Trust me, this works. When I was in the delayed entry program as a poolee I was terrible at pull-ups. I wasn't weak but simply lacked the reps needed to do more than enough pull-ups. I went from straining to do 6 or 7 pull-ups, to doing at least 15 with ease within a month. I ultimately couldn't join because of an underlying heart condition. Still love pull-ups though.

I’m in your situation strength-wise 7-10 pull ups. Goal is 20. How long did you take to notice gains and how often did train this circuit per week? I’m 58 and workout about 4-5 times a week weights and walking.

Thanks, Marine! 4:38 "Enjoy the pain." When I was in, the saying was, "Embrace the suck," meaning whatever discomfort you're experiencing, learn to like it, then love it and wish it could suck more. Discomfort makes us learn and grow, whereas apathy, comfort and complacency lead to stagnation and weakness. Semper Fi

So I did 3 sets yesterday and managed to do only 4-3-2 pull ups after those 2 warm up exercises. When I woke up today I could feel my biceps pretty good and little bit of upper back too.I did the same today, but didn't manage to do as many reps and pull ups as yesterday, so tommorow I'm gonna rest, eat some protein and continue on monday. My problem might be weak left arm (had shoulder surgery 2 years ago), but that's not an excuse in any way.

    Hi.
How many sets should we perform? How long should we rest after each set?
In minute 3:58 you said that you recommend high reps, you also said that you do "20-20-20"... Does this mean you do 20 pull ups after doing the bicep curls and the lat pulls? if so, I'm guessing that this is an advanced work out... I don't think that many intermediate trainees can do more than 12 consecutive pull ups, especially if they first did bicep curls and lat pulls.
    Thank you.

I reckon weighted under control negative pullups are a better way to go.
Just put them dumbbells in to a backpack, put the backpack on and do pull ups, or do under controll slow negative pullups ny using something like a chair to get on the up position on to the bar then slowly do the negative pull ups.

Hi Michael, so I recently managed to f**k up my left shoulder doing bench press .. over did it I guess. Usually can manage about 5-8 pull-ups (proper ones) but as I my shoulder is a bit screwed right now do you have any suggestions for what I can do to recover it quicker and get back to working out. I’ve tried stretching it gently but all I’m doing is feeling it still hurting even more. I’m 41 and not a Marine (I wish I were but being a British Canadian and an artist by trade I’m not exactly Marine material. But I have a lot of USMC fans of my work so I have a lot of respect for you guys, and would appreciate any ideas you might have for me to sort out my shoulder. I’m fairly fit but haven’t been able to train for weeks now due to my shoulder.

Gemeingefährlicher Müller I get it, I’ve said the same thing when I was younger. But there’s a little more to it than that. I know a lot of guys that have been doing pull-ups for many years and they still suck. From my experience it’s just as important to train smart as well as hard. They’re not good at the smart part, running is the same way as are many other skills.

I've felt like there's something missing in my core strength and I like the principle of this technique. I'll do it every second week and hopefully if I remember will update my progress in a month or two. I'm 52 by the way. Edit: dated Sunday 28 March 2021.

Does it work for chin up also? I can do only 5 chin up with proper form.. I need to make it 15.

Work on overgrip pull-ups first, this video works most of the upper body muscles required to do either under or overgrip pull-ups.
      However, once you master;
      Dead hang
      Overgrip Pull Up
      Negative pull up
      Regular Push ups (proper form)
Getting 15 will be a piece of cake.
I would recommend you to work mostly on overgrip pull-ups and push-ups, with enough time, proper training, a good diet, and discipline your body will do the rest.
The easier overgrip pull-ups are for you, the more undergrip pulls-ups you will get.

    Hi Michael!
First of all thanks for sharing all this stuff!
    Now..
Other "How to do more pull-ups videos" speak about the importance of scapula engagement and they suggest to do 5x5 setps and reps to increase your pull ups and stranth (2 sessions per week).
    I was wandering,
How many sessions per week do you recommend?
And what do you think about the scapula idea?

You see the swaying he does when he’s curling ? We all do it. If you post your back up against something for instance the pull-up bar post, that stabilization will ensure your getting nice clean reps every time. When you sway your form tends get sloppier as you gone on. Then once you knock out the curls you can easily transition into the bent over rows no problem.
