $172... Have a nice day.
i have a chinesse gp pointer, and mine works very nice, i cant see any difference in distance detection with the garret, maybe yours are not working correctly? also nice video, that kind of material help us to decide what to buy
I have 2 of the gp pointers, just tried the dime, quarter, and .177 pellet tests..... Im getting 1 and 1/2 inches on the coins and they pick up the small pellet at about 1/2" Didnt do any "tuning" or anything, just how they work out of the box. Dont know if there is multiple factories in china producing these but got mine from ebay a couple weeks ago and they seem to perform closer to the carrot. Also mine seem to have a higher pitched tone. If they are produced in different factories then they might be set different or have different internals.
hi mate, will the inner workings of a garrett carrot fit inside a gp pointer casing , i detect every other day and my pointer has worn through in just over 7 months , just thought this might be a cheap fix if it would .. thanks
I just received the kkmoom pinpointer and tried it in different places and compared to my garrett there's no match. I would have loved it to match it but it's really not sensitive enough. I had to go back to my car to get my garrett. Very disapointed.
I think you gotta push and hold button go pointer has setting. If I recalled...you ever use the voin adjustment on them pinpointers? Hold the coin on the pinpointer shaft till you just get a hint of a signal.... You'd be surprised with all them pinpointers you'll get crazy depths.
I'm using a GP Pointer and probably like many below have taken it out during this video to repeat the test you did. I was able to get at least a 2 inch detection on coins both at the tip and on the side. I'm wondering whether the battery installed in the GP Pointer perhaps wasn't a fresh Alkaline? Otherwise, it looks like you may have a dud pointer.
+Matt Palmer gonna buy another one and try again. Battery was new. I messed the switch up on this one taking it apart to see if I could turn the potentiometer up
DON'T be fooled ....IP level: Meets IEC 60529 IP65 standards (Can Not be soaked in water) Only the tip can go in water...the light and switch and the rest of the case are not designed to be submerged.
I got the gp pointer, it was working, my third usage of it, it’s stopped picking up things. Won’t beep. I turn it on and it’ll beep once to come on, but when I point it to metal, it won’t do anything. The light comes on, and I’ve changed the batteries, but still nothing. Am I doing something wrong or is my defective somehow?
i have bought 3 major brands .but for the money .I found the gp pointer from eBay to be as good as the others i was shocked at how good .it just works .I prefer a know brand but i am really impressed with this cheep imitation .9 OUT of ten no bull shit .its a little less sensative but it takes me strait to the target every time .9 months still on the same battery .oh the led is brighter than all the rest actually helps shine on a target in the hole .for 50 bucks its excellent .I bought another 2 .
Just a thought here.... In a WORST CASE SCENARIO if the GP Pinpointer doesn't work too well you can always use it for spare parts for the Garrett. For example, recently I wore through the tip of my Garrett. Ideally, I would get a new case (housing) for it to replace the one that I have now with a tiny hole. Unfortunately, they don't sell cases alone. I need to work on repairs instead. So yeah, if the physical features of the GP are exactly as the Garrett, then you have a whole heap of potential spare parts - button, case, cap, holster, o-ring.......
though I had some problem with sea water It also th-cam.com/users/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
I was suckered into buying a GP Pointer, bait and switch off a Garrett. It won't detect my gold wedding ring unless it is touching it. It detects iron at an inch and a half. Geekugo has no address so I can't send it back.
I have a pulse dive nokta 99 bucks I use it a two sensitivity under water and find it un beatable on hi sensitivity just snorkeling the bottoms in lakes in Michigan really like nokta products 👊
He didn't address the batteries..... What batteries do the Garrett pointer use? How long on average do you get between new batteries before they are dead? I'm on the eve of purchasing my first detector ever...... I'm leaning towards the Garrett AT Pro, any thoughts from you folks? I'm in the Midwest so there will be NO beach detecting. Just soil/clay mixture. Any help? Anyone have problems damage of their machine's from shipping probs?
I did gag out the full $130 or so for the garret and almost ordered a gp and did not because I have the money at the time and nothing is worse than buying a cheap imitation with varying poor manufacturing using bizarre not trustable components and feeling sick about it for years. Mine works fine and is fully waterproof with good reputable guarantees from a known company with strict quality controls since those in the normal world compared to china demand better quality. However you are paying three times as much. Notice that in the comments people are saying "you must have got a lemon"--the point being that you get the pin pointer and have no idea on the spectrum--how well it works or does not. To me I wanted to pay AND BE DONE WITH IT. I most certainly do order obscure things from china so I am not a believer "buy american and pay anything they demand if you want to be a good american"
My gp goes up to 6 inches on that quarter, 21 bucks well spent, well of course after working my electronic magic inside it. I migth make a video bout it
I accidentally just ordered a gp pointer online thinking while looking at the reviews for the garret pro. Thought they were the same thing. But I've heard some good reviews on it, I mean it was only 15 dollars so I didn tf lose a whole lot.
@@scannerguy1968 honestly no lie I get decent depth with it, and I had a whites bullseye 2 which was only marginly better, identity doubt you I was going to buy a Chinese clone t2. But there are good ones and bad ones of them too. Besides I'd say that they don't deserve our custom right now tbh
I always choose Garrett products since it’s made in America. You wouldn’t see a difference when other companies design exactly from a good quality brand.
not sure what's wrong with that gp pointer, but the ones i've seen will work at a few inches at least on an air test, and you can modify them to go out to 4". that must be a dud?
I have the gp pointer and works really great but batteries went down due to light always being on when its ON….so I really dont need the light and decided to gently break the bulb with some needlenose and now battery last longer….you have a bad go pointer…,mine gets a quarter from 2 inches away no problem
I've got a Garrett and a GP Pointer. I paid $21 bucks for mine as an extra just to keep in the truck. It works okay, but if you are just getting your first one, buy a Garrett.

Looks like they are hit or miss with quality. I have the garrett pro pointer at and I know it will work good every time that's what you pay for. I'm planning on buying an off brand for my wife because she only goes with me a couple times a year. I see a few of them for around $27. I'll take a gamble at that. Just what one is the better one? Hahaha.
I paid 17.50 for mine on line, it works great over 2" down. Problem found Some GP pointers need to be tapped on the pointer end several times to get the board in place towards the tip, then they work as well as the Garrett. My GP works a little better than my Garrett
Dude, my GP picks up every time at 2". You either have a bad unit or bad battery.
Me to
Im sure its the battery coz i got it too and it work pretty well
It's probably the sensor is not right at the tip. I added a link to a fix on the main comments here.
That’s what I like about the GP, it beeps when you right on top of the target that way you know exactly where it is. Other than the Garrert where it beeps 2 inches away and don’t know exactly where it is.
What about the fast retuning for the carrot to make it less sensitive?

I've got an GP Pointer, too. But mine works as nearly as good as my mate's Garrett Pinpointer.
@Rad!. el hierro el hierro el hierro
I've gone through 2 GP pointers in 6 months, both plastic wore away on the tip and also button fell off.
I now have a Garrett and there is no comparison, it is 100x better

Ideally, I would get a new case (housing) for it to replace the one that I have now with a tiny hole. Unfortunately, they don't sell cases alone. I need to work on repairs instead. So yeah, if the physical features of the GP are exactly as the Garrett, then you have a whole heap of potential spare parts - button, case, cap, holster, o-ring.......
Bizness Crew send it to Garrett. They replaced mine for 50 bucks
though I had some problem with sea water It also th-cam.com/users/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
I still don't know what to buy. What about the MACKRO. ???
I use the nokta pointer. Very sensitive and dectects deeper on high
What battery we use. I just recevd my order but no battery fix.
I was suckered into buying a GP Pointer, bait and switch off a Garrett. It won't detect my gold wedding ring unless it is touching it. It detects iron at an inch and a half. Geekugo has no address so I can't send it back.
il mio gp pointer funziona benissimo..rileva una moneta come il Garrett...ma hai messo le pile cariche..o è caduto dal quarto piano?
The GP is great. But its also about the 9v battery. I use a Duracell for it! Then it will get the best results.
I just watched this video about "SuperTuning the GP Pointer" on You Tube. That is something I don't think I would ever have thought of.
My gp goes up to 6 inches on that quarter, 21 bucks well spent, well of course after working my electronic magic inside it. I migth make a video bout it
Tell us the magic you did please ! My daughter would love it if I can make it more sensitive.
You need to check your battery. Mine is over 2 inches overall. It seems to be on par with the Garrett you tested.
My gp goes three to 3 to 5 inches depending on the metal, u have a faulty unit or low battery
My Xlounger and Kuman pin pointers were both just under $50 and honestly they preform better than both shown in this video
I accidentally just ordered a gp pointer online thinking while looking at the reviews for the garret pro. Thought they were the same thing. But I've heard some good reviews on it, I mean it was only 15 dollars so I didn tf lose a whole lot.
On the Garrett, the tip is not the most sensitive part... its a half inch from the tip.
Can somebody explain the IP 66 standard of my GP Pointer? Can I use this underwater? Thanks for the reply..
My Garrett Carrot is more sensitive than yours. Mine is so sensitive that it picks up coins an about a 6" to 7" radius.
They must have improved the gp pinpointer for 2020 because I get just over a inch on mine with rechargeable batteries
I put another vid up this year. Same results. I even bought two this time. Maybe I'm getting lemons
Must be. Others have said that. Going to order another and see
I have the gp pointer and works really great but batteries went down due to light always being on when its ON….so I really dont need the light and decided to gently break the bulb with some needlenose and now battery last longer….you have a bad go pointer…,mine gets a quarter from 2 inches away no problem
I've got a Garrett and a GP Pointer. I paid $21 bucks for mine as an extra just to keep in the truck. It works okay, but if you are just getting your first one, buy a Garrett.
This is an extremely well done video. Very informative. It’s my first one that I’ve watched of yours. Great job
Can someone suggest pinpointer?
PROS/CONS? THANKS
I got a GP pointer from the wish app for under $20 and it seems to work good.
how much money
What is a metal detector pointer? A metal detector Pinpointer is a specialized tool which is useful for determining the exact location, depth, and even size of an object without the hassle of using an all-purpose metal detector.

excellent job on your video ...realy is the best I seen on this ...thanks
My GP outperforms both yours. Wonder why?
I did the same tests with the gp poiter and if it works
Looks like they are hit or miss with quality. I have the garrett pro pointer at and I know it will work good every time that's what you pay for. I'm planning on buying an off brand for my wife because she only goes with me a couple times a year. I see a few of them for around $27. I'll take a gamble at that. Just what one is the better one? Hahaha.
Whats it like with Other metAls? Gold
got such a cheap one and it works fine in combination with the garrett ace 250 pinpoint function
I found d that the go pointer will not ri g on lead. Bummer
Thanks for your time in making this video my friend!!
Don't have either but I bet he needs to check the battery on the go. Just saying
i payed $11.71 for mine it works great finding gold here in Alaska nice size nuggets and a lot of pickers love mine GP Pointer from E-BAY
You didn't tune it. The 3 that I have act just like yours *WITHOUT* the tuning sliding up/down the side.
Super film, dzięki za porównanie tych dwóch produktów. Już wiem że Garett jest lepszy. Pozdrawiam 👊👏👏👍👌😎
With sensitivity as poor as the GP, I won't waste my time with it if it was free. Thanks for the review.
I paid 17.50 for mine on line, it works great over 2" down. Problem found Some GP pointers need to be tapped on the pointer end several times to get the board in place towards the tip, then they work as well as the Garrett. My GP works a little better than my Garrett
I’m a Garrett man myself
I have one this thing how much money it is
I got for 23.00 GP pointer not great but it does work good from penny and dimes ok at about 1 inch away
Get a Tek-Point and own the Best hands down.It blows everything else away.
...how is it better than the carrot?
My GP does about 5" you have a duff one there dude.
