Hey guys! First off, CONGRATS on starting your channels! But, let's be real for a minute... TH-cam is a competitive place, and it can be tough to get views when you first starting out. Can I show you how?? I just creating a brand new, FREE, on-demand workshop to help you out. Here's the link to sign up and watch it now: www.gillianperkins.com/youtube-growth-workshop/ Can't wait to watch your channel take off!
Shouting out to anyone starting their channel, or about to, JUST start! I started with a used camera and NO experience, I just started making content and I am WELL on my way to beating my 1st year goals by MILES! (just crossed 600! yay). START making content and don't compare your growth to others, your people will find you! Sending positive vibes to everyone!
Thank you Gillian for your channel and all the content you are sharing! Today I have released my very first video! My TH-cam adventure has just started!
Yes please I'd love the next one about planning and getting the shots, I really want to improve the quality of my presentation here on TH-cam so that would be super valuable to me. x
Yes this is important having an outline for your videos can really help bring the audience in and give them the points quick. I actually have shared this on my channel before to help small youtubers. I used to be all over the place and now I have sat down and write out an outline each time.
Yes the Canon m50 is soooo good. I actually use nikon cameras on my channel, but when I save a little more I want to get that or the new sony camera. I always recommend on my channel to use what you have at first.
Gillian Perkins thanks to you, I'm finally getting to have the courage to start my own channel. Im hoping to have my first video up next month. Thank you for making all these videos to help me out. I can't wait to start my channel!
I love your videos! So much gold in your advice and tips. I just started my channel and only have 114 subs but it's growing everyday and watching your videos has given me great inspiration ❤️
I can't believe you have such amazing lighting for the background with just tree lights. I have watched about 50 lighting videos where no one addressed backlighting and if they did it was with expensive options. I thought I was just doomed to a gloomy background. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Gillian... Just found your channel and really enjoying you and all the information I am learning. I've decided in the recent past to start a TH-cam Channel in the semi-near future and am sure that what you are sharing is going to be very useful. I have been a professional photojournalist and first published in 1978 and have decided to venture into video. For the past 11 years I have worked and lived on a cruise ship around the world, 82 countries so far. Because of this I needed a compact system and after some research today I bought a Insta360 One R 1 camera system and lights, mic etc. I wanted something small but something with more features than a phone. It has great image stabilization, shots 5k, slo-mo etc. Of course I also have my Nikon D850 ($3500 body) which is a professional camera which also shots videos. Again I wanted to thank you, I have subscribed and looking forward to more of you video and content. I will make one note one this video... you stated Nikon does not have a large following... perhaps with amateur photographers but they have a longer following with professionals. I shot with Canon for a little over 35 years and switched to Nikon for a couple reasons about 5 years ago.... I consider Nikon and Canon comparable and recently Sony is joining the ranks as well...
Even though she has more than four lakh subscribers!!!!! I believe that she is underrated and deserves so much more for all the efforts that she takes!!! Love you Gillian!!!!!
Hi Gillian thank you for not only so much important and valid information but also your inspiration! Hope all is going well and you are enjoying your maternity leave. I have recently started a travel vlog and your thoughts in your videos are invaluable to my learning x
Your amazing..i love your videos. Yes please video on how you make a full TH-cam video..your channel is the only educational channel I watch till the end
Hi Gillian, I'm a new you tuber and have just got 2000 views in my first 3 months but only 20 subscribers I think I have a long way to go but I have seen plenty of your videos and have learned heaps from you. I have just brought my first ring light (Neewer brand). You put out fantastic informative videos.
Another brilliant video, thanks! Your tips have had such a huge impact on my channel. I started watching when I relaunched my channel last March (it was dormant with 200 subs) and I just got to 11K subscribers! Thank you so much! PS I hope you are enjoying being a Mummy Of Four too xx
Canon m50 is for sure a good camera, that or the new sony that is coming out. I actually use nikon for my channel but I want to get the m50 hopefully soon.
Congratulations on your adorable baby :) You are such a productivity queen :) I hope you are healthy, well and finding some rest in between all the new-born feels :) Take care xx
Great video Gillian. You seem to know your stuff and have a lot of great videos here. I am excited to dive in. I have a Channel and it is something I have come to love, I just get inspired by so many amazing creators. My goal is to help other small TH-camrs grow the right way!
I enjoy your personality and the enthusiasm you bring to your subject. So congratulations and I wish you all success! However, please note that the Sony A6400 does not have IBIS, and your repeated assurance that it does, and that this was a major reason for your buying and using it, was a bit jarring.
Nice set-up! And cute tummy :) love the background in this house with plants and smart idea about tree lights, diffuser and kicker light. Can one use a ring light with an umbrella? (I am not fond of ring effect in the eye) Tatiana
Very important. I I’m a experienced camera operator and audio engineer, editing, ext. I didn’t spend $1000.00 on my new video camera cause I’m not making money on TH-cam yet. Lighting, audio, editing and of course interesting content along with interesting b roll can be done with a $250.00 camera like Panasonic HC-V180. Even your I Phone or other phones.
Hi Gillian! Great video! I'm an artist and I find trying to figure out a set up for TH-cam to be quite intimidating. Do you have any videos aimed at artists specifically. I do fluid art and I need a setup that will allow me to film over the top of what I am doing. Thanks!
Hey Gillian, Loved your video. Yes I would like to see a video of how you record your video. I subscribed and I am waiting to watch your next video on how you record your videos.
Still have just my phone and a window and I am looking for a good portable light because all of these soft boxes take too much space. Any recommendations?
I’m only using my iphone XS and using a natural light from my window:) i hope to buy a vlogging camera when the pandemic is over, or when I’m able to visit a store. Any advice guys where to buy affordable vlogging camera in Toronto, Canada? Thanks..
I like your recommendation of a gaming computer which is excellent idea for enough power for video. I would also suggest have an upgraded XPS Dell computer. Basically pick an XPS system on Dell and make sure it has at least 16GB ram, i7 6-core ideally (or i5 6-core), 256gb SD (for C drive and software) and second 2TB drive HD for storage and most important a fast video card (I prefer the Radeon RX5300 3GB currently available, which is 45 percent faster than the Geoforce card for the same money). That is the basics for a powerful enough video system (at a base minimum) to process Vlog videos fast and reliably in HD for online. I am only mentioning this to help people spec out a system. Next add the 27 inch monitor from Dell that is 100 percent sRGB (accurate color monitor) around $500. for ultra high definition at 2560x1440 pixels. (or go with the Samsung.) Of course there are other choices, but these are mine. Cheers!

Canon m50 is for sure a good camera, that or the new sony that is coming out. I actually use nikon for my channel but I want to get the m50 hopefully soon.
I use Canon 200d (sl2) and I love it. I was inbetween the 200d and m50, but I got 200d.

I enjoy your personality and the enthusiasm you bring to your subject. So congratulations and I wish you all success! However, please note that the Sony A6400 does not have IBIS, and your repeated assurance that it does, and that this was a major reason for your buying and using it, was a bit jarring.

Is the mic that you recommend wireless or wired and how do you connect to a PC? What software do you use to edit videos?
Very helpful, well presented, thank you. Did you mention the Windows editing software you use with the gaming pc? I was looking for that.
This is so helpful for smaller channels like mine thank you!
Good luck on your channel! I know 2020 is going to be a great year for us startup youtubers! keep up the positive vibes!
Awesome Content
This video has been very helpful! I actually need to care about my audio and my graphs because I am doing presentation-style videos!
Thank you, Gillian, I'd clicked on the link for your workshop but it routed me to pay $197/mo to attend.
Awesome
