not sure if y’all know this already but when joy was speaking to her grandpa in the beginning she didn’t stutter because she hesitated to tell him that she has a girlfriend, she stuttered because she forgot the word for girlfriend in cantonese. hence the scene before that where joy’s grandpa tells her that her cantonese has gotten worse.
Joy was speaking mandarin....the mother speaks to her husband and daughter in mandarin but speaks to her father in Cantonese, grandpa only speaks Cantonese

Waymond DID NOT throw Evelyn under the bus with his “hobbies for businesses” comment. He was trying to defend her. Deirdre is questioning her claiming business expenses they had no right to claim, and demanding an explanation; he is attempting to show that there was no intentional tax fraud being committed. An honest mistake would be more leniently treated than a wilful felony (or at least, so he hopes).
My understanding of the film is that team googly eye= nothing matters so make the most out of it and team bagel=nothing matters so what’s the point in making life better
When it comes to the stairs scene when Evelyn is "killing with kindness," so to speak. I don't see it as simply giving them what they _want,_ I don't think she's just filling selfish desires. I see it as giving them the thing that will make them most happy. The things they're missing in their lives that some other version of them in another universe found and gives them true joy. For one of them it was finding self-love, for two of them it was finding love for someone else, for another it was no longer having to live with a debilitating physical problem, for another it was getting a puppy, etc, etc. And for that one dude it was discovering he really, really likes BDSM and being dominated. Even if you find the thing that brings someone else joy disgusting, as long as they're not hurting anybody there ain't nothin' wrong with it. No reason to yuck anybody's yum, they're just finding the fun in all this noise.
"They don't want you to be all that you can be!" You can be whatever you want, but you can't call new chef knives, a typewriter, and a karaoke machine a tax write-off for a straight-up laundromat, lol. Y'all gonna get Wesley Snipe'd out here!

Waymond was played by Ke Huy Quan, who is well known for being short round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies. This movie is his first movie in 38 years (since those two movies mentioned above). Now he's gonna be in Season 2 of Loki and he got an Oscar nomination for this movie. The reason why he didn't act for so long was because when he got older, there were less parts for him in Hollywood. He got the courage to get back into acting after watching Crazy Rich Asians(another movie that Michelle Yeoh starred in).

Great reaction guys! I really love this movie. It is just so original, so well done. It makes you realize just how lazy and predictable so many movies are.
I had no interest in this movie when it came out. I am not sure why except I tend not to go with the hyped movies. I finally got around to it and was blown away. Laughed and cried a lot. Still do watching reaction videos of it. It took me some rewatches to realize that the family is actually tri-lingual because they speak two Chinese dialects (Cantonese and Mandarin). As I understand it the dialects are very different when spoken but written the same. I only once tried learning a Chinese dialect (Taiwanese because I was hanging out with some Taiwanese people while living in Japan). I realized I would never succeed because I could not hear the difference between the word for "mother" and the word for "sh_t." The tones are different and I could not get the tones. When watching a reaction to this movie I know, when that pig appears, the reactors are in for the start of a really wild ride. Buckle up when the pig shows up. And yes, after seeing this movie I did get an everything bagel with cream cheese! I am lucky to have amazing bagels at a local spot...an advantage of living in Brooklyn.
Regards the reason for fetish... fighting with love may not be the ultimate point there .... Read at another reaction n quite agree with that point (I paraphrase - do not yuck at another's yum) we don't have to scoff at another's interest, being dogmatic about it... In today's world there is some kind of heavy handedness that goes on by ones who think they're in the right, even causing hurt when there's no need to. This scene just emphesise in a humourous way but the point is there.
