  • This is a one minute clip of the Emerald Cut. You have to go to King's Landing in Apopka, Florida and pay to launch or rent a canoe or kayak there. Paddle down the launch canal and make a right when you get to the rope swing at the end. You will be paddling upstream about about one quarter of a mile (approx) until you reach the pedestrian and final bridge of Kelly Park. The water is usually about 1.5-2 feet deep here and crystal clear. The actual spring head, Rock Springs, is located another .5-.75 miles further upstream. This is called a run. The river the run confluences with is the Wekiva River. The Wekiva river then flows all the way to the St. JohnsRiver, but not before Black Water Creek dumps in. The three waterways feed the Wekiva River Basin. This is one of two federally protected wild and scenic waterway in the state.
My name is Aaron Phillips and I have paddle this run and the Wekiva River for over thirty years. I provide professional production guide services along with location scouting for film projects. In the 2019 season I will be guiding on Wednesdays and more info about this river adventure can be found on website:
