    Great video, Skylar. Thanks for posting. I've not looked into these foods, mostly because as I said in another comment elsewhere, my boy eats a raw/home prepared diet. But they sound like they're a great line of products; that's amazing that the company hasn't had any recalls. Even Nature's Variety had some years ago if I remember correctly. I appreciated that you broke down the ingredients and explained them in detail for any novices/uneducated.
    I think a video on grain inclusive vs grain-free would be interesting. I'm pretty knowledgeable about these topics, but new information is always coming out, and it never hurts to be reminded of familiar concepts.
    I went through this period when all I did was obsessively study dog food labels because I was super fascinated. I don't subscribe to the conspiracy theory that dog food companies are out to kill dogs and cats, but I do advocate for making very well-informed decisions if one is going to include commercial foods in their pets' diet. I also advocate for doing one's research if one's gonna home prepare. That's great that you're so passionate about these topics. Hey, I could totally see you owning a boutique pet store someday. I love going to local and small pet shops... way better customer service, plus I get to talk with people who are knowledgeable and we all learn from each other.
    Have you seen The Honest Kitchen's dog food clusters? Do you have any thoughts? I only get their dehydrated mixes from time to time. I don't think I'll get the clusters unless I can get a tiny bag to use as treats.
    Anyway, thanks for doing what you do. Take care.

    Thanks for this deep dive into Nutrisource. I've been feeding my dogs this for 15 years and always felt good about the quality and they're local to me in MN. However you give excellent perspective on the science of the product and reaffirmed my choice to continue to use this product. I will be using your food topper strategies to bolster my boxers' nutrition!

    Thank you for all the information in this video.
    I switched my GSD off of Nutrisource Large Breed puppy when she was about 10 months old. Her breeder started the whole litter on it, and I continued it because my sister had great results with her own dog. While my pup loved her meals, she always had extremely bad gas, and horrible breath.
    At about eight months old she began to refuse meals, poo started to be mushy, and she developed a rash that got progressively worse. I thought she might be allergic to chicken, so made the switch to raw. I've absolutely loved how well she is doing on raw! No more gas, no bad breath, and the rash cleared up! (Chicken is the first thing she'll choose out of her bowl, no adverse reactions!)
    But, with raw getting increasingly expensive I'm in a position where I am having to put her back on at least a partial kibble diet, and am researching for a good quality kibble.
    I didn't realize Nutrisource had a couple different formulas (only about 3-4 of their original options available locally) and now wonder if it might be worth a try to see how she would do on Purevita.
    If that doesn't work out, what other decent kibble brands would you recommend for a large breed?
    Thanks again for the info, I'm off to watch more of your videos!

    I started my 4 year old Standard Goldendoodle on large breed puppy NutriSource when I got him and eventually transitioned him to NutriSource Adult Chicken and Rice. Occasionally I have switched up with the Lamb Meal and Rice to give him a change, but he likes the Chicken and Rice the best. He’s happy, healthy and very athletic. I find 2 cups a day is all he needs to maintain perfect weight and his stools are very healthy and regular. He has a beautiful coat and just does great on NutriSource. Yes, it’s pretty expensive at my local Ace which has a pet department that mostly stocks NutriSource and Diamond foods, but he’s worth it. I know I could save a little by buying a mainstream brand, but this is just better food. I highly recommend it.

    Great video and love how it’s done!!! Hey do you recommend any of the victor products for a pitbull? Not sure what his dietary needs are so we’ve been feeding him diamond naturals beef and rice, all life stages and extreme athlete chicken. He’s medium energy

    • @TheTattooedDogTrainer
      @TheTattooedDogTrainer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Victor is a great entry-level food, but there are definitely other brands with higher quality foods. Victor often uses a lot of un-named blood meal in their foods which I am not a huge fan of. I once had a Victor rep explain to me that it is a source of protein and minerals and "raw food contains blood", but I don't think it is necessary.
      Pitbulls are more prone to skin issues, in part because of their pin-hair that is constantly shedding and regrowing. For this reason I always encourage feeding high-quality foods with really good ingredient sourcing to prevent irritations that can from inferior ingredients.

    Ok im kinda late to this but I think it's great that theyre doing 3rd party testing as part of their release criteria. I work in the food safety industry (human food) and this is pretty much a standard, if not a requirement before putting food out on the shelves. When I hear about pet food recalls and people are saying how it's a "good" thing because recalls = testing. NO. That's not the right mentality to have because recalls happen when illnesses are reported, or FDA has concerns over these foods/brands. Think about it, if they do a 3rd party testing as part of their release criteria, these issues will be detected BEFORE the products go out to businesses/consumers. So thank you, Tattooed Dog Trainer for bringing light to this topic, and I hope you'll continue to share more info like this for other brands as well, if you have that information.

    • @TheTattooedDogTrainer
      @TheTattooedDogTrainer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! I respect Nutrisource as a company do much because not only do they 3rd party test, but they hold the product until they get the results back! (Which should totally be the standard)
      There are a lot of pet food companies that do 3rd party test, but it costs them too much money to hold the product until they get their test results back. This means that contaminated pet foods may be sitting on store shelves and sold before anyone even knows it is contaminated.

      I’d love to see a video about yeast and allergies! Also would like to know if yeast in food (brewers yeast etc found in a number of dog foods contributes to the yeast in my dog)

    Hello. I just found this video and have a question regarding Pure Vita. I noticed there is garlic in the food and it's a controversial ingredgood? I just want to make sure I'm doing the best for my dog. My options are limited due to his inflammatory bowel. What do you think about this in the food?

    I need help choosing a food for my 12 weeks old Frenchie named Nala. She's eating Royal Canine Puppy French Bulldog. It really doesn't agree with her. On and off diarrhea & constant gas and bloating. Is Nutrisource still a good option being as this video is a year old? Looking forward to any advice you can give.

    I have no idea if you’ll see this or if you’ve already made a video, but im VERY interested in your opinions on peas and sweet potatoes. Im looking into getting a service dog and was planning on going through a breeder to get a golden retriever. One of the breeders I looked at heavily cautioned against peas and sweet potatoes because they said it blocks turmeric being digested. I had never heard that before and was worried I had been harming my former dog by giving her things like peas. Now im just kinda confused… 😅

      Turmeric or taurine? This is definitely an interesting one....
