Hank Sr died from a drug overdose (pain killers) in the back seat of his Cadillac on his way to play in a new years concert. Hank Jr was big into drugs and alcohol and when he was trying to clean up a little and going through a lot he fell over 500ft down a mountain and almost died.
He fell off a mountain in 1973. That is the reference in this song. His face was crushed and required extensive reconstruction. He wears the beard and glasses to cover the scares from the accident. Johnny Cash and June Carter flew to his hospital and was there for him in his hour of need. Hank Jr has really connected to you. JMO - Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
Yes, Hank Jr was part of the outlaw movement. You nailed the Parallel between Country and Hip Hop. It is about lifestyles and middle finger to the man music. They are both music of the working man.
Oh and a Hank Williams Jr Fast fact: That man literally fell off a mountain once and broke almost every bone in his body. Gives you an idea of just how tough those old country folks are.
Why do you drink? To get drunk!! Why do you roll smoke? To get high! Why must you live out the songs that you wrote? To get laid!! Haha thats what we always yelled out at the bar when this song came on..lol
Yo HWJ fell down a mountain and splattered on a boulder. His Native ranch manager sensed something was wrong. He set out and found Hank - half his brain was exposed and an eyeball was popped out. He awoke to June Carter and Johnny Cash at the hospital. There is nothing short of legendary regarding this man. The beard, Shades and Hat covered up disfiguration from his injuries, and he went on to produce some of the most fun loving authentic music, and get more ass than a toilet seat. Legend
Hundreds of “RAP” Reactors have discovered Country and are now huge fans of the real life, true musicianship, and positivity. And now, listen as a majority.
Hank Sr. was a hard living, hard partying incredibly talented man. Look at the legacy he left and he died at age 29. Hank Jr. was basically put on the road at the age of 9 to perform his daddy’s songs. He struggled living in his father’s shadow. He drank, he did drugs, he partied and attempted to self delete. He fell off a mountain in the middle of nowhere and crushed his skull. His brain and one of his eyeballs were out of his head. It took 6 hours to rescue him and 5 surgeons working for over 7 hours to even start to repair the damage. When he woke up he didn’t even know if he would ever talk again much less perform. He was in recovery and therapy for two and a half years after that. But in his prescription pain pill “haze” he found his unique voice and wrote a lot of songs. He embraced his outlaw Country image and hasn’t looked back. He’s a legend in his own right and I’m sure his daddy would have been very proud that his son came out of his shadow and into his own. So if he gets drunk and sings all night long it really is a family tradition. Like father like son.

In the sixties and seventies, Hank Williams was still the biggest country star of all time. Like the Elvis of country. Hank Jr really was in a "unique position " as the song says. Imagine the impossible pressure to live up to the best ever. He couldn't, and that's what really drove him to the vices that nearly killed him. When he finally found his own path, he found his own voice and success. And his own legend alongside his dad.
@HalliCrihfield You would have thought his family would have learned from trotting hours dad around the country for money while he was a really sick alcoholic that needed help.
Fun fact. After his dad died, his mother started teaching him to sing exactly like his father. Using his father's vocal inflections and mannerisms. At age 8, his mother put him up on stage in front of his father's backing band.
When he was a young artist he covered a lot of his dad’s songs. He eventually wanted to go his own way, when he fell off Ajax mountain in Montana and almost died when he woke in the hospital Johnny and June Cash were at his bedside. Once he recovered he started doing his own thing and jumped headfirst into the outlaw country genre. He has a lot of great songs. The thing about it is he has lived most of his songs. It is definitely a rabbit hole for you to dive into my personal favorites are: OD’d in Denver, All in Alabama, Bluesman, whiskey bent and hell bound and the list goes on and on. He is definitely a country gangster.
As a teen it was all country, rock, classic rock, oldies and metal. Shipped out to the army at 18 which is a true mixing pot and it really opened my mind to everything, I am 44 now and recently retired from the army and when people come to our house asking “who’s damn playlist is this going from Iron Maiden to Marty Robbins to Tech9 and NF 😂 it’s mine bitch, whatever is relatable or gets me in the zone😂❤
Hank Williams Sr was among the most prolific and successful country songwriters in the 1950s. However, he was also a heavy drinker and smoker. So that is what Hank jr is referring to when he talks about a family tradition. You really should check out Hank Sr's music. It's good, and it inspired a generation of singers and writers.
This song was my dad's favorite. Him and his family would have this song at all family weddings. They replaced family with our last name. He loved it. God rest his soul.
He is NOT saying he is different than his dad. The line is "If I get stoned and sing all night long, it's a family tradition", because that is exactly what his daddy used to do.
@Chudchanning Glad you handled that I get blocked and warned enough...lol Hank III has been in quite a few bands and different genre. So to pick out only one band and make a statement to cover what type of artist and talent he had is just uneducated.
Loved watching you listen to this 😁 my daddy loved Hank Williams Sr. and he sang his songs to me and played his records all the time! He was from Alabama like us so that made him even more special. He died when he was young (around 30) from years of alcohol and drug abuse which led to heart failure. This is why Hank Jr. says he was carrying on the family tradition. BTW that was Charlie Daniels playing the fiddle on this song 🤗❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Love your facial expressions during these reactions! The call and response to this song is: "why do you drink" (to get drunk!), "why do you roll smoke" (to get stoned!) P.S. I've heard the only person to out smoke Snoop was another country legend, Willie Nelson!

Hank jr is a man that fell of the mountain and rises like The Phoenix ... His head gets crushed and it changed his facial features and he rockets to fame ..
I absolutely love your channel!!!! I love your enthusiasm and energy reacting to my all time favorite country artists! Thank you so much for your open mind to other genre's, keep them coming. And to all the people that want to be negative and all that crap, just tell them to leave you alone, your carrying on an ole family tradition!
Love the reaction! You can't go wrong when picking a Hank Jr. song to react to. I recommend "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" and "All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)".
I saw Hank live in 2007ish with Skynyrd, and nobody knew Kid Rock was there with him that night, so when Kid Rock came out and sang it with him everybody was super surprised and went crazy! It was awesome!
Hank Sr. sang "Hey Good Lookin', What Ya Got Cookin'?" Yes, Hank Jr. was Outlaw Country and he hung out with Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and many, many others. Glad to hear younger folks getting caught up with Country music. God Bless you and your family, sir!
Brother, I was born in Canon City Colorado but lived in Meeker Colorado until I was about 10. We had barn dances, snow mobile races and rodeo's! I would love to see you in all our Cowboy wear and go to perform at one of our celebrations! You would rock it!
First, I have so much respect for you for not letting your little girl be exposed to inappropriate lyrics, no matter the musical genre. Second, I love your reaction to this song. My dad was a big fan of Hank, Sr. (I had one of his songs played at Dad's Celebration of Life service) and I am, too. When Hank, Jr. became popular with his Outlaw Country, I didn't care for it, but life and some of the struggles that came with the years have made me appreciate his music. I do hope you will react to some Hank Williams, Sr. at some point. There is now a third and fourth generation singing.
To me, as a 51 yr old that is has appreciated all types of music, but Country/Rock raised, Hank is my generations outlaw legend! My all- time favorite, of any genre!
We play this at every family get together we have, right along with Metallica, Queen, Chubby Checker & The Fat Boys and now...Ren. (Plus many more in all genres). There isn't one person, from age 80 to 5 who isn't belting it out. It's a staple in country music. He's truly Outlaw Country and a huge influence on today's Outlaw Country artists. Think I'm fixin' to go grab a six pack and crack up some Hank. Thanks BP!
One song his dad ( Hank Williams Sr) sung was "Your Cheating Heart". On Hank Williams Jr, I would love to hear the song, " All my Rowdy, Friends, have settled down"
Loved this reaction and your comments are spot on. FYI, Hank Jr. has a beard and always wears sunglasses and a cowboy hat to hide the damage that was done to his head and face when he fell off the side of mountain in 1975. He wrote A County Boy Can Survive years after the accident, and even though that song is about the over-urbanization of society, I think it also speaks to the strength and perseverance he had to survive the accident. The man is a living legend.
This was great, and you were spot on with your take on outlaw country. If you get around to it, a deep dive into Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings are well worth your time.
I remember hearing Hank Sr. on the radio singing great songs; took awhile to get used to Hank Jr. singing different songs but grew to like both of them.
Hank William Jr. and Sr. were both awesome. He did a lot, but he has been quite lately. But he is great... He is real country. Him and his dad have their own sound in country music. This is a great song. That true family tradition. Both him and his dad were drunks. But I loved their music. Lol, 😅 I love you the way you get into this song 😅
Hank Jr is the GOAT he’s been singing over 70 years and has broken records in music that will never be touched again. Have almost died of drug overdose and falling off Ajax mountain in western Montana/Idaho border in 1973.
You're pushing it a little being that Hank Jr is only 74 years old, but not by much. FYI he fell off Ajax in 1975, not 1973. What he is referencing in this song is his failed suicide attempt.
@@garygoodman4342 yes the suicide attempt was frog overdose and yes he’s just short of 70 years of playing on stage it wasn’t meant to be an exact number just a rough estimate. So I was off by 2 years from when he had his fall. The fact is that he has been playing for longer then most and I can’t recall the exact number it’s been many years ago but he had a crazy number of chart toppers on the billboards top 100 at the same time that just can’t be matched. Yes times are different now and I’m an old man so I don’t keep up with the new music and numbers, so maybe I am wrong but he was at the top of the charts for his time and no one would have thought he could be outdone.
@agordon7369 music numbers these days are pointless. It's all digital and record companies pay to have their artists streamed 24/7, so their songs go #1 overnight. Hank Jr's 1st show was in 1957 in Swainsboro, GA, 1st album and single in 1964, in 1983 at one point he had 9 of the top 50 country charts on billboard at the same time, he had 11 number 1 singles in the 80s and has 7th most charted songs of any artist in the history of country music.
The thing that keeps me watching these videos, is that you appreciate good music, doesn't matter the genre as long as it's good. That's the difference between someone that listens to music and someone that loves music.
ok here we goooooooo lol 😂 Saw Hank Williams Jr in concert 🎶 yrs ago. He’s a legend tooooo - Like his dad Love from Lisa the lyme warrior 💚🦠💚🦠 His dad was an even bigger rebel w drinking but yes their music was different - In concert when he says why do you drink - people call out to get drunk and and when he says why do you smoke people call out to get hi.. 😂 it’s so funny so you called it rt on response . Love you Mr Black P
Yeah. people at his concerts always answer these questions. Why do you drink? To get drunk. Why do you smoke? To get stoned. His concerts are an experience. I have been to abut a dozen of them. He plays almost every instrument too. You got that right, he is a GOAT.
The song "the ride" by David Allen Coe is about an encounter with the ghost of Hank Williams Sr. On his way to nashville.......must listen
Love David Allen Coe
Might not want to venture too deep into David Allen co though.@michaelcole4197
Aw, HELL YES, that's an amazing song.
This is one of my husbands favorites
And Alan Jackson’s Midnight in Montgomery talks about visiting Hanks’s grave and talking to his ghost 😂
When Hank, Jr., sang 'why do you drink' the crowd said 'to get drunk', and 'why do you roll dope', they said 'to get stoned'.
And when he says why must you live out the songs that you wrote the crowd said to get laid
"Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?"
"To get laid!"

"And corn bread and ice tea took the place of pills and 90-proof" had to be one of the greatest country lines ever written.
Seen Hank 3 times. Outstanding performer.
I love when Hank and Kid Rock sang this together..❤
I saw Hank live in 2007ish with Skynyrd, and nobody knew Kid Rock was there with him that night, so when Kid Rock came out and sang it with him everybody was super surprised and went crazy! It was awesome!
Great reaction!! I smiled the whole time ❤
Hank Williams sr - I'll never get out of this world alive
The call and response to this song has been going on at concerts and in bars for decades
Hank Sr. sang "Hey Good Lookin', What Ya Got Cookin'?" Yes, Hank Jr. was Outlaw Country and he hung out with Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and many, many others.
Music is universal I love all music! ! Music makes people smile and that’s all that matters !!
To me, as a 51 yr old that is has appreciated all types of music, but Country/Rock raised, Hank is my generations outlaw legend! My all- time favorite, of any genre!
I am so proud of you growing up!
Thanks BP!
@5:55 the smile on your face is genuine. It is great. Your mom and dad raised an awesome young man.
One song his dad ( Hank Williams Sr) sung was "Your Cheating Heart". On Hank Williams Jr, I would love to hear the song, " All my Rowdy, Friends, have settled down"
I went to a Hank Williams Jr concert back in 1989. It was one of the best entertaining concerts that I have ever attended!
Hank Williams Sr. Died at 29 on the way to a concert. He was in the back seat the driver did not know he has died. I think he had written a song.
Both are great. Hank sr has amazing songs.
Classic country bar song. Everybody singing the chorus to Family traditions to the top of their lungs with beers in salute! All for fun and kicks.
This was great, and you were spot on with your take on outlaw country. If you get around to it, a deep dive into Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings are well worth your time.
You have to listen hank Williams jr. All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight
Hank Jr has a GIANT catalog of music stuffed with bangers.there's reasons why he was so popular.I'm delighted to see you digging him so much
This is always a fun song to sing at a bar when the ENTIRE place starts singing it together LOL.
My father loved Hank Jr., this made me smile!
I remember hearing Hank Sr. on the radio singing great songs; took awhile to get used to Hank Jr. singing different songs but grew to like both of them.
Oh, Hank Williams, Junior was one of my favorites back in the day Bocephus
BOCEPHUS!!! 🫡
I grew up from the North in the South in the 80's, found Hank in his wild days!!
Hank williams sr , hank williams jr , and hank williams lll . All have different styles of music , but they all rock !
You;re speaking your mind, Glad you are,
Hank Williams Sr. There's a Tear in my Beer.
Hank can play all the instruments in the band, He was on stage at age 5 singing his father 's songs, His mother was a real trip
The thing that keeps me watching these videos, is that you appreciate good music, doesn't matter the genre as long as it's good. That's the difference between someone that listens to music and someone that loves music.
I'm an old country girl and I love your reaction!!! I like your open mindedness. I'm about lyrics, so I listen to you and can appreciate the artistry.
We all the same bro, Blues to Country to Rock to Punk to Metal to Rap !! 🤣😂🤣 ❤❤❤❤ 👍😎👍
Country is story telling....and yes he was an outlaw a beautiful lovely outlaw.
I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this Country Classic! You gave me pure smiles! Thanks! Awesome! 🥰Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🤶
My dad grew up on Hank Williams , I grew up on both Sr. and Jr.
Hank Sr
I'm So lonesome I Could Cry.
I'm loving that you get , Hank Williams Jr. And Hank Williams Sr. Cast a big shadow!❤❤😢
He never got a chance to sing with his dad so he took 1 of his dads songs "theirs a tear in my beer" and sang we ith him
Great songs
It's one of the best sing along bar songs ever!!
ok here we goooooooo lol 😂 Saw Hank Williams Jr in concert 🎶 yrs ago.
