    I think you hit the nail on the head when you described it as a gentleman’s edc. I love carrying mine to weddings etc. when I’m wearing a suit and want to keep my SAK slimline and classy but might need to open bottles or nip off loose threads or even tighten up a loose screw on someone’s chair. Ideal for that.

    Happy Wednesday again Mr. A. I have a regular 84mm Bantam which is 46 years old & I carried it in my pocket everyday to & from work for 34 years till I took early retirement 12 years ago , originally it had red economy scales (no scale tools) but 3 years ago I gave it a makeover & put new black scales with toothpick & tweezer on it, but I rarely use it nowadays. Till recently I never owned an Alox Bantam, but on the spur of the moment I bought one recently when my local Victorinox dealer had a 30% discount sale on a whole bunch of SAK's & I bought several including an Alox Bantam, a 91mm Compact & a few small 58mm SAK's . My Bantam is still in its box as I will probably give to a friend or neighbour as a gift. Its a well crafted little Gentleman's pocket carry especially with the most useful combo tool paired with a super sharp small blade.

      That’s great that you had so many years of use from your Bantam! I really like the super-sleek alox version but am very wary of carrying it in my pocket due to the lack of pocket clip… don’t want to lose it! So it doesn’t get toooooo much carry from me, but I do sometimes slip it into my wallet for times when ultra discrete is the order of the day 👍

    Want one of these to add to my collection. I have the Alox classic like you show in your video but the rest of my SAKs are 2 layers or more. They're all great but still thought this one would be great for a fifth pocket or perhaps riding in a sheath with some other tools but you still want a blade. Nice video 👍

    • @accoutrements4469
      @accoutrements4469  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a very nice little knife - strictly for light-ish use as it does somewhat lack strength due to being so thin and with so few tools to give it sturdiness. Very nice to have though. I do wish it had a keyring.

    I had one for years but only recently slimmed my EDC kit and reactivated the Bantam Alox. I am pairing it with the Knipex cobra xs (like you do) and the Victorinox signature. Last but not least i need screwdrivers for my MTBs, therefore I hacked a super lightweight bit wrench for 4mm precision bits and a few 1/4 inch ones. A video will follow.

    The Bantam is my weekday urban EDC. A blade and bottle opener will usually cover most of my large knife needs. Carry a 58mm like a Classic for scissors and you have a pretty minimal and cost-effective setup, albeit with two knives.

      Yes only for very minimal and light usage - you’re quite right about the scales, & I think the lack of ‘bulk’ provided by the very minimal toolset doesn’t help this either. Still think it’s a nice knife for very light use though ✌️

    Does anyone else try and create their own combos?
    For example, the side of the combo tool on the bantam could be a file, then going further still, couldn’t the combo tool be cut out of the back of the blade? Yes you’ll lose the flat head but I’m sure the end of the knife will do for flatheads and prob a few pozis.
    And then further still why isn’t the file on the classic a blade on one edge and an awl at the end. Someone must of taken combos to the extreme.

      @@accoutrements4469 Vic Spain claims on his TH-cam channel that 39 SAK's have been discontinued in Dec.2022 but some are still listed on Victorinox's main global website which only shows current production models. The Manager is gone but the Midnite-Manager remains, the alox Money clip is still there along with the 74mm Executive which Vic claimed is discontinued, the 84mm Tinker small is gone but the 84mm Sportsman is still there. Vic Spain is himself an authorized Victorinox retailer and I currently have on order from him for some scales & a discounted Silver-Tech Signature Lite. I guess he gleaned his info from the Victorinox 2023 Dealers catalogue but a number of models are still in production or large stocks of them are on hand. If he is correct in forecasting that by the end of 2023 the entire Delmont range of 85mm Evolution/EvoGrip models & the 130mm RangerGrip line will be gone, then now is the time to consider buying up any that suits your taste & pocket for your collection or EDC use & I EDC use the EvoGrip 14 ((been out of stock by me for a while) & the EvoGrips S17 & S18 - both of which are Lock Blade SAKS & therefore not UK legal.

    Super Tinker for me. I bent the combo tool more than once. It’s a totally dud Phillips. A failure as even a light pry-bar. Too light for flathead screwdriver of that size. A poor can opener. It’s ok as a cap lifter, and just as poor a wire stripper as the normal notch. The Compact lacks a reamer and Phillips. If you need a pen one is almost always available. I never need a corkscrew and a flat 1.5mm screwdriver is in my wallet. Next!

    • @accoutrements4469
      @accoutrements4469  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough comments but I think it depends what u need for edc. I used to equally think the combo tool was terrible (I’ve also bent 2 over the years!) but for real light duty stuff it’s passable. I always miss a dedicated Phillips driver on a SAK but I find the backside Phillips (like on the super tinker) is far from optimal as it’s in such a terrible position which really limits its use. A pen? Personally the pen has come in very useful for me many times when no other has been to hand. It all depends what you want to carry - for urban situations around home etc a Compact or Waiter or Cadet or even a Manager is plenty for me until I can get to better tools. If I’m heading out somewhere where I won’t have access to better tools then I’ll take bigger SAKs/other tools with me, but for urban carry the slimmer lighter models are just fine for my edc needs. I suppose that’s one of the good things about SAKs though - a ton of models depending on your preference! ✌️
