In this video I will show you how to adjust your sagging shower door by unscrewing clamp hinges. NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RIGHT SIZED PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER/DRILL BIT. MY SCREWS ARE LARGER AND REQUIRE A #3 PHILLIPS HEAD (THEY COME IN #1,#2,#3 SIZED BITS). IF I USED ANYTHING SMALLER I WOULD RISK STRIPPING SCREWS. ONCE YOU ADJUST YOUR DOOR, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO ADJUST IT AGAIN. If your shower door is starting to lean or is sagging this is an easy fix. The screws that are loosened and tightened are adjusting the clamp force on the glass. So when you loosen screws it allows you to slide glass further into or away from clamp hinge. Definitely have something to shim the door, you don't want the glass to come in contact with tile floor, tile curbing, or hinge/tile on the wall. Cracking glass is an issue when adjusting door. Make sure you don't use too much force when rotating glass towards wall to even gaps. Please ask any questions in the comments section!
Thanks! Called a shower door company, and they wanted a $150 trip charge. Watched your video, bought shims for $2.99, and saved $147!
YESSSSS! LETS GO!💰
I just got a quote for $300 for someone just to do a service job! We will give this a try!
*service call
These trades are throwing out crazy numbers!! Good luck. Most of them are Phillips heads… Just make sure you have the right size that will help when you’re trying to tighten. I ended up using an impact driver on mine, which really helped. Haven’t had to adjust it in well over a year.
I used chopsticks for shims and saved $3 😂 was easy fix
Im proud of myself I’m 16 and watched a 30 second video of how to fix this thanks man!
Ur starting on diy way earlier than i did…well done!
Love that you didn't feel the need to make a 30 min video, with a minute and 30 seconds of actual information. Thank you for that
Literally looked up #1 glass door adjust youtube video that was 7 minutes…cut it in half🤣
Great video! Straight to the point and no unnecessary filler content.
Took me a while to figure out the no bs approach was the preferred format😬
Thank you for your clear and concise fix. I had the same hinges as your shower so it was incredibly easy to follow along. I would recommend using shims to adjust the shower door since it is very heavy and can be easily damaged if dropped onto the tile. In my case I used 2 paint stirs on the hinge side and 3 on the handle side. They helped adjust the door perfectly. The repair took less than 5 minutes.
Thx for the input…glad it helped!
Having this style of hinge, your tip worked for me. Thanks. I took apart wooden clothespins to make shims, saved a trip to the hardware store. I can’t believe how many years I put up with a misaligned door!!! Make SURE to use the proper size Phillips, mine was a 3 or a 4, not a 1 or 2.
Great advice on the right sized Phillips head! Makes a huge difference.
Great video and very helpful. I fixed mine in less than a minute.😂 Thank you !!
Just watched this video and fixed my glass shower door. It has the exact same hinges, and this technique for fixing the sag worked perfectly and was super easy. Thanks!
I found i eventually needed a #3 phillips head (thicker) and my impact drill. Hand tightening works but you may need to adjust again in a few months
Just this week the shower door started rubbing the glass on a single door application. I removed the drip shield at the bottom and got inside the shower. I put the wedges in on top of each other from opposite sides. I loosened the two Phillips screws and gave some taps on the inside wedge, and nothing moved. Light bulb in my head went off and thought that piece of 3/8” glass is heavy. Tapped more on the wedge and it kept moving. Looked up and there was a 3/16” gap similar to the bottom. Tighten all the screws and it fixed. I’m pretty mechanical, but working around glass has a pucker factor.
I hear you…the quick DIY can be “free” or get expensive real quick. To put your mind at ease I actually used an impact drill on my screws eventually. Loud/glass rattled… But it was all good.
Thanks for the video.
For anybody wondering, you don’t technically need the “shims” as long as you are comfortable holding the door while loosening it.
If not, get someone’s help in holding it in the meanwhile.
I did it by myself with just a screwdriver. Grabbed door handle and used foot for support.
Thanks for input!!
Perfect video. Trying to coach my wife and son from another state on how to fix this and it was a hand-to-forehead situation. I just sent them this video as it explain in perfect detail what I was trying to explain over FaceTime.
Sorry for late reply...AWESOME...glad it worked!
Thank you! Your video was very helpful to me. I was able to adjust the shower door on one of our tenants showers and not have to call a glass person to come and do it. Keep up the good work
Glad it helped...avoiding the $100 dollar visit for 10 minute fix is huge!
I would tape shims on the wall also, if the glass hits too hard you’ll be sweeping it up.
Thank you for the video. It was well done. I do have a tip to add I learned over 30 years ago. If the screws are very difficult to get loose I recommend purchasing a tube valve grinding compound at your local automotive store for more gripping strength, then dapping it in screw and then using a long handle 3/8 ratchet and apex tip for extra torque. Tapping on the screw for several minutes with a hammer and screwdriver or apex tip to break the seize maybe required as in my case.
Wow great tip!!
You're an angel! Trying to install my glass door by myself in my new shower and been stuck at this stage for 2 months! Losing my mind!! I hope this works!!
Let me know how it goes…glad it helped!
Thanks for this. Worked a treat. We actually used two luggage straps to hold/lift the door to line it back again - perfect!
Love the “hack”!! Well done glad it helped!!
Was about to call a company to do this. Thanks for saving me the money! Quick and easy fix 👌🏼
Glad it helped!!!
Saved me a $200 service call in favor of $5 shims and 10 minutes of my time, many thanks!
Awesome…i used to have to adjust mine quite often until i got the right phillips head (#3). Havent touched it in over a year
Thank you for video. The installer came out 3X an kept trying to tighten screws in wall. Followed your video. Fixed in minutes.
Glad youtube made you smarter than the “expert” 👍🏼
Hi!! Im a childhood friend of Ramona. We grew up on Chester. Can't wait to watch all your videos.
Thanks Joy! Appreciate you checking it out
How2Q, you are the man. Was quoted $170 plus tax, fixed in 5 min! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this video. We followed your instructions and had it adjusted within 10 minutes.
Sweet glad it helped!!
Thank you! You have no idea how much this video saved me so much stress. Just knowing that this is a common issue and easy fix.
Awesome…love the cheap and easy fixes!
I’m back! It worked! Here the screw was loose on the bottom bracket so it was opposite.. so go in with a open mind!
You are a hero. I couldn’t figure out how to make my glass doors from banging. Your video absolutely helped me. I just put two Home Depot paint stirrers (free) on where my contact was happening after loosening the screws. Then I tightened the screws and now it’s perfectly aligned, better than when the contractors installed the frameless doors!
Love the cheap easy fixes!!
Mine has been bugging me for a few months. Awesome, simple video. Thanks Dad!
Haha your welcome
Glad it helped
Hiding in plane sight--great fix! One suggestion: let the bottom shims due the lifting vs the glass door handle. Slide the bottom shims while the screws are loose until the glass door is level and then tighten the screws. Done!
Great idea thx!
Perfect thanks! This was helpful. Was a bit nervous with the glass but it went ok.
My 'shims' were a pair of gloves and thick socks, but they did the job 😄
Didn't get it perfect but the place is a rental, so it'll do. The upper gasket is falling apart so I guess I'll tell my landlord who won't care.
Haha like the shims you came up with
Very informative and couldn’t believe how quick and easy! Much appreciated and all the best! Thank you very much ✌️
So glad it helped...no more annoying glass on glass!
I knew there had to be a way to do this but you made this job soooooooooooooooo much easier🥰🤗thank you for this video❤️
So glad it helped!!
That is exactly the problem I am having and so happy to find this video! Thanks!!
Glad it helped!!
You are THEE man!! Just saved me a butt-load of my hard earned money. Thanks again!
Glad it helped!!
Subscribing right now. Good content. 👌
Man this video helped me out a lot so thanks for posting it. Cheer's!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks. Your video is straight forward and professional.
Glad it helped!!
Using an impact driver with a #3 screw tip works well. Once hand-tight, full throttle on the impact gun for 2 to 3 one-second intervals outghta do it. You'll break the metal hinge or screws long before it breaks the glass.
Thanks! Awesome input
Just what I needed to see! Fixed my door in 5 minutes
So glad it helped!!
Looking for this exact thing!!! 1st video I chose. THANKS
Glad it helped!!
Thank you for posting this! Thought I would have to hire someone to fix it. This looks easy!
Make sure if you need a phillips head screw you get the right size. I needed a #3 phillips head (little more heavy duty) for this one. Glad it helped!!
Thanks for this video. My problem is the door catches at the bottom
How much should the screws be retightened?
Excellent video.
Thanks! Hope it helped!
You left out that you also need to insert small hard plastic shim pieces inside the hinges to prevent this type of slippage in the first place. This door will slip again in a few months. I also replace the dried-out rubber gasket with double-sided Monster tape.
Hi, I am having to adjust weekly. Can you explain the small plastic wedges in the hinges. How, where? Thanks
I havent had to adjust mine since i was able to find the right size phillips head (#3) and put enough torque on screw. No more issues
This is very true. My new install is sagging after just a few weeks and the unqualified idiot who installed it didn't know to use the shims. He left them and said "these are for a different type of door". At least I have them so I can fix it myself. It's just a little daunting to work with such a heavy slab of glass. Knowing what I know now, I'd never get frameless doors again.
Man thats frustrating…the trades aren’t what they once were. I had a remodel where the plumber was clueless! Definitely get some help but once its done hopefully you can enjoy it
I wouldn't recommend using the handle to pull up on the glass. Get a suction cup or grab the top of the glass to shift over. Someone is going to see this video video, pull up on the handle and pop their door lol. I own a glass company and I've seen it happen👌💯
Great input…appreciate it!!
Thanks you probably just saved me a bunch of money
Glad it helped!
Quick - clean - concise = perfect
Glad it helped!
Our hinge has a gap and we can see the screws and springs. Any suggestions? Can’t see a place to screw the hinge back to the wall/tile as it’s not on the outside part.
Do you have a video on what I can do to the other panel ? Mine seems a bit loose when touched and the quotes just to come out is $250
Hey i have these type of hinges and it keeps sagging. It also has some hex screws in the back of the hinge . What are those for
The hinge was loose from the plate screwed to the wall. I had to remove the door to tighten. There appears to be adjustment screws on the wall side of the hinge but they are too tight. Anyway, thanks for the video!❤
Well done…some more work than expected but still a cheap fix!
Another youtuber demonstrated an acrylic rod can be used as a permanent shim so the door will always be in contact with the hinge. He linked 100 rods for 16 dollars off amazon.
ty worked like a charm :)
Glad it helped!!
thanks for the video, worked perfectly
Glad it helped!!
Hello and thank you for sharing this video. I have a sagging door, like that shown here. The hinges on my installation have set screws on the inside edge of the clamp that holds the glass door. Are these adjusting screws to maintain that gap you mention at 01:24 of the video?
Thanks, seems I was on the right lines, managed to adjust must not have tightened it back up enough as it’s sagged back down
Seems this is a slippery slope. Mine holds for about 2 months and then needs to be adjusted again. Having the right drill bit (#2 or #3 phillips head usually)
I just adjusted mine, l guess l can go a smidge more thanks for the close up. What do you recommend for lubrication
Thank you for this video. My problem is not side to side, as you have shown how to fix here, rather front to back. That is when the bottom of the door is flush with the shower side glass the top stick out. How do you make that adjustment?
Probably means your door was not installed plumb.
Hi, this adjustment procedure works great. But after a few weeks I have to adjust it again. I just had new shower door hinges installed, and three weeks later, the door is out of alignment and the bottom of the door drags against the tile. What am I doing wrong? Why won't it stay adjusted? Any help is much appreciated.
My screws are phillips head #3. I only specify that because I wasn't getting a good "bite" when adjusting. So make sure you using correct bit for your screw (could be allen wrench, torx, or phiilips). The other issue is probably that you are not tightening them enough. I use impact driver (drill driver is probably ok just make sure you don't strip) on mine...need to put quite a bit of torque on screw to get it to stay. Make a long story short you aren't tightening them enough. Had that issue early on with my door (about every two months had to adjust again). Haven't adjusted it in over a year since i used the steps above to adjust it.
clear, helpful, no extra BS. Thanks :-)
Honestly, there are a lot of videos out there about this when I did it. Thought cutting out the BS might be helpful! Lol
Great video, thanks! Unfortunately my door does not slide at the top hinge. It seems very stuck. Any tips?
Hmmm…rubber gasket between hinge & glass? May have to remove door entirely…assuming it has stuck to glass/hinge
Oh darn. Well, thank you for the reply! @@how2q
Great video, will give this a try this week - fingers crossed.
Rest of story…after having to adjust this every 3 months or so i finally got the correct size phillips head #3 and tightened it…been 2 years now no adjustments. Good luck
I am so happy to see this video I have the same hinges on my swinging glass door but the gasket has gone (melted) and glass shower door does not swing any more and does not close all the way. I am senior citizen and called few places they are asking over 450$ to fix it. May I know where I can get the 2”by 3” gaskets? They are not available in any stores like Home Depot or Canadian tire I am in Ottawa ontario please guide me. Thank you
I recommend you go on Amazon and search exactly what you asked…2” 3” shower door gasket
Hope that helps….$450!!!😡
Thanks a lot.. explained so well
Glad it helped
Spent $100 last time to have it fixed and now it’s slanting again. Thanks for saving me $100 and $$$ for more. Btw is there a way to diy those wedges???
Man they are so cheap but sure…you could make them yourself w circular saw.
the simple fact that you can loosen those screws with an hand driver is why it sags, get and impact and go to town on that thing like it owes you money.
Yup that is what i eventually did. Havent had to adjust it since. Thx!
Thank you! You just saved my back!
@beigehur1 glad it helped!!
Thanks. It was a quick fix!
Glad it helped!!
You didn’t specify how much to tighten the hinge. Will it break if I overtighten?
I have a shower similar to that one. It seems like they didn’t push the glass back or closer to the wall. When water is splashed, it leaks at the bottom and outside it the glass. And this is the side glass not the door glass. I am also not able to close the door properly. What could fox this?
You might comment on how tight to crank the screws.
Good pt…for mine won’t tighten unless have right phillips head
Great explanation!
Thanks pretty simple… To avoid adjustment every couple months… At least for mine… Needed the right size Phillips head driver
good and simple - explanation 👍👍 !
Thx hope it helps
I just noticed my door has shifted near the top, as well. Thanks for the heads up.
Great hope this helped!
Thank man mine’s a bit different & older I’m see if I can do this too mine
Hope it helped!
Can I adjust both the door and panel up about an eight of an inch in the same way using shims ??? Thanks for your help.
Yes you should be able too…2 man job preferred.👍🏼
@@how2q Great thanks
Thanks for the upload. Also, has anyone ever mentioned that you have a resemblance to the late R Lee Ermey?
Actually that would be a first!lol hope it helps!
Great video!
Hope it helped
@@how2qWell. I loosened the screws, but the glass would not move. 😕
@@how2qWhat are the smaller hex screws for? Could cranking on those adjust the glass?
@Texhubby1 how old is the door/hinge?
@@how2q It was installed mid 2021.
Dude, thanks for the tips. Good to know you learned something in Aggieland!
Haha life lessons! Hope you guys are doing well!
My Hinge has 2 large philips screws and 2 smaller screws. What are the small screws for ?
Hey -- hoping you can answer a question. I see an irregular edge of the black rubber gasket around the upper hinge, but I don't see it around the lower hinge. Does this mean it needs replacement? If so, where would I find one of those... Thank you!
Search shower gasket hinge on amazon. Many options will pop up. I would try and replace the bottom hinge gasket
What do the allen set screws do on the interior side of the hinge?
I'd it possible to grind the cutout of the glass to make the cutout larger? My glass door hasn't sagged. But won't close as it hits the edge of the pony wall
Wondering if you can loosen hinges and adjust door towards hinge without flat side hitting wall (wall opposite of pony). Maybe glass is too far out from hinge?
Hi I was able to use this trick on my first door and it fixed it. However, I’ve done the same trick on my second door and it’s not fixing it.
I’ve tried loosing the top and push it in because my top part is not closing flush with the other side. Any tips?
Thanks for the tip. Our rubber gaskets are too old and now brittle. How to source new ones if you don't know the manufacturer? Or do we have to purchase new hinges? :/
Measure distance between screw holes…try and source same “looking” hinges through sites like build. Match holes distance when ordering. Tough to help through youtube!
We will try this and let you know!
THANK YOU. I was afraid I was going to have to remove the shower door...heavy bastard!
Yes it is. I ended up using an impact drill to get a little tighter fit. Havent had to adjust since
How to replace the black rubber gasket is coming out? Mine are doors like yours
Just a dad diy guy…havent had to replace the gaskets (yet)
I did this but my shower door keeps sagging…should ii get a new gasket?
thank you for sharing this info
Hope it helped!
Works great!
Glad it helped
How do you tighten the part that the hinge pivot on mine looks like it’s coming off the wall
If your hinge is starting to come out of the wall you may have a bigger issue. Somehow that connection has been compromised. You could tighten but it will probably loosen again. May need longer screw or slightly larger one if possible
You make it look easy Quinn 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
haha the camera can be deceiving!lol
I have this problem almost every 6 months. Is that normal? Same design hinge - just with hex wrench screws. I use the shower once a day...
So i used to have to adjust about the same amount of time. I ended up using a #3 phillips head (correct size) and an impact driver. Don't go too crazy but I haven't touched it in almost two years.
What if it keeps moving and you have to tighten from the hinge..I align it and it sags every few days..
Thanks
Not all phillips head bits/screwdrivers are the same. Make sure u have what i’m assuming is a #3 phillips head screwdriver. Also, you may not be tightening enough.
Thanks man, Good I need to fix mine, also I will subscribe
Awesome thank you!!
Any recommendation to libricate the hinges when they start making noise? Can I use any lubrican for normal hinges?
Try wd-40 wet
Lube….has worked for me in past

Unclear about adjusting the glass door after loosening the screws. This being an important part so need to slow down the video with visual clear instructions. Also what if the screws are on the top of the door? Have not been able to fix the dropped door using this video 😢
Does not deal with the issue which is that the spacers inside are not doing their job. Do this and you’ll be at it every couple of months until the screws get torn up. Add material to the shims.
Thx todd. Must have a lot to do with the quality of the hinge. I need to tighten mine every five or six months. Not too bad compared to what I’ve seen some other people have to do. Appreciate your input
Do you have any advice on how to do that? Do I take the hinge cover off completely?
whats the use of the shims? and is there an alternative? like cardboard?
Oh definitely use anything that will allow you to limit glass on glass contact and also prop up glass
what could it be if gap closes back up after pulling shims out.
Hinge not tight enough.probably slipping. Sometimes rubber inside hinge dries/wears out
@how2q thank you sir, I'll look into that next.
Very helpful!
Glad it helped!!
@@how2q May I ask you a question? The house is new, built in May 2022. Once we fix the shower door, as you detailed, will this problem reoccur as time goes on? And if it does, is there something we can do now to prevent this happening again? BTW, the hinges are exactly like the ones on our shower. Thanks
@@jimh4188 well stating the obvious here, but whoever installed that did a pretty bad job. The rest of the story on this door is I would have to adjust it about every 2 to 3 months until I used the right Phillips head and an impact driver drill. make sure you have the right Phillips head for the job. Not every Phillips head is created equal. Use a number three which will give you a better grip. I actually used an impact drill on this one. I think it’s almost been 18 months once I used the impact and correct Phillips head. I hope that helps. if you don’t have an impact drill, driver, just try to hand tighten and see how long it lasts. If you’re having to adjust it every 2 to 3 months then definitely get an impact driver
@@how2q Or maybe contact the contractor and ask him/her to repair it correctly?
Yes…that would be option 1!!
I ordered my shower door and it appears to be about 2 inches too short. Well we can adjust the glass about an inch. But, we need a possible hack to connect the top bar to the wall of the glass sliding door. any thoughts? Trying to fit s 60 inche wide glass sliding door into a 62ish inch shower opening. It took forever for this door to ship do to back orders.
Sorry it came up short…i am a dad diy guy and not an installer. Possibly reach out to a tuber that does this for a living. Sorry i don’t have a better answer
Hi. The screws on my shower door are smooth, as in they don't have a place to use the screwdriver to create the movement. How do I lose those?
There may be some small covers over the screws…i see that sometimes
@@how2q thanks so much 🙏 how would I remove the covers
@@angelaterri if you have a small screw drive or puddy knife (something thin to get between screw and cover
Great video, thank you. Now how do you keep this from happening again and again, seems like I have to do this about every other month?
When you find out let me know!lol. Thread lock may be an option.
Same!! So frustrating. Our manufacturer is sending us new hinges but I don’t think it’s going to work. It’s been happening since we bought the door. I have to do it after every shower. Its ridiculous
