It can be best to start it aimed slightly above your target and drag it down towards the target. The timing of the animation will probably take practice though. Just know that it has 3 stages to its animation and during its middle stage it can be curved. You may have even accidentally done this a few times during the match causing some misses. But it’s hard to tell watching this what the actual problem was.
