Royal Expressions Contemporary Ballet is a dance company, a school, and outreach community partner that strives to promote good character and healthy living through programs that celebrate the love and joy of dance.
The company was founded in 2009 by our fearless leader, Princess Johnson. Under her leadership, Royal Expressions has served over 350 students at our studios, over 500 students through our outreach programs and partnerships, and have performed for over 2000 audience members. She has produced seven productions and is currently producing her eighth, the Hair Journey. She is an advocate for Black artists and arts organizations in Greensboro and beyond. She has hosted leading dance leaders at Royal Expressions including Misty Copeland and Alicia Graf Mack. She is an ABT certified Ballet teacher along with two other staff members at Royal Expressions.
Royal Expressions, despite many challenges, has remained committed to their mission and have made great strides to fulfill the vision to be an innovative dance company and school that promotes healthy living. As we look forward and approach 15 years we are asking for your support to move into our next level.
Moving from 2 to 4 studios will allow us to expand our current class offerings to adults and also increase the number of children we serve.
Dance combats depression, anxiety, and stress.
Dance promotes physical fitness, good nutrition and healthy living.
We are a place where happiness and healthy living thrives.
We are where Black artists can create, study, and excel.
We are advocates for arts equity in funding and opportunities for historically disadvantaged groups in Greensboro and beyond.
We are a hub for dance to thrive in Greensboro and beyond.
More office space means better productivity and work flow so that we can better serve our community.
The purpose of the campaign is multifold:
To cover the cost of moving which will include the rental deposit, upfit costs for dance flooring and furniture, and moving fees
To increase hours and pay for current staff as well as hire new staff to accommodate the anticipated growth with the move
To pay dance artists and produce The Hair Journey Ballet
To build a hub for Black artists to find support and space to practice their craft
To ensure a sustainable future for Royal Expressions
    Our expected outcomes:
Move into a 6000 square foot facility ready to build to suite. The facility will have four dance studios, a retail store, a multi-purpose room, three office spaces, two art studios, and plenty of storage to house costumes and other supplies.
Current employees will also have increased pay and work hours. Within 2 years of being in the space, at least two employees will be able to convert to full-time staff members.
Immediately hire at least two more dance teachers and two more outreach instructors to accommodate the growing student population which is expected to double within two years of moving and demand for outreach programs with our partners.
The facilities will be available for other arts organizations, artists, nonprofit organizations, and small businesses to use and serve as a hub for collaboration and support with a priority on uplifting and supporting Black artists.
Thank you for helping us celebrate 15 years of dancing, teaching, and inspiring Greensboro and beyond!
