I started watching this channel years ago, and launched my channel, I have 230k subs and millions a viewers per month. Took me over a hundred videos to finally say, I GOT THIS! Thanks Gillian. ❤
00:00 🎥 First videos can feel awkward and uncomfortable for everyone, even experienced TH-camrs. 02:07 📝 Starting with a simple plan, like bullet points, can boost confidence and naturalness. 03:31 💡 Avoid scripting every word to encourage natural speaking and confidence. 04:50 🗣 Discuss topics you're comfortable with to ease into talking on camera. 06:08 🛋 Before recording, get comfortable with your surroundings and rehearse your first few lines. 06:54 👁 Maintain eye contact with the camera lens for a more engaging connection with viewers. 07:48 😊 Smiling while talking can enhance friendliness, charisma, and confidence on camera. 09:29 💥 Add energy to your delivery to counteract the two-dimensional nature of video. 10:39 🎬 Editing your own videos initially can accelerate improvement by providing valuable feedback. 12:10 🎯 Embrace imperfections and authenticity while finding a balance between polish and naturalness.

Thank you for these unique tips and insight. One of the best videos on this topic that I’ve seen. It makes so much sense doing the editing yourself so you understand the process and limitations when we pay someone to do it.
You are so inspiring, Gillian! 😇 We watch all sorts of creator education videos and the space is mostly male dominated. We are a husband and wife crew and we love learning from a diverse source of educators. Your honesty and personality resonate with both of us and we are so happy when we see you have a new video. Some day when the time is right, we hope to sign up for some of your courses. Thank you for all that you do!
Great tips Gillian! Thanks putting them to practice now. I’m truly enjoying my TH-cam journey, but I have to get tips from experienced people like you. Thanks!
This video popped up right exactly when I was about to hit the record button of my cellphone. I've been trying to start my TH-cam channel for so long, but my fear to not perform good enough on camera has held me back to do it several times. Thank you Gillian, this is kind of a sign of the universe for me. ✨🙏🏽✨🙏🏽✨🙏🏽✨
This is so helpful! Why 9.1k views only compared to your other videos?! Anyway, thank you so much! I love the edits of different YT content creators, the before and after. That was so awesome! I acknowledge how hard it was to edit that part!
Wow, this video was so helpful! I've always been a little intimidated by the idea of talking to the camera, but your pro tips have given me some much-needed confidence. I especially appreciated the suggestion to practice and rehearse before hitting record. I'll definitely be putting that into practice. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Thanks for the tips Gillian. Will be posting my first video soon. I’m trying to be gentle with myself regarding going for perfection. I know I don’t enjoy watching videos with all the “cuts” as they seem artificial to me. Thanks from 🇨🇦
I have had my own URL for quite a while but I've never been able to develop it completely. I am planning to hit it hard starting with the new year. I hope that on January 1 I will be able to post a video every day. I know I've got a great subject or niche as some would call it. I know I will struggle with the videos, but after watching this video I will be able to face my fears, knowing that "it will come". Thank you so much for the information and the inspiration you've given me.
Great video! I just started trying to make videos and the tips answered exactly the doubts and things i saw in myself that i didnt like. Thanks so much, im definitely subscribing !
Some great suggestions, thank you! I’m still new and have lots to learn. So far, for me, I find it easier to be natural if I can’t see myself while filming! (I just do a quick test first to make sure I’ve not cut the top of my head off haha).
Thank you! It's my purpose to make videos on suicide prevention yet I am terrified to put it mildly. Your videos are helping me gain the courage I need. A million Thank yous!!
Great tips. It’s encouraging for me as a raw beginner to watch you consistently looking down or to the side. Thanks for all the great tips. Do you think it’s confidence as well? Which you have in abundance btw. Well done
Thank you love. You are so beautiful and amazing and great at what you do. I really do appreciate these videos to help boost my confidence. I've been through a lot in my life bad motorcycle accident the end of 2013 and I'm going to start my new channel around the first of the year. And your channel is very helpful thank you so much happy holidays son ❤️🥰
Point No.8 is just perfect. People always say I don't smile and look unfriendly and I make that resting b*tch face? annoyed? face. In fact, I was so relaxed and comfy and actually friendly. Now when I edit my video, I know they were right all along 🤣 So, I plan to smile a little bit more, and just be a little less comfy for the next video.
Great vid! How did you cut and close the gap in one move for adobe premiere? All the tips show me how to close all gaps, but not cut and close with a hot key.
I feel like you either do more work on the front end or the back end. I’d rather memorize a scrip and then when I go to sit down there are a lot less takes and editing (I hate editing).
Thanks for this video. Extremely helpful. My suggestion however is to eliminate the extemely annoying and overused TH-camr technique of adding clips from movies and TV. So annoying!!!!
We just started our channel and we have been scripting our videos. We've found that we try to memorize when scripting, and end up doing tons of takes 😬 We're going to try just doing an outline next time! P.S. We totally misjudged just how hard it is to think when looking at the camera!!

My videos look unprofessional because that's what it is about: just an average guy reviewing guitar picks without any sponsors or expectations about making a living from it. I might do a more professional channel on a different topic later on but for now I am having fun

I honestly think that this is one of your best videos, Gillian. I've now made over 100 videos and still don't think that I have mastered this!
Wow, thank you!
And she is honest with numbers. I am glad and grateful for this channel.
I especially like your points on looking in the lens, smiling, and energy.
This is so helpful, thanks for these tips! Just going out to shoot my second video now, excited to implement these things.
Great video and very inspiring. I like that you don't stare at the lens for the whole video and your eye movements are very natural.
Beautifully explained

Hi I am your big fan and I am from India
Great content. What camera do you use for your content
A lot of the time I just use my Canon m50 because it's easy! If I have a bit more time then I pull out my Nikon Z6 for better quality. :)
Gillian, thank you for the encouragement! 💚
You are so welcome! ❤️

I really love the content. What editing software do you use? Do you have a video going over editing video?

Is there a good video editing program, free even? Also where can we get those funny video clips that you sprinkle in? Thanks! Great video.
This is great advice because im a introvert 😂
I'm binge watching your videos now lol
Any advice for what type of editing software to use?
Beautiful video by a beautiful woman
Thanks for this video. Extremely helpful. My suggestion however is to eliminate the extemely annoying and overused TH-camr technique of adding clips from movies and TV. So annoying!!!!
😂
best video
What video editor where you using at the beginning?
adobe premiere pro

I struggle with knowing how to edit.
I have noticed in your recent videos that your speech and mouth don't exactly jive. Is do to editing on Descript?
🌹👍
i cannot help laughing when i face to camera😂
😂😂😂😂😂I can't listen to myself 😂my voice sounds so weird to me😂😂😂
Editing is a big part of this and it helps to have the right tool. Which video editor turned out to work best for you?
I have a big struggle speaking in camera 😅😅😅all English is gone haha😂😂😂😂I struggle alot
I get this😂😂😂
Just have a conversation with the camera like a friend. I struggled with this too.
It would help if I were an attractive woman, but I'm an ugly old guy so......maybe I can use an A.I. model? 😏
