    I have a V100 Icon in vintage sunburst that I bought new back in 2008. It's still my go-to guitar. They didn't artificially age them very well back then, they got better at it after a few years. I replaced the Kluson style Wilkinson tuners with Gibson Modern Tuners (made for Gibson by Grover) and I replaced the plastic string nut with a brass nut because that was a popular mod back in the '70s.

    Nice video, Dunsy - the good thing for us fans is there’s no known cure for your guitar buying addiction!
    That’s a massive difference in pickup output but the middle setting was great imho and they sounded balanced 👍

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100% correct there! As soon as it’s unboxed, cleaned up, new strings and a video made, I’m straight back onto the internet to find another one. It’s like a sugar rush, but more Rock and Roll 😂. Yeah, I did a bit of reading and it turns out that they describe it as a more contemporary output bridge humbucker. Definitely something I prefer. Really impressed with these guitars. For less than £200, used, it’s gigable and I can see why the fella from the Quireboys uses them live if he doesn’t fancy taking out an expensive “real” one. Gonna make a video shooting out this, an EGF850 and a 2019 50’s Standard.

    Vintage make excellent guitars. I have owned 4 or 5 over the years and I currently have a V100PGM---a non-relic'd version of the Peter Green model which does the out of phase sound to perfection. It's 2011 model which I bought second hand from a store for £199 in mint condition. New prices have recently increased but if you can get a good used one I agree it's unbelievable value.

I like epiphones but their starting to move into what used to be low end Gibson prices which I'm reluctant to pay. Cheapskate you see😊

    Nice guitar mate, sounds amazing with your playing. I've just traded me 56 epi for a VS63 (SG custom triple pickup) it was the best of half a dozen various branded guitars i tried in my local shop.
    Mine has the hot bridge pickup I'm really toying with the idea of putting some pro buckers in it but not quite yet as it sounds very good as is. It needs a bit of filler on the inlays though.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was quite surprised that the bridge pickup was quite a bit hotter - kinda suits how I play live though, so I just left it. These are nice guitars.

  • @johnnyfilippone

    Hey Dunsy, great review! I've got the exact same guitar, my serial number is only a few off from yours. Very solid guitar.
    The thing with the pickups - I think yours might not be original. My pickups are branded Wilkinson on the cover in the bottom right corners of both. And they're aged as well. Yours look too shiny in comparison! The back of the pickups are different too. That might explain the different outputs, although I haven't got the means to measure mine.
    Just thought I'd pass on this info. I might be completely wrong.
    Thanks again for the review

  • @ianchappell2907
    @ianchappell2907 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good to see one of the older V100's before Vintage had to change the body shape and add a carved heel to circumvent copyright! Vintage produce good stuff and of course Wilkinson hardware is decent too. Agree re pickup resistance/balance. Interestingly the Gibson set of the 498T and 490R come in at identical measurements. I reckon there is good theory that the bridge also needs to be stronger because the strings don't move as much in the magnetic field above the bridge pickup as they do further along above the neck pickup. The greater the string movement, the less strength you need in the pickup. Btw Dunsy, get hold of a PRS SE Bernie Marsden, I reckon you'd enjoy it.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I watched one of Dave Simpson’s videos where he was saying that the new ones aren’t anywhere near as good as the, dare I say it, Vintage ones. I have to be honest and say that the 3 that have come my way have all been older used models, so I can’t say either way. The pickup balance on this really suits what I do - usually I put something like a Tonerider Rocksong in the bridge, so this saved me doing that. Andertons had a PRS Bernie used recently and I was 99.9% of the way to hitting “Buy Now”, but then something I had been looking for for ages came up in Japan.

    • @george-wg6ug
      @george-wg6ug ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can vouch for the Bernie, great build quality and playability, again the bridge is a fair bit stronger than the neck, bridge on mine is around 10.5, neck around 8.5, nice balance of tones, mine was the second run with the satin neck and slightly smaller headstock 👍

  • @aliengrey6052
    @aliengrey6052 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Right……… I’ve had a few of these and they are good. Not great.
    Thing is the pickups are not that great. Ok for people with cheap amps as Gibson pups ect would be wasted on them.
    The build is good and they are not heavy either and you can get the action low so in terms of playability they are great.
    I’ve got a set of Warman pups to try and improve it. I’ll get them in soon and see what result I get.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, definitely gonna find out what it’s like at rehearsal volume and see how the pickups fare. I actually have Wilkinson pickups in the middle and neck positions of my 79 Greco Strat. Sound pretty good. I have a couple of humbuckers around here - Bare Knuckle The Mule and a Tonerider Generator, so quite a difference in output - will do an A/B comparison with those and the stock ones. Also plan on a video comparing the stock Wilkinson ones with stock PU2’s in a Greco and the Burstbuckers in my 2019 Les Paul Standard.
