    I can't believe I'm saying this but this level of musicianship has not been seen in Bluegrass since the star studded lineup of New Grass Revival.......Sam Bush......Bela Fleck......John Cowan......and Pat Flynn.

    He calls himself Billy Strings because that was the name his aunt gave him when he was a little kid dragging around his first guitar. His family then picked up on it and it stuck.

    Billy said his Hippie Aunt have him the nickname, Billy said he was learning to play and his aunt would walk by a say look at little Billy Strings playing. Maybe not verbatim but very close to what Billy said in an interview I saw.

    He said he mainly had the breaking string problem when he used Elixr strings. When he switched to D'addario the problem went away. I had the same experience.

    Just popping back in to say that Billy Strings will be playing the Grammy's this Saturday April 3rd and is also up for 2 Grammy's, Best album "Renewal" and Performance for "Love and Regret". Thought you might like to know.

    It's Royal Masat on bass and Drew Matulich on mandolin has since been replaced by Jerrod Walker.

      I find Molly and Sierra boring. I wanted to like them...but they just don't do it for me. No spark. They're both well trained...no magic.

    His aunt called him Billy Strings when she saw him pick up a banjo after guitar. She passed and he used it for a contest. Liked it kept it.

    i actually prefer this particular live version over the studio recording absent all the reverb on the vocals. Wish Billy would have a permanent fiddle player live like he does on his recordings.

    So I had to comment because of that wooden stand behind you, with the books piled up on top...we had that exact thing in my house growing up! Late 70's era...it has a hole in the top, and a big orange ashtray fit into it! :D I think it may still be in a shed at my mom's house, but I believe the ashtray is lost.
