      Hey @touristtolocal I just started watching your videos as my husband and I will be venturing to Cancun next year. I have been planning to rent a car and drive from Cancun to chichen itza and also go to xcaret Park. One of my friends who is an American and traveled to the Caribbean coast over there keeps instilling fear about being a tourist and alone in Mexico. I know you're both from the us or Mexico but do I really have to worry about this if it's from 1 tourist spot to another with minimal to no pit stops on the way? What have been your experience as a couple with this? I know we travel at our own risk but idk I'd like your opinion if you wouldn't mind. Thanks in advance

    Heading to Cancun later this year - we usually head to non-touristy areas, but friends are in Cancun so we're going to visit them and are scrambling for authentic ideas of food to eat and things to do - so this video is great, thanks!

    I am so thankful to have stumbled upon your page while preparing for my trip to Cancun! I made some notes of what to explore and definitely had to come back to this video to let you know we tried El Pocito and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The food was delicious! I only know a little spanish, but thankfully our waitress had good english, so she was able to explain the different foods they had for the day. It was too late in the afternoon, so I was sad we missed the salbutes, but the cochinita pibil and relleno negro did not disappoint! I love getting to experience some of the local spots when traveling and this was it! One man even approached us to ask how we found it because he said he's never seen tourist there lol! Thank you so much for this video!

      @TouristtoLocal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! Our advice when it comes to food is go to places where there are crowds of people, that way you know it's good. Also, at taco stands, take note of how they handle transactions. If there is a separate person taking money than who is serving the food, it's much more sanitary. We didn't have any problems with getting sick this trip :)

    • @TouristtoLocal
      @TouristtoLocal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely get by without knowing Spanish. Renting a car is feasible, just be prepared that the driving here is pretty aggressive, but if you are used to driving in cities you shouldn't have any problems. We only take a copy of Juliana's passport when we are out. Most airbnbs won't have a safe, so just find a good hiding spot. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for the very informative video! We will be on the Yucatán peninsula during our kids’ spring break for 10 days. We will arrive in Cancun late at night and start driving in a rental car to other destinations on the peninsula the next day. Would you recommend staying in the hotel zone or downtown in this case? This will be the only time we are in Cancun during this trip and I’m torn between staying in the hotel zone so we can see the beach at least a bit or staying downtown and skip the beach all together. We will be visiting Bacalar, Cozumel and lots of cenotes so this won’t be our only opportunity to play in the water.

    • @TouristtoLocal
      @TouristtoLocal  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question! If the prices aren't bad, we'd say go for the beach since it's quite stunning to wake up there on your first day. I remember as a kid arriving to Cancun in the night and waking up at the beach the next day and being so excited about our vacation :) However, if you plan to hit the road early in the morning the next day and prices at the beach are much higher, downtown should be fine! You'll get plenty of amazing beach opportunities at the places you're going.

    Hello! Is it safe for two young ladies (in their mid twenties) to travel there alone?

    • @TouristtoLocal
      @TouristtoLocal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally! We saw plenty of solo female travelers while we were here :)

    Hey guys! I'll be traveling to Cancun for the first time in May, my wife though, she is celiac (intolerant to gluten) which is not only wheat products, but also food with additives made from wheat, barley and rye. Do you happen to have a few options that we can take into account? we are probably renting a house for a week.

      The good news is that a lot of mexican food is gluten free, since corn is the main ingredient of tortillas! Tacos, chilaquiles, salbutes, sopes, and anything else that uses a corn tortilla should be safe!

      Thanks so much! The bus is definitely the way to go. Just follow the directions we gave in this video! Super easy to get downtown from the hotel zone.

    Is driving around a rental car in cancun safe?

    • @TouristtoLocal
      @TouristtoLocal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We didn't have any issues! But just be aware that the drivers are aggressive. Definitely not for the meek!

    Had a question about renting a car in our livestream and wanted to add more details here!
    We rented a car with Budget and had no issues with them pushing insurance on us. We have the collision/loss damage waiver covered by our credit card, and in the past, other brands like Europcar refused to take it and made us pay double the cost of the car we reserved. Budget did not do this. They accepted our credit card's coverage with no questions asked.

    Great idea, I'll just ask my Mexican boyfriend and Mexican cousin to accommodate my Cancun trip for me. Why didn't I think of that?
