Buying a 1998 V70 Turbo this weekend! 🎉 3” dual exhaust, boost & air/fuel gauges, new Blaupunkt receiver, upgraded yellow fogs.
Needs a bit of love, hood latch, speed sensors on the wheels, reverse intercooler, clear corners = FUN!!

    Okay, bangernomics explained.
A couple of years back I bought a tidy Range Rover for £3500.
    It’s bought, it’s paid for…the end.
I admit that I’ve poured a few quid in to it to make as damn near perfect as I can…but I needn’t have…that was purely my choice.
Despite everyone telling me that it would break down every five minutes, it hasn’t missed a beat in two years apart from a battery failure…but that’s motoring!
Yes it’s expensive to run, but not nearly as expensive to keep as some of those “cheap” economical cars which friends of mine run on finance deals.
    So it’s all relative.
My Range Rover is expensive motoring compared to a 1998 Fiat Punto. It is still cheap motoring though, compared to a 2020 VW Golf Blue Motion bought on finance…and it’s still a Range Rover!

Exactly this. I was having this conversation with my brother this week, who's looking to replace their car.
They are looking at cars that are £7-10k, which in the current market, are just inflated £5-6k cars in normal times.
So take your £8k car that is really only worth £6k, and add three years of depreciation and really the car you are spending £8-10k on is actually only a £3-4k car in real terms. Thankfully I think I've convinced him, he's now looking for a tidy S60 D5 for a couple grand instead of the modern expensive shite he's been sending me links to.

On your euro trip having the tdi must have saved a fortune. However I have 2x 850r's parked up and a tatty 850 t5 parked up. Have just bought a mint 850 estate 2.5 10v on a 97 plate. Few scuffs but interior like new (dark leather cd spec). Driving it home(first time in 850 on the road for maybe 10 years) so smooth and quiet compared to my v70 d5. Love the automotive in the 850 with sport mode, doesn't dither like the v70 d5 box. Going to t5 the 850 from the tatty one. Do agree the petrol 5cy is much better than the audi or volvo diesel. We only make do for the 50mpg+.

Hey Geoff, really enjoying your videos so far.
I would like to ask you or any of guys who reads a comments. What Volvo should I buy if we talking about 1995 - 2000 model years. I chose this timeline just because It's amazing quality tbh. Let's cross out T5 model just because a good one is out of my budget. I drove a lot of cars in the past but somehow manage to buy a Volvo and make it look as good as I can. I guess I just grow up to this point 😃😃😃 thank you once again for your videos.

Go for an 850 estate, 2.5 20v. I never warmed to the p80 v70 styling.

The difference in fuel price diesel Vs petrol must surely be a diving force now, has been almost 10p per litre more than petrol. Would be interested to see what fuel economy you get... as you said the investment in this is minimal, with 12 months MOT you're in the money!

The NA 2.4/2.5 Volvo engine typically lasts 250k-300k miles without a rebuild. And it's really not worth rebuilding considering the number of them out there. In theory, the typical person can drive cars their entire LIFE using 3 of these. Mind-boggling.

I’ve always kept a motor for 4-5 years at a time and the depreciation ends up sitting at £100.00 a month average
Which is probably a lot more than what your into on your cars but still good compared to buying new and swapping after 3years to start again

    I have a 2.5 NA V70. 2000W, 50000 miles. It's nice to drive but my 1997 940 LPT is still better.
