    Love watching your videos...I have watched the show all the way through twice (well, only once for S4) and this is a great way to enjoy the show all over again! It's really great that you are not the stereotypical sci-fi geek, but are getting hooked on how great REAL sci-fi can be!

    Somethingi to remember for future seasons is the depth to which Martians are totally committed to the dream of terraforming their planet. Frank DeGraaf spoke about it their absolute dedication to it. Lt Lopez saved Holden's crew, and "to see an ocean on Mars" were his dying words. Gunnery Sergeant Bobbie Draper constantly looks at visions of a green Mars. Just keep in mind for the future that a green Mars is the sole, unifying reason for existence for many Martians.
    Bobbie Draper was
    Notice that Jules-Pierre was more concerned about the broader implications of the Protomolecule, while Errinwright was only concerned about getting weapons.
    Miller had to take a shot for his friend Semitembe. They had grown up together. So he had to take a shot, even though it was obvious he couldn't win.

    5:51 Terraforming Mars is definitely possible, but it also would be a matter of time, it would take a century (or two..) at least to terraform with current technology unless there was some sort of enormous breakthrough. Growing plant life and enriching the soil with nutrients would not be difficult but it could only happen *AFTER* the planet had a thick gaseous atmosphere and therein lies the difficult and slow part. There is no way that we could drop enough oxygen (and other atmospheric gases) on Mars as it is totally unfeasible, it would take millions upon millions of trips, what we would have to do instead is either locate those gases on Mars (in subterranean pockets, or frozen in the Martian icecaps) and find a way to release them, or we would have to introduce a bacteria or fungi to Mars that creates gases as a byproduct of it munching on Martian soil.

    Hmm... just a thought... in a sci-fi show that deals with multiple inhabited planets and habitats, is it still called world-building or should it be worlds-building? :P
    As for the shipyards, there are two things to keep in mind. Johnson said that he tracked the engines back to a Earth shipyard. That doesn't necessarily means the entire ship was built there. It's possible someone aquired those engines and then moved them off-planet.
    Though more importantly Earth has a mix of govermental operated and private shipyards. Just because the engines were built on Earth doesn't mean the UN was involved.
    Those engines could have been sold to literally anyone. Earth military, Mars, Belters,... if they knew just who to bribe and had sufficient cash even pirates could have been the buyers - very unlikely, but possible.

      fun fact, "world" gets its root from a word that refers to the collective affairs of humanity in a given era.
      I think that means 'worlds' isnt necessary until you start looking at other timelines 🙃

    His name is Jules-Pierre Mao, Jules is pronounced "sh-ool"- it's French so the last couple of letters aren't pronouned! Also, while Bobbi in the show is amazing, she's nothing physically compared to the books- she's meant to be well over 2 metres (over 6"5) and 100kg (220 lb) of muscle, I'd have definately loved to have seen that!

    • @TheDetailsMatter
      @TheDetailsMatter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mao's first name is hyphenated, the J is a "Zh," and the s is silent. "Zhoolpierre." (We all just call him JPM, for simplicity.)
      DeGraf is pronounced as spelled.
      "The Protomolecule does something different each time. We can only learn by letting it learn."
      Weaponizing the Protomolecule. Imagine a gang of monkeys see a priest hold off a vampire by holding up a cross. One monkey puts two sticks together and tries to hold off the other monkeys. Doesn't work. After being beaten within an inch of his life, the monkey sneaks into the priest's room and steals his cross. Still doesn't work on the other monkeys, so he tries it on the vampire. Does the monkey have Christian faith? No. World's first vampire monkey. He won't be the last....

      You are correct in saying that the "es" at the end of "Jules" is not pronounced at all. That noun, however, is not pronounced sh-ool in French. The French "j" is closer to its English counterpart than a "sh" sound. The chinese "Zh" is indeed a lot closer. The English "j" sounds like a "dj" sound to French ears. The french "u" sound doesn't exist in English. It's supposed to sound like the german "ü", for example.
      Bobbi in the books is certainly even more impressive physically than Frankie Adams but I feelthe actress is a perfect casting for the character nonetheless!

    • @TheDetailsMatter
      @TheDetailsMatter 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      kerlyenai. The character pronounces it "zhoolpierre". It may or may not be entirely correct but It's his preferred pronunciation, and that's my key metric.

      @@TheDetailsMatter I understand. I was just reacting to Ani Searle's comment because she said "sh-ool" was the French pronunciation for "Jules". BTW I love the dedication, attention to detail and depth of analysis of the "Expanse" fan base!

    Science Nugget 1 for today: Meet MCRN Gunnery Sergeant Roberta Draper. Specialty: Badass. Why is she a badass (besides story and drama)? Because SCIENCE! makes her work harder
    Fact 1 - Women generally have less muscle mass than men.
    Fact 2 - Science shows living in low gravity (Mars,The Belt and stations ) causes the body to become weaker as the body endures less strain (bone densty and muscle mass lower) than an Earther.
    Fact 3 - We learn MCRN Martians train simulating 1G to fight Earthers on Earth if need be!

      @Michael Gonzalez
      RE : "Fact 2 - Science shows living in low gravity (Mars,The Belt and stations ) causes the body to become weaker as the body endures less strain (bone densty and muscle mass lower) than an Earther. "
      Not "weaker"
      Less dense and less bone and muscle density.
      That doesn't necessarily translate to "weaker" - especially for the environments they are in.
      The human body adapts to the environment it is in.
      Which means that in a low gravity environment it will carry less bone and muscle density (and even shed it) as it does not need that much to operate in such environments and is actually a hamper to the heart to have to carry that much more density in a low g environment. This is primarily because often times those environments are also low(er) oxygen and low atmosphere (less than Earth's 1 Atmosphere ) environment so there's less oxygen available for the heart and lungs to be able to efficiently feed more muscles for the strength necessary to carry all that extra density and resist more gravitational pull
      So their bodies are as strong as they need to be for their environment, and I guess you could argue comparatively weaker when in a 1g Earth environment (which they're not adapted for.
      I guess the correlation would be, would you say that here on Earth, that a person that was born and lives at Sea level is weaker and less fit than someone who was born in high altitude (and who therefore likely has greater lug capacity due to the lower oxygen environment his body has adapted to)?
      Nobody would ever make that argument. The higher lung capacity guy's extra adaptation is mostly useless for most tasks at sea level that don't require exertion or running.

    Science Nugget 2 for today: You are correct. Miller is stupid crazy.
    A low gravity Belter vs standard gravity Earther.
    The Belter does not look like he works out. The Earther does.
    One of the two is Amos. The other one is not Amos.
