Its sad the amount of historical buildings that have been demolished. So much lost history.

In 1947 I went to kindergarten at Eugene Field School, My Dad worked for the Caterpillar Dealer in their Parts Department, and my Granddad was a salesman there. His 1st cousin was Cash Whitman who was the owner of Whitman Construction Company, That company built many of the subdivisions in Saint Joe. I remember that year my Dad bought a brand new 1947 Pontiac (I wish I had that car now). St. Joe had a minor League baseball team called the Cardinals which was a farm team of the St Louis Cardinals, My dad used to take us to their games, Also he used to take us to basketball games at the St Joseph Auditorium. There was a cafeteria in St Joe called Jerre Ann's Cafeteria which had absolutely delicious food. 50 years later, my wife and I were visiting the area and were pleasantly surprised to see that it was still there and even in the same building.

I am really surprised that there are not that many views. I was raised in Saint Joseph and wonder how many of these people that I had run into while living there? I was born in 1956 and left Joe Town in 1974. I'm sure that most people in this video are deceased. Thank you for posting.

I was born there in 1957, came to California high school in 1972. I still had family there would always come home to visit. Had a visit there this month 08-2023. It’s sad how bad the town has changed.

I lived in St. Joseph during 1960-61 with my brother and his family. The downtown retail area was thriving until they built a shopping mall on the outskirts east of town. Now all that's left is a bunch of 4-way stop signed intersections. In 2008 while driving from Florida to northern California I had lunch in the Taco Bell at 9th & Francis and seemed be the only business that was open.

Saint Joseph is a very wonderful city in Buchanan County, MO. I know several people from such different cities as Independence, Lee's Summit and Blue Springs in Jackson County, Liberty in Clay County and Saint Peter, Saint Charles, O'Fallon and Wentzville in Saint Charles County, who moved to Saint Joseph.

I was a Rider when Phil J Welch was the Mayor. It was my ride from the Pony Express Barn to the River Bridge. I was just a kid, but knew Tex Cashman and Raymond Hardy of the Lake Contrary Rodeo Riders group and worked as a stable boy for Raymond Harding a Negro Man who owned and operated the Lake Contrary Horse Race Track and Stables. Tex Cashman was a local Cowboy character who lived at Lake Contrary, I also worked for Stoney Shepherd and O. T. Harlan the biggest farmers in the area. I also worked for Mrs. Mom Ingersoll and her Daughter and Son In 'Law,
I can share stories these people making these Historic Films only read about.

This was when St. Joseph , mo. Had heart. Just before the new Mayor elected at this very time decided St. Joseph was getting to old and he started Urban Renewal. Republican Stanley I. Dale was the beginning of the fall of a very prosperous City. I know because I was there. More business's fell during his time in office than any other time and it continued falling as a Union City into a Right to work Republican City closing the Stock Yards and Packing Houses as well as the big Grain Elevators. When you see the run down areas of St. Joseph, They at one time in my day were the better areas to live.
I to am a Historian and report on not what those in power want you to believe, But what those who built and maintained the City. The Citizen's. My family Tre's branch out in several of those who have dictated their propaganda. I lived the real life not the well padded and nursed life.

    • @RevolutionMuscle

No you just report what your ideology tells you to. Unions put companies out of business, not republicans.

@RevolutionMuscle You know nothing about a union or what it takes to work a job for 40 plus years for the largest employer in this GREAT NATION. By the way, we are the TEAMSTERS of United Parcel Service, yes the example of what great benefits are, top I repeat TOP wages and honest hardworking UNION brothers and sisters look like!!! WE are the backbone for how our GODLY country started!!! Take your ideas some where else 😉

I was also in the AFof L / CIO Brewers Union at M. K, Goetz Brewery. Where both Elmar Pittam, and George Sherwood both my Uncles were the old Original Stewarts. LOL I owned a Coast to Coast Trucking Company and I personally Entered it into the Union both in Moscow Ohio and Versailles Ohio as well as the Chicago / Bridgeview, Illinois Locals. @@thirty-fivecostello7533 You make me laugh when you say I know nothing about the Unions. Sir! I worked under Unions most of my life and all of my family were Union Members. I also owned a Trucking Company and my driver's were all UNIION! I supported the UNION . I was raised a democrat and that was the only way. BUT today, being a Democrat is as bed as being a Communist. NO! I Do NOT support most Republicans. I support the People and have beeen an advocate most likely more years than you have lived. I have not only Congressional Recognition but was also recognized bt President Obama on 11 / 11/2017 I have also been recoghized by the then Commander of te Missouri Air National Guard and given an ezcourt by them when I traveled there in a 1901 Oldsmobile Replica in 2014. I was even recognized bt the City Police Department as well as many V. F. W. Veteran's. In which I am a Life member, from St. Joseph, Missouri when they were on St. Joseph Avenue in the Old Lincoln School. I am still serving and am still recieving recognition by many Dignaties. The republicans of the 50's and 60's killed Labor and Unions. Thompson was for the Right to work Laws and Green River Laws. Stanley I Dale and Bill Bennett were two of the biggest reasons then they had the Idiot Arthur J. Meer's, You never knew what he was, He was a true flake. I date back way before my birth because my family was the Labor forces that ran most of the Unions and leadership in the WPA Days. We were always raised knowing what our fore fathers did. The Lovel's, Adair's, the Duncan's, and the Taylor's. McDonalds and Chellew's and Bill and Roy Doty. If you know anything about History in the North end those names are very prominent as is the Clark's and Clarke's, and the Mach's and Dexter's and Ellis's. Logston's Angel's and Ingels . I can name names of people who actually worked and built St. Joseph. Not just what these pwople write from a few rich peoples words.
