  • Introducing, "2020: Year of the Woman" choreographed by Amma Waddell. This is the second installment of IMPACT 2020, a collection of short dance films to reflect and look ahead as we continue to make sense of how our world has changed not just because of the pandemic, but all that the pandemic exposed about race, healthcare, education, and so much more. All projects are created using COVID-19 safe methods of distance rehearsals and communication.
This work was created to shed light on the voice and impact of the Black woman in 2020. From the brutal murder of Breonna Taylor at the hands of law enforcement to witnessing Vice President Kamala Harris take office, it is important we understand, listen, and value Black women who are often taken for granted. This song and dance aims to uplift and empower the Black woman, yet also encourage others to join in the celebration of Black women.
This piece came together through video and Zoom rehearsals, then was filmed in Downtown Greensboro and also at Bennett College.
We do not own rights to "Pretty Brown Skin", but have been given express permission from Eugene Kiing to use this song.
