  • Worth watching, even if just last 5 minutes or so. This place turned up an incredible find (to me anyways). At the very end, it's all cleaned up with details shown.

A friendly tip for anyone who likes to find & collect old glass jars, bottles, etc.... Find out where old outhouses were on old properties & dig. I found out that back in the day people would toss out a lot of glass in them. I found a lot of cool, old bottles & jars digging up an old crapper hole!!!

The piece you found at 10:50 looks like a drawer pull. We bought a 1880's farmhouse with property, when I was digging and leveling an 8x12 area to build a chicken coop w/ enclosed run, I found a lot of cool things! I found a tiny carved stone salt shaker, a bunch of huge old tractor parts, and an old baby food jar, lid in tact but very rusty. I wish I had a metal detector to find even more!

An old log house that was paneled over.... neat !.... I've seen many like this in the mountains of West Virginia-- old farmsteads dating back to the Civil War era. It looks as if the only heat came from those fireplaces- there aren't any radiators, and the the lack of a basement(?) where a more modern furnace would have been makes me think this was a cold place to live--- electric or kerosene space heaters later on, maybe?... but originally only wood burning fireplaces and a cookstove for heat..................

Your 1876 CC dime looks to be in extra fine condition. It's in an amazing condition for a metal detect find. The Red Book says it's retail values is around $100, maybe more if it's in better than EF condition.

That house is OLD. I've see many old houses that have two front doors but the presence of two staircases so close together makes me think this house was built as two separate residence, an early American duplex. My guess is that the doorway between the two upstairs rooms was cut through the wall sometime, maybe recently. I noticed that what seems to be the original house seems to have no hallways.----Congratulations, Rick, on your finds and especially that beautiful dime. I used to collect coins so I especially enjoyed that. It's a beauty. I didn't know the seated liberty design had been used into the 1870's.

awesome old farm house...im guessing mid 1800's...it could be referred to as a double-pen house because of the 2 front doors...it was probably originally built as just a 4 room house...2 down 2 up...one room downstairs was a formal room or parlor used to receive guests and the other downstairs room was the ''keeping room'' used for cooking and everyday life...the door between the downstairs room may or may not have always been there...the one side could have been used as a servant or slave quarters too possibly ...this style of house was very common and may have originated from German immigrants in Pennsylvania...it does appear to be a log built home..those logs upstairs where they cut that door in look kinda like cherry logs to me...i would love to have a house like that!..tear off the additions and gut the cabin part revealing the logs and restore it then build new additions on!..but im just dreaming! lol... Hey great find on the old silver!!..thats the only type of metal detecting i do...old places..love the old stuff!!

Lonny Smith your the only other person I've heard mention about slave quarters , most people assume no slaves lived in the main house. I've also heard about kitchens being semi detached , I presume because of heat but not sure.

    +Exploring with Rick & Bekah
That 1876 dime with the CC carson city mint mark is fascinating!
You would think that most dimes from that era circulating in TN would have been from mints closer than that...Perhaps a visitor from out west? Very interesting. Again it would be so interesting if you guys would look into the county court house propery deeds and find out the history of the home....if you get the chance I hope you do that and a video on it. Thanks for all your hard work.
