- Near death experience at Peahi (Jaws) January 14, 2018. 99 dollar Costco wave storm ✅, flippers on for slow entry into and out of water ✅, backpack full of heavy camera equipment sealed in water tight bag with no air, also known as a weight belt for scuba divers ✅, paddling out in the biggest swell of the winter at Jaws✅, timing the entry just perfect for the biggest set of waves for the day✅, I knew something bad was coming when he told his friend “hold my beer I got this” The guy in the water turned out to be a amazing surf photographer. Dude came out with a backpack, flippers, and a Costco wavestorm.
I'm a youtube watcher. I surf but will NEVER be of the caliber to paddle out at Jaws. so I just watch POV's from the safety and comfort of my armchair. That being said: paddling out on a Costco foamy with a full backpack? My hat is off to you, friend. May God protect you in your future endeavors.

Dude is a fukn hellman, heavy backpack full of camera gear my guess, cheap foamie, 6-7ft of whitewater, crazy amount of water movement, takes 3 on the head and nearly gets thrown over the falls onto a bouldery bottom before giving up on that attempt and I bet it was just one of the failed attempts before he made it, hat's off legend....if you diss this dude you're a kook.

Brada be thankful u didnt make it out. Those lickins are nothing compared to a couple long hold downs on the outside... leash breaks and then your swimming aiming for the channel and wondering why youre being sucked out to sea. Then knocked 50 yds in by a wave then sucked out then back in then sucked out then back in etc.

The 1st time I went out in a Winter swell in California I had some similar experiences. I could FEEL his struggle watching this. I Started surfing on the East Coast and learned a few things about how strong the ocean can be when I lived in Cali and even more so on trips to Hawaii and Mexico.
Yes it is a different swell...try Indonesia its even more different, like grabbing on to a passing truck

@@MindSurf248 yea you can in the channels in the reefs. Additionally not on a 6+ swell. Been to Bali in the early eighties and the paddle out was Looooong way. Thank the currents on the west coast beaches for building me up. Indonesia then is nothing like today....less people
@@scottgorman7166 Definitley, I went for the first time 2 years ago, I remember getting caught inside at an 8ft airport lefts in Bali. Nailed my duck dive, only to pop up 20 seconds later 50ms further in wondering what the hell just hit me.

Ryan is the man. Few people would have made it out of that. If you get sucked another 50 yards towards the cliff it’s like getting stuck in the shore break in Waimea Bay when it’s big. Not good. He made the right decision to come in when he did.

As a pro half pipe skater at 11 years old im really apreciate the fact that i can walk up a ladder or some short amount of steps an roll in to my wave an it doesnt try to drown me and they call me crazy racing moto gp motocross an skating half pipes....thankfully he got back unscathed as we say in racing....that was a big board to try with....i do know this about swimming that back pack was not helping...ur body is right at the edge of boyientcy i went to a lake an they made us put sneakers on to protect are feet my legs would not float just the addition of 2 sneakers.....next time eat lunch on the beach...u didnt have any moon rocks in that backpack...i hate backpacks everyone looks like theirleaving or going on a hike.....an their just going to class....hey they are very usefull...but i just laugh because i vizual backpackers getting ready to go up everest...peace i wish i video of me getting pounded at the jersey shore for instructional purpose that was a lot of white water

Yeah dude did good,I was in a winter ocean,and found my self think I could get thru with out this float board and then thought I came to surf no board what's the point,hey shit happens I finally got to see and hear the real frosty,and he said it take 20 minutes to paddle out at MAV's if everything goes right,sometimes it don't go,and we look human again....thanks my dumbness my first attempt to try to surf was long before cell phones I would have love to see my 30 to r40 minutes of block headed sad ass duck diving from the beach,lucky when I gave up I was on a rented board,for the day so I just kept trying to drown myself,finish I turned to the beach beat and nobody was looking so I grab my rented board and tryed to look cool like yeah I meant to do that....
