I was surprised by Carly's reaction there, it was as if she disapproved, but a stranger pulled a gun on one of Amos' friends and Amos did what Amos does. You fuck with a crew member of the Rocinante and you are playing with fire!
You may remember that when Miller collared that young water thief, the kid mentioned that all the gangsters had left Ceres. Also, when the big bald guy skewered Havelock, he called it a "going away present." So we see where they went. Miller showed the first and harshest signs of radiation poisoning because he's a puny poorly raised Belter, while Holden is a genetically engineered kid from a pristine organic Earth environment. Amos was concerned about the little girl. Yes, he has a soft spot for kids. Yes, things happened to him as a kid. If you remember when Amos and Holden were repairing that antenna, Amos stated that he didn't know whether it would be a good thing or a bad thing to kill Holden...he depended on Naomi's judgment. You'll see more of that as Amos' character and backstory is unpeeled like an onion. If you noticed, Amos has also always been attentive to Naomi's welfare, so Semi essentially committed suicide pulling a gun on her. Holden said he had never shot anyone before Eros, and I'm not sure he actually shot anyone during the mele getting off Eros. I think he's still a "homicide virgin." Did you notice the first time we met Frank DeGraaf, he was writing with a pencil in a paper notebook...in a world where everyone used hand terminals. Avasalara would know that wasn't just an eccentricity of her old friend, which is why she went for his pencils. The scientist Dresden and Jules-Pierre Mao don't seem to know what the Protomolecule is or does. Dresden says that what they're learning will "save us all." The spy's name was Kenzo. Remember that Kenzo had a lot of electronic implants. I think the Protomolecule was fascinated by Kenzo's implants that were kind of a hybrid of organics and electronics...I think what it learns from Kenzo that might give it a way to leap from organic forms to electronic devices.
To add to why Miller was effected more, aside from being a Belter, he was also in the chamber longer. Holden realizes what’s happening, yells to get out, and runs out but Miller just turns and questions him while leaving more slowly because he didn’t understand why Holden was running out in such a panic.
"Something must've happened to him as a kid." As someone who's seen the four seasons of the TV show and is about to start reading the 7th book in the book series, all I'll say is you have no idea how insane the environment he comes from is.
*Going to bed* "Oh, lemme check this youtube thingy, see if there's anything new" *Carly's new Expanse video is out. 2nd of the day for that matter* ... WHO NEEDS TO SLEEP ANYWAYS?
13:23 funny you say that cause in the book, the infected people actually turn into vomit puking zombies and it's pretty much a horror show for Miller and Holden while they're escaping. Crisjen is #3 in the UN and the other guy, Errinwright, is #2.
Also in the book, they explain what the protomolicule does to human bodies...and that is just as horrifying since it like the hell side of the Garden of Earthly Delights.
Omg I'm so jealous gurl! You get to watch all these seasons for the first time all at once, and I had to wait a year between them😝 I love how much you are liking this show; welcome to the screaming firehawks gurl! P.S. thank you for getting both videos up on the same day. It was nice bedtime treat for me 💜💜
Whenever there is a conversation and you see Amos walking away in the background, watch out. And Avasarala is all about Earth and preventing war with Mars. Its not so much self serving as trying to stay ahead of the dangerous game where the vulnerable don't just leave but get murdered. To protect Arjun she is asking him to go to Luna with the grandkids.
Love your theories, right and wrong. You're kind of right that season 1 has been setting up season 2's events. Yes. So imagine thinking your own daughters death is worth it for whatever this protomolecule is and/or does. And yes, this show is probably the best I've seen at presenting characters who are not all good or bad and who do what they think is the right thing, even though you can always see the validity of the opposing view. You'll also notice that the characters all have interesting and believable arcs, and there are some awesome characters yet to be introduced. Can't wait to watch season 2 with you. Thanks!
Oh my sweet summer child. You are not prepared......but you will have a blast getting there. 😉 The problem was never the proto-molecule. It always has been and always will be humanity. Welcome to The Expanse.
Just to clear some points you seems confused about. Spoiler free: Julie and her merry OPA band knew about the protomolecule thanks to the "data broker" that we see Miller investigating. The guy with the ID spoofer that got killed during the riots on Ceres. That's how the OPA got wind of something worthwhile being moved out of Phoebe station and so they launched a mission to intercept and steal it that went south. Julie was then captured but in the end was the only one alive because something went wrong on the Anubis and the blue goo ate everyone. Julie then managed to get onto the Anubis's shuttle and to Eros where she died due to the PM infection. Then Mao's goons found here there, managed to salvage a sample from her body and used it to do their thing. "We got lucky" the science guy said to Mao because their original plan was screwed by the Anubis getting lost, but somehow they ended up being able to go on with their "experiment" thanks to Julie landing on Eros. Frank De Graaf was Avasarala's friend, the Earth's ambassador on Mars that she used to expose Mars stealth tech hubs in order to find out if Mars was selling stealth tech to the OPA. Turns out they didn't because the stealth ships that attacked the Canterbury are Mao's ship. And are built on Earth at the Bush Naval Shipyard. Fred Johnson tells it to everyone thanks to the data chip recovered from the body of lt.Lopez, the Martian that got Holden and the boys out of the exploding Donnager. De Graaf was doing some fake "consultant" work at the docks after he got expelled from Mars, likely in order to investigate why that OPA smuggler had stealth tech. He somehow discovered that those stealth ships were built on Earth before Fred Johnson said the same, and that got him killed. Errinwright is Avasarala's boss and Earth n°2 power after the Secretary General. He's saying that Jonhson is lying and those ships aren't built on Earth but he doesn't know that Avasarala has recovered the data that De Graaf got out of the docks that was saved on the pencil-like data drive she got from his office. So she knows Erringwright is lying and she's playing along because she knows something fishy is going on an she wants to stay in the game. That's why she sends her husband and grandchildren to the Moon, so that they can't use them as leverage against her in case she got exposed.
Omg, Feb 2020: "This is my worst nightmare, being in a closed scenario with people who are infected with something." Sorry that fear turned out to be not so irrational - so prescient!
Season 1: This is not a weapon, this is effin' monster... Season 2: This is not a monster, this is effin' [spoiler]... Season 3: This is not a [spoiler], this is effin' [spoiler]...
not sure if you recognized, the bald guy Miller shot from the elevator was "Filat Kothari" the guy who nailed Havelock to the wall. as he said in the video he made it was a "good bye present" to Ceres and he was on to "bigger and better", meaning was hired w/the rest of the Ceres gangs to do this work on Eros, interesting that Mao's people decided to rid the belt of some gangs in their little experiment.
"That's not a weapon. That's a fucking monster." I mean, you're not wrong. Just you wait! LOL. It's fun watching people fall down the rabbit hole that is The Expanse. You're in it now. You're a Screaming Firehawk for life. Welcome to the churn!
Some time ago, TH-cam recommended me your channel. I normally don't subscribe to reaction-type channels because its not my thing. However when I find myself, without a moments thought, immediately clicking the link when TH-cam shows me a brand new video on The Expanse reactions (not even an hour after it was posted) that I find myself hitting the subscribe button. Somehow your way of doing it, at least from what I can tell, is a somehow keeping my attention. Whether its your style, your genuine interest in something that you took a chance on that I find dear to my heart (The Expanse again) that I like more. Can't wait to go through the rest of your videos!
I think you and FailWhale34 are the best Expanse Reactors at the moment, along with my homie Scriptonite. Your analysis is pretty on point and I'm enjoying the interest you have in the show. Season 1 is great, but it only gets better from here :)
'You say wait so we wait, boss.' You're gonna find out more about Amos and the rest of them and where they came from. It will be fun to see your reaction to season 2. If you enjoyed season 1, you're in for a treat. The first half of season 2 is a ride. Actually pretty much the rest of the show from here on out is a ride. You will see why this show was recommended!
"Season 1 is just prequel"...This is the best description of season one. It really is just a prequel to the rest of the series. You can consider the next episode you watch to be the true Episode #1.
And yeah, Eros was a horror show in the books. Zombies, living biomass and still self-aware nervous systems from people being used as puppets to the Protomolecule.
Glad your liking the show and your very observant! Glad you pointed out how much the world building & details matter in this show. And Naomi & Holden are cute I love them!
It s called the Churn! But you may want to wait until after Season 2. Lot’s of character building still coming as characters are dynamic like real life. they learn things and experience new things so they change over time!
One thing that I don't think that the show properly covers is the extent to which Holden and Miller were dying. Like, in the books it says that the Roci gang had to replace Holden's thyroid and most of Miller's colon or they'd both die. That's some pretty complex surgery for ppl with virtually no medical experience. That could have definitely been shown in the show
Enjoying your reaction while waiting for 5. This show has some of the best "bad guys" ever. One great one after another. And the reason is because they are 3 dimensional and not "evil". They have their own agendas.
Amos is a bit of a psychopath, but he does have a soft spot for children. He also cares about Naomi whom he has chosen as his moral compass because he believes she is a good person so following her lead is more likely to be right than any decision he might make on his own. He's also starting to see the rest of the crew that way. His nickname mostly among the female fandom is "Murder Snuggles".
Most of your questions will be answered by the show in future episodes. What was never answered is why some people wanted a war between Earth and Mars, I figured that it was just a power move.
Jules-Pierre wanted Julie away from the Belt because he knew shit was about to go down, which was why Miller got the case in the first place. Find Julie Mao, detain her, ship her home. Once she turned up dead, there was no way in which her Dad could alter that fact, so the plan continues forward.
5:52 'No women, no kids.' 7:54 He is dying of radiation... Give him a break. :) 9:33 Remember that he is a "cute psychopath" ;) 10:44 That is a funny part :D 12:17 He got eaten by the GBG monster... and not in the good way... :) 14:05 Sometimes he's both :)
The show does not explain itself until the end of season 3. All of this is setup and the books that season 1 to 3 encapsulate end mid season so stories will seem to end but leave questions.
Also most people don't realize that The Expanse books were just world building ideas for a video game. So there are stories within stories and conclusions that are part of the whole because they were meant to be solution sections for a video game.
@@rnkelly36 Nope, not even close. There are a ton of videos on it and a wiki, if you are actually interested, but Ty Franck (former assistant to George RR Martin) was paid to write/create backstory/world elements for an MMO that never got past the basic outline stage. The actual characters were developed when he and his friend, Daniel Abraham, RP'd the game using his world, with a group of their friends. The guy playing Shed stopped showing up so his character died. The actual plot/story elements came when they started outlining the scope of 12 books (3 of which were scraped).....since Daniel Abraham is a pretty darn good author all on his own.
@@jrich749 They actually got a game in testing phase in which RR Martin played an investigator. The point is that most people don't read for the history of a show or idea. The Expanse lost is SYFY production because it was expensive to make and just not pulling the viewership to maintain it. Thank God for Amazon and Netflix with their deep pockets. The story is built for that MMO world. It reminds me more of Mass Effect rather than a TV show and the book series is akin to Foundation. I know us sci fi/fantasy fans don't like to admit it but the popularity of what is coming available now with streaming services is a credit to the power of a smaller fan base other than general pop culture fandom. This is why it is a fun time to be a niche viewer.
chrisjen is a whole lot smarter then she seems, juile knew about cos it was her fathers experiment, and everything gets so much better from here. miller is great and Amos does like kids.
I think almost no one falls on the spectrum of good and evil. Everyone is out for their own self interest which is always good for them.....even though its likely evil for someone on the other side. Every "bad guy" thinks they are the hero of their own story. Welcome to the human condition while our world burns.
DUDE! Read The Churn, Amos is our psycho teddy-bear. Jules-Pierre is fully a POS. Truer words were never spoken. I love watching you react, seeing just how closely you are tracking for the most part. Tell whomever taught you logic and reasoning thank you, because they did a bang-up job. Chrisjen's colleague is Sadavir Errinwright, keep a close eye on him. Miller's former partner is Sematimba, he's the guy who gave Miller the hat. You may have seen him on Orphan Black, another AMAZING show that I highly recommend watching if you haven't yet. Looking forward to the ride through two with you.
So no answers but a new question: Avasarala has realised that she screwed up; that she was playing the old games. So did The Spy when he was begging to get onto the Rocinante. You mention the protomolecule being scary. That it could rapidly do its own thing. And yeah, that seems pretty clear. When will Jules Pierre Mao and friends realise they've screwed up and that there's a new game? Will they? And will they realise soon enough? For that matter, has Avasarala?
one of the great things about this show is no character is just evil for evil's sake. The "villains" have arguable points as you'll soon see (no spoilers).
Keep in mind that book 1 actually ends on season 2 episode 5, so you'll get more answers and "somewhat" better closure at that point. Also, the guy Miller shot and said he had it coming was the guy who nailed his partner to the wall back on Ceres.
Miller's friend is Detective Semitamba, "Semi" for short. They grew up together as street rats on Ceres, until Semi had the idea they should become cops. Miller hooked up with Star Helix on Ceres, while Semi placed with another agency on Eros. Semi gave Miller his hat when he left. Crisjen is the Deputy Undersecretary General of the UN, #3 in the line of succession. Hers is an appointed position. Her father was Secretary-General during the Vesta blockade. Her immediate superior is her former protege, Sadavir Errinwright, the UN Undersecretary General, #2 in succession. (I'm pretty sure he was also appointed, but I could be wrong.) The #1 spot is held by UN Secretary General Esteban Sorrento-Gillis, who was definitely elected. We'll learn more about him over the next couple of seasons. Remember what Anderson Dawes said of Earthers? That they arrogantly believe that everything they look upon is theirs to control? The planets, the moons, the asteroids, even the stars themselves. They seem to have no concept of anything exceeding their mastery. So, a bunch of Earth scientists discover this living substance frozen in the ice of Phoebe, and the first thing they do is start experimenting on it to learn how to control it. Now take a look at Kenzo the spy's last living moment. Did the Protomolecule look "under control" to you?
You got it right on the mark! The protomolecule is the process of learning, assimilating and building! And Amos, Amos is the man you wanna be watching your back! He'll do everything that you couldn't. He's got no moral compass, just a tunnel vision of what is right and wrong!
Nice analysis Carly, some food for thought. Imagine you're a scientist in a cutting edge firm for biotech. Imagine if you find samples of extra solar life. Imagine if you find out that this thing is able to subvert and morph other organic thing to some unknown purpose. Now imagine if you got the perfect opportunity to conduct the biggest lab rat experiment using millions of Belters as unwilling volunteers. Julie creating an infection point on Eros was just a random unplanned event. They repurposed that event into something more practical since 99% of the pop on Eros is Belters and they view them as less than human. Meanwhile, scientists are justifying this because this isn't some lava volcano science fair project. The outcome of this experiment might change humanity forever in terms of tech advancement. Still makes them horrible turds, but there is logic behind the madness.
Eros was always where the experiment was meant to take place. They had planned this for a long time (you cannot make stealth ships in a matter of months nor can you relocate all gang activity half way across the belt on the drop of the hat. Its takes weeks to travel the belt, months to travel the system.
I'm sure you are way ahead now but. Of the factions of the world you have been introduced to this season. Who could you honestly trust with this stuff? No single party is truly right or wrong.
There's no way to get into it without spoilers, but once you finish episode 2x05 I'll give a comment on why Julie and Miller might have a connection despite having never met
I don't say The Expanse is bad, but this world-building actually bothers me, especially since the new season is going through the same process again. It's not that much the fault of the tv series, as much as the novel series (some books are separated even by several months long period). Luckily the season two is going to be lit.
Mao and his cohorts were in fact trying to weaponize the protomolecule...but the original makers of the protomolecule have *vastly* different intentions 👽
What the hell? So don't listen to her. No need to be a dick about it. What makes you think she doesn't read? I read a crap ton, and watch shows and game. It is possible to do more than one thing. What did she say that made it so you "can't listen to her" anymore?
That bald guy that Miller shot in the face is the one who impaled Havelock (Miller's partner) in the earlier episodes.
"Ha, of course Amos listens. 😊 He doesn't caaarreee" 😊 *BAM* 😨😲
I was surprised by Carly's reaction there, it was as if she disapproved, but a stranger pulled a gun on one of Amos' friends and Amos did what Amos does. You fuck with a crew member of the Rocinante and you are playing with fire!
Chrisjen isn't self-serving. She really is mission-oriented and her mission is "Earth must come first."
She's the best book character and show. Same with Amos.
Just when you think you got Amos figured out.
murdersnuggles ftw.

This! All of this!!!
I would not call Holden genetically modified....any more than all of the UN and all of Mars. He has no special powers/abilities.
@@jrich749 he is literally made up from the DNA of 8 different people. Superpowers or not, that definitely counts as genetically modified
@@jrich749 I said "genetically engineered," which he certainly was.

You have some great questions. I'm very much looking forward to your reactions to the rest of the series.
When you're in a bar fight or any type of fight, Amos is the dude you want on your side for sure.
Yoooo 2 Expanse drops in 1 day?! Christmas came early this year 🎅🤶
Hope they release weekly or I'll have to see it with one shot.

To some extent Amos looks to someone like Naomi as a guide. It's simple and he does what he thinks is necessary.
The exact nature of the protomolecule won't be until then end of S3. But you'll have an idea of the why what happened on Eros in 2.02 Doors & Corners.
Amos is called "Murder Snuggles" by the TV crew.
Two in one day? What a blessing.
I have been waiting All Day for this to drop. I was hoping you bunched these 2 episodes in one day. Yes!

This show has its hooks in you, girl. Understandable. It's fun watching you process the show. It's like watching for the first time.
It just gets better! Cant wait for you to reacto to season 2 and 3, the show really hits the bar and you will never grow tired of it.

Every time you get answers, there will be more questions. And the pace just accelerates from here. Welcome to the #screamingfirehawks!
Let's go cant wait to watch. It just keeps getting better and better
Monster you say... You close.
"So really Julie's Dad without seeing a lot of him, I'm already gathering that he's kind of a piece of shit."
nice
Damn I love how she get things time to sub
Enjoying your reaction while waiting for 5. This show has some of the best "bad guys" ever. One great one after another. And the reason is because they are 3 dimensional and not "evil". They have their own agendas.
Amos is a bit of a psychopath, but he does have a soft spot for children. He also cares about Naomi whom he has chosen as his moral compass because he believes she is a good person so following her lead is more likely to be right than any decision he might make on his own. He's also starting to see the rest of the crew that way. His nickname mostly among the female fandom is "Murder Snuggles".
If you are playing along, now wait a year to see how it continues :)
"Miller is fucking ruthless".
Me: Almost as ruthless as Amos.
Most of your questions will be answered by the show in future episodes. What was never answered is why some people wanted a war between Earth and Mars, I figured that it was just a power move.
More like a power play. How do you keep the largest two fleets, in The Expanse, off your back?
time for s2 :D
Jules-Pierre wanted Julie away from the Belt because he knew shit was about to go down, which was why Miller got the case in the first place. Find Julie Mao, detain her, ship her home. Once she turned up dead, there was no way in which her Dad could alter that fact, so the plan continues forward.
Keep. Watching.
The bald guy Miller shot was the guy who impaled his partner earlier in the season. He did have it coming.
5:52 'No women, no kids.' 7:54 He is dying of radiation... Give him a break. :)
9:33 Remember that he is a "cute psychopath" ;)
10:44 That is a funny part :D
12:17 He got eaten by the GBG monster... and not in the good way... :)
14:05 Sometimes he's both :)
Think bigger, much bigger
Dejavu? Oh wait, it's a new episode in the same day
Season 2 is comming....
Well girl, Season 2 is gonna blow your mind! :)
chrisjen is a whole lot smarter then she seems, juile knew about cos it was her fathers experiment, and everything gets so much better from here. miller is great and Amos does like kids.
it was a serilization chamber....
Visit Eros, they said. It'll be fun they said.
Will you react to Orange is the new black season 7?
I agree that most people fall on that spectrum of good and evil. However I think that Julie Mao is one of the purest characters in adult fiction.
So no answers but a new question:
Avasarala has realised that she screwed up; that she was playing the old games.
For that matter, has Avasarala?
well, considering how fast the corona virus is spreading, the fear of being quarantined isn't all that irrational anymore
The past, present, and future walk into a bar, and it got pretty tense... (huh? huh? sry, I'll stop now.)
one of the great things about this show is no character is just evil for evil's sake. The "villains" have arguable points as you'll soon see (no spoilers).
Listen people, I know you're excited. But you have to stop these spoilery comments
Keep in mind that book 1 actually ends on season 2 episode 5, so you'll get more answers and "somewhat" better closure at that point. Also, the guy Miller shot and said he had it coming was the guy who nailed his partner to the wall back on Ceres.
reaction vampaire diaries please
He's got no moral compass, just a tunnel vision of what is right and wrong!
for me TOP Seasons : 1.Season2 2.Season3 3.Season1 4. Season4
Why that sinks in. We have been introduced to a few factions in season 1, who could you honestly trust with this.
Eros was always where the experiment was meant to take place. They had planned this for a long time (you cannot make stealth ships in a matter of months nor can you relocate all gang activity half way across the belt on the drop of the hat. Its takes weeks to travel the belt, months to travel the system.
Eros is way more horrific in the books. You realy should read them (or listen to the audiobooks)
Beltalowda
I'm sure you are way ahead now but. Of the factions of the world you have been introduced to this season. Who could you honestly trust with this stuff? No single party is truly right or wrong.
I don't think Amos sees grey it's just white and black you're either a good person or a bad one
More like you're a threat / obstacle or not IMO. And if you are, you end or he ends. Nothing personal.
You seem really nice, but I cannot listen to you anymore. Please read more and stop looking at screens as much.
Asshole
What the hell? So don't listen to her. No need to be a dick about it. What makes you think she doesn't read? I read a crap ton, and watch shows and game. It is possible to do more than one thing. What did she say that made it so you "can't listen to her" anymore?
IS YOU OKAY?!?
I detect a tool.
Thaddius Leiber You came here to watch me look at a screen, so I am unsure what your point is. Regardless, thanks for stopping by!
