    I came here today for the packing/shipping bit, and really appreciate you telling us it’s at the 6 min mark 🥰. Also you are the best “explainer of things” I have seen! You speak clearly, slowly and show every step, AND you explain the “why”. Plus you throw in some humor 😊Thank you so much and you now have a new subscriber! ❤️

    I like to pick up free drink coozies at church sales and use those for glasses. They add extra protection on the bottom and who doesn’t have a kitchen drawer full of them! Then finish as you did.

    I’ve sold and shipped a bit of glassware, crystal, and dishes. For glasses such as yours I do similar. I tend to make half cut slits in my dividing cardboard and put those together for ease before the glasses get placed in the first box. For crystal stemware, some very delicate and usually at a much higher cost, anything less than a separate container for each I have had failures. There may be some extra final box size and weights but more often than not I will be sorry if I try to save that extra cost on shipping. Some items that have worked for me with minimal cost are hard paper pressboard gift tubes, with or without lids/bases, the size for wine bottles that I have often found for deep clearance after holidays such as New Years or Christmas, family size “soup cans” of a similar size (I think around 50 oz size if you know anyone in commercial food service that uses and can retrieve), pvc plumbers pipe, any shipping tube of good strength and size, or just individual sized boxes of correct strength. I also try to do that with higher priced dishes. As an example, plates I will ship in new pizza boxes with plain sides on the exterior and then place those into another box. I try to keep 8”,10”,12” boxes on hand. Most plates can fit 2 per box with foam sheets and/or bubble wrap. I tend to get nice reviews for the shipping and also many customers tend to only bring out those higher priced items for special occasions and they like the option to personally store the items in those boxes and I shoot for higher sales prices so worth it to me

    Great video and thank you for advocating for double boxing! Since I am both a seller and a collector myself focused on vintage kitchenware and collectibles, I ship and receive a lot of fragile items. Not only is it good customer service for those items to arrive in good condition, but once that vintage piece is broken, that’s one less piece of awesomeness out in the world. I hate when an irreplaceable item is lost to poor packaging. Bowl sets are the worst for knocking together in transit and breaking! I’ll share my tip for double boxing: I put a length of large-bubble bubble wrap in the empty box, making it long enough to match the flaps. Then I put another length of bubble wrap in the box at 90 degrees, so it’s kind of like a big x of bubble wrap in the box. Then I set the box containing the item(s) inside so there is two layers on the bottom and one layer on all four sides. Then I fold the “flaps” of bubble wrap over the top making two layers on the top. I add extra packing material to the sides and corners if needed. I hope my explanation made sense! :)

    Double boxing is so important. A few years ago my postman told me that a disgruntled worker in the warehouse will purposely try to break packages marked fragile so i stopped. Recently i use cheap professional looking fragile stickers so maybe it will help in any insurance claims and so far so good but i also pack as if someone will be rough.

    • @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter
      @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put handle with care on it. It’s more for the customers peace of mind than anything. The reality is, and I did a video on this a while ago, is that writing fragile on the box is not going to change anything about how it is handled when it’s transported except possibly by the carrier who picks it up and drops it off at the doorstep. In order for the package to be handled in a different way during the actual transfer, then you need to purchase a fragile sticker from the post office which will cost you about $10 and then they will put it in a special section for fragile items.

    helpful video. just curious. you put a layer of cardboard on the top of the glasses in the first box, but wouldn't the bottom be just as vulnerable and need one too? or is it because the glasses are stronger on the bottom?

      About $15 via priority shipping as the buyer was two states over. When the person lives further away, use ground shipping via USPS, FedEx, or UPS for a cheaper rate compared to priority for bigger and/or heavier boxes.

    I'd rather sell the ads out of older newspapers then stuff them in a box. Bubble wrap really is affordable for what it is, and if you're not shy you can build relationships with companies who will just give you it. Same as nice boxes.

      @alexbutler6434 that’s exactly why we use modern newspaper with ads that have no value. We get lots of free local void fill material and lots of free boxes.

    As a professional mover for over 12 years, I can say that this is the amateur way of packing, which is sufficient enough, but not as good as a professional pack.. we would use packing paper. And only packing paper. I could throw one of my boxes down a flight of stairs and nothing would break. 😎

    • @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter
      @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use packing paper as well but calling this an amateur way to pack is just wrong. The type of horrible packing that results in broken glassware is what is actually amateurish.

      @@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter well, I meant from a professional standpoint.. no packing, professional, uses bubble wrap and dividers. Don’t get me wrong it does work specially for short distances.

    What was the shipping on that? My family's throwing me to the wolves by volunteering me to start selling our parents' stuff on-line and the price of shipping freaks me out.

      All newspaper inks? Problem is also that some people use older newspapers that are hanging around like the one I had in my hands which has ink that will transfer on it.
