    Good episode Cole. I have a 1098 engine ready to go back together, this is giving me the motivation to get back into it!

    Cole, Top video & great tips. FYI the round plate on the crankshaft is a oil thrower or splash plate to keep the oil from building up on
    the front timming cover seal and move the oil around in the cover. Cheers Dave

    Great stuff again! One thing that other miniacs were saying and highlighting for me is to use the “Payen’s copper head gasket” rather than the standard one. Cool stuff that you added the torque settings on screen and the image for the stud pattern! From time to time when I’m watching your vids it’s like a mech teacher keeping a lesson for the students. 👍👍👍👌🤘🤘🤘

    Its a good idea to prime your oil pump with either vasolene or at least oil

    Great video. Quick question - you talk about using permetex on your gaskets - what is the full name of the product?

    Hi cole.when you turn the later motor upside down,won't the lifters fall out(to the top)

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once the rocker assembly and pushrods are in place they will hold the lifters in place if the engine is upside down. However, if you don't have the camshaft in they can fall down into the engine and sump.

    Hi Cole, just noticed that you're missing the 2A259 rocker post locking plate from number 1 rocker post. It will mean the plug that stops the rocker shaft from moving might loosen and fall out.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have a link to the part somewhere? Thanks for mentioning this. To me.

      @@classicminidiy if you go to 21:33 on the video you can see on the #1 rocker post there is a grub screw with a flat head. The locking plate covers it and stops it from spinning.
      There are 2 different styles, the early type goes across both studs on the rocker post and looks similar to the rocker post shims:
      www.7ent.com/products/rocker-pedestal-shim-030-c-2a515.html
      The other only goes on the main stud end:
      www.7ent.com/products/shim-lockplate-rocker-pedestal-2a0515-used.html
      I found a couple spare of the old style ones yesterday, I can send you can't find any locally

    #ClassicMiniDIY what do you think about using a duplex chain in a 998 engine? Does it make sense? I know about possible cover fitting issues and these 2 screws :). Or maybe duplex is too much and a good Simplex will do the trick? (Mini 1991 998cc Automatic)

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Zaki, I personally don't think a duplex chain is needed for a 998. (arguably its not even needed for a 1275). If I were in your shoes I would get a nice simplex gear from swiftune or minispares and you would be in great shape. The key part is the quality of the chain, so at a minimum get a nice IWIS chain.

    • @zaki79
      @zaki79 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@classicminidiy Thank you very much for your help. I'll go for IWIS which in MiniSpares is EVO from what I know. Simplex wheels there aren't that great but I guess these should do it. btw. Your engine restoration series are simply pure gold! I love people sharing their knowledge with others via YT. Keep up the great work!
