    This thriller is almost Hitchcock in it's simplicity. Predominantly set in a single location with just two characters going at it.
    Kudos to the director for keeping it lively and interesting.

    In Stephen King's book that this movie is based off of, there are several interludes throughout it. These are chapters of Paul's manuscript that Annie is making him write. They are in a typewriter font but the N's look handwritten in since the N key is missing on the typewriter.I though that was a nice little detail tossed in there.

    One of the craziest psychological horror thriller movies ever made!
    This is also a cautionary tale on how dangerous and toxic fans can get sometimes when their favorite character or heroes get killed off in a TV series or movie. This is how it is today, and this is what's going on all over the world.

    • @clarencewalker3925
      @clarencewalker3925 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Stephen King met one of those fans. They had broken into his house. This is where this story originated.

    • @mildredpierce4506
      @mildredpierce4506 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crazy and dangerous fans are the reason why so many celebrities are standoffish. It is not widely known but some celebrities receive death threats so they cannot afford to be all friendly with their fans.
      Some years ago, A crazy lady went to David Letterman‘s house. I don’t know where but at some point that same woman purposely stepped in front of a subway train and was killed. When his son was still young, somebody had threaten to kidnap him.
      Some crazy guys claimed that him and Madonna were supposed to get married. This was in the 90s I believe.
      On top of all that, scammers are now pretending to be celebrities and proposing marriage to gullible people. Some of these victims might try to approach the real celebrity because they think they are in a relationship with them.

    Crazy to think how Rob Reiner got finished with When Harry Met Sally, and then within a year went on to direct this nerve-wracking suspenseful nightmare, the guy's a really versatile director.
    I think this is up there with The Shawshank Redemption as the best Stephen King adaptation, unbearably tense direction, a brilliant script, and two powerhouse performances from Caan and Bates, it's a masterpiece

    So... Was Gen-X the only generation who grew up seeing all the R-Rated & Horror movies before we were old enough to do so? 😂 It makes me laugh every time I hear people say “Our parents didn’t ALLOW us to watch these movies when we were kids”. Meanwhile, I remember going into R-Rated movies at drive-ins and theatres without anyone stoping us and our Boomer parents letting us rent anything but XXX rated movies at the VHS rental shops (After all, if we did not rent them, we’d see them 6 months later on cable TV with our illegal TV decoders 😅 Some of those movies made the hobbling scene seem like Sesame Streets in comparison 😱)

      I was 4-5 when for Easter Sunday + my birthday & a cousin's birthday party...my uncle had "The Exorcist" playing. I saw all of the slasher flicks as soon as they were on VHS even though I was supposed to be sleeping...I just watched from the alcove that led to the bathroom because it never made sense for me not to see these made-up, make-believe stories as real. The few "real" movies that could be real, our parents either watched with us, and explained certain points so my Xellenial mind could comprehend it. But I mean, my folks were big on a lot of newer thoughts of mind regarding certain things up to an extent regarding my age.

    • @daerdevvyl4314

      Yeah, I don't really understand parents who expose their kids to extremely scary, violent or sexual stories. There is something to be said for protecting the innocence of children. My sister didn't even have a TV until her kids were teenagers, and that was before smartphones or the general availability of the internet. I don't think they feel like they missed out on anything by not watching people get dismboweled when they were three.

    Great movie Great reaction. Another Rob Reiner movie adapted from a Stephen King story you should check out is Stand By Me. If you haven't already seen it, of course. It also has a phenomenal cast of young 80s stars. And a great soundtrack. After watching the movie for the first time, King told Reiner it was the best adaptation of his work yet.

    1. A mustang isn't a very good vehicle to drive in the snow.
    2. Red flag #1: Anyone that says "Oogie"
    3. The way she responded to the fire in the BBQ pit when he threw a match on the book:
    What do you expect?
    4. In the book Annie chops his feet off (not just hobbling him). It IS Stephen King after all.
    5. Kathy Bates won Best Actress Oscar.
    6. Rob Reiner is a great director but, it's too bad he's a CPF.😭🤬
    7. King wrote this because of a deep-seated fear of what overzealous fans might do.
    8. RIP James Caan 😇

    As bad as the movie is it is mild compared to the book, in that she chops his foot off with a fire axe and uses a blow torch to cauterize the wound.

    25:50 So what you're saying is that it would be a good thing for all scriptwriters to be held prisoner by obsessive psychotic fans and forced to write fan friendly scripts? I think I could get behind that!

    She wasn't shaking babies 😂😂 wtf? They would have known the very first time. She was one of those nurses that killed their patients using a lethal dose of something, mashing it look natural, therefore taking a while for them to figure out, hence the multiple victims. Shaking babies??? Lol

    • @LatetotheParty
      @LatetotheParty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Shaken baby syndrome" is a well known method of death for infants. Especially by angry or frustrated caregivers.
      Clearly Annie had anger issues that she was unable to control.
