18 char on a thief is a given. but a thief is still simple. try rolling a paladin THAT´S the nightmare. 18/90 min strength (that takes hours alone!) 18 con 18 dex and the obligatory 18 charisma. Man that´s a bummer. i love my paladins burt as i don´t start them until they are OP as fuck i´m literally rolling for hours. or worse Cleric/mage. man THEY are bummers. Let´s just go for the stats that are not debatable Wis,int and dex need to be 18. con needs to be 16 (more is useless for nonfighter classes) that leaves strength and charisma for variation. i don´t give a flying fuck about char i get the ring from the circus anyway. but 12 strength are still nice to have, just so that my character doesn´t collapse under the weight of his own robe. (in combat strength easily goes beyond twenty after level 3/3 because Strength and draw upon holy might. these two spells with a decent sling kill dragons, but i don´t want to crawl out of combat until i found a decent strength item) so a thief is still good to roll. And for rollplaying terms Thieves need 18 int too^^
Best rolls I ever have is 95 total points. I don't know if you can go over it (basically is it more than 18 on 5 stats...). So with that you are just a god, figure of speech of course, as you can easily die no matter the stat you have, (even with 25 at every stats it is still hard if you play casual).
It's possible to be over 95. I did it once, on a bard. I can't remember the exact number, but it was over 100. I think it was 102. It is really weird to see the usual 2 digits pattern break. You know the best part ? This character didn't even finished BG1. It was great but... I just hadn't time to play him back then. And when I go back to BG I went to start from scratch. So he is just a character file now, even though he is by far my best rolled char. However, I do think there is a minimum roll. I have never seen a total roll under 70, that's for sure. And it should definitely happen.
Roll points are between 75 and 108 (18*6) Fun fact : even if some races/classes can have 19, there is no way (unless you patch that) to really have max roll everywhere, you will always miss 1 point. :-) And for information there is a EE Autoroller tools that will simulate a click on "reroll" until you get what you want. Now when I create a char I just cheat and put 95 points as it is the max score I ever use (so not really a cheat as it can happens in game) even if you can put 18 everywhere.
"Imoen is pissed that I kicked her out of the party, but I tell you it's cool and she can come back, and then I put a bear in my backpack." It's D&D, alright.
Just like a real DnD campaign! Everyone splits up whenever possible, the party is destroyed the instant one person needs to do something that interrupts the meetup schedule, and half of the game is invalidated by weird shit until one person becomes a Mindflayer and eats everyone's brains.
Good commentary - factual, descriptive, and funny. I typically spend about 3x as long simply creating my party, so clearly I'm not a speed runner. Mind flayer OP AF.
YES! GDQ! thats what i want from you!!! nice run, nice runner, nice couch-crew, nice game!!! (even tho i never played it myself, i know its kind of a milestone)
give it a shot and do play with party. solo runs are addicting once you know the gamebut it takes much of the game cause the characters are so well designed. like every character has his own personality. it´s one of the best rpgs ever
There was a lot of silly, but squeezing a bear through a keyhole was probably my favorite. I would LOVE to see a programmers react video to some of these game exploits.
@@Diotialate and the full game (without throne of Bhaal!) was 4 discs. BG1 was even 6 Discs. and yeah you can literally play the game for years and haven´t seen it all.
I have played this game many times, not only does character creation take more time then this, i also don't have clue what he did most of the time. Well done!
...wut? I've played this game up and down, and I knew there were glitchless speedruns before but I'd never seen a glitched speedrun. You just snapped this game in half, and esoterically too.
I never get tired of learning about the various things that can be done in this game. Mind Flayer and Time Stop is just such a deadly combo; although I admit I never thought of combining it with Tensers transformation; I should have done though as the mind flayers not particularly good in melee unless time stops used! Even the infamous Draconis from Throne Of Bhaal is no match for that. Lol I mind trying it on him when he was in his human form and as soon as he shifted to his Dragon Form he dropped dead immediately because he still had 0 intelligence. His human form cannot die as it needs to survive to initiate the transformation but his dragon form can. Even Yaga Shura's vulnerable to it because it can be used to kill him without having to get rid of his immortality. Fair enough he's immune to physical harm but not intelligence being drained.
Wow, I've never watched a speedrun of this prior. I always knew how broken this game was, but great to see it in action. Still my favorite RPG of all time, and can't wait for BG3.
I have a question. I noticed every speedrun of BGI and II I've seen goes for either Lawful Evil or Neutral Evil as their character's alignment. Does having a lower starting Reputation help in some manner? EDIT: Or does it have to do with the familiar the character gets? Oddly, one BGI run I saw didn't use Find Familiar, but still went Neutral Evil.
And I feed him a meteor... OMFG... Holy cow, I never figured out that you can just have infinite money stealing/selling items... after years of playing this game (and every other one in the series)...
OMG I just noticed Irenicius doesn't even get to talk to you after you drain his intelligence. Normally @38:34 he would say "Curse you *protagonist*! I shall not be defeated by you!" . However not in this case. He's already lying dead by the door! Funny thing about that Mind Flayer trick and timestop is that is a legit way to kill him. While it could be considered game-breaking to a point. It is still something anyone could do without going out the way to break the game.
its not really that hard in mid game(on normal/core rules) it imprisoned one of the pt, and cast 2 or 3 spells to do some dmg after that every1 went all out and killed it they might have nerfed it in EE, and i never seen more than 1 "super mage"
Looks like he can optimize the run by duplicating the limited wish scroll? But I guess if you're fast enough, you don't need to. Also, does the Enhanced Edition not include Throne of Bhaal?
It does include ToB. However, I have yet to see speedruns of that. If I had to make a gues, I would think that a lot of the... techniques used here do not work on the final enemies in ToB (since they are immune to timestop) and casting a bunch of lv 9 scrolls is not quite as powerful as it is in SoA, so it is way harder to get through with just one character. I have done (non-speedrun) single character playthroughs of ToB (non-EE version) and know that getting past the ravager and the final boss was a bloddy mess as a sorcerer that had lots of levels and equipment. I know people made even more difficult playthroughs where they basically had to throw away all equipment they found to really test the limits. So (at least for the non-EE) doing a single character run with similar ideas that you would use in a speedrun is possible, but not sure how "fast" it would be.
The old Black Isle games are a bit outdated to new players, but Icewind dale is a good game, Though Icewind dale 2 is more interessting imo. Icewind Dale has a kinda buggy story and not as high level as you might want. Still Trial of the luremaster and Heart of winter were good additions. If you want the best game, then Baldurs Gate 2 Throne of Bhaal is the best Black Isle game. Amazing story. And also contain the Watchers keep. Best dungeon level I have ever played,

Casually they're the best, but I saw Clairvoyance scrolls used a few times which is a spell Conjurers can't cast. There's no enchantments used, though, so Invoker gets you the bonus spell slots at no cost.
You can after patches, but this was run in the release copy of the game before that feature was added. A large number of the glitches that make this run possible are patched out in the same updates that add cutscene skipping, unfortunately.
Yes, I prefer speedruns that are played on the latest version of the product. I hate speedruns that seek out the version that is most optimal for beating the game as fast as possible (unless that happens to be the latest version).
Almost all PC game are specific version unless the run is a "glichless" one. And on a glichless run it means that every patch can change the way the speedrun must be done, so there is no longer reference. I prefer glitched run because every speedrunner has the same version and can do the same things if they want. And the category "glichless" is almost never done as it is not fun at all to just see a guy playing like you do except for some specific games that require real talent. For example, what's the point of looking at a 4 hours of Final Fantasy ? If you know the game it is just boring, and if you do not know it, well, it is 4 hours of just watching a guy play a game... you better play it yourself in that case, it is more interesting, don't you thing ?
I'd rather watch a player play the game well and have something for me to strive for to match than to watch a player break a game beyond comprehension or exploit specific bugs in specific versions of the product and be treated like a god for it. ie: I prefer speedruns where the player adheres to the way the developers intended the game to be played, which game patches often try to reinforce by fixing bugs.
I see what you mean, but it is a marathon, so the aim is to go as fast as you can. And I don't think there is speedrun of BG without bugs... Otherwise you can watch "lest's play" video. :-)
Nichlas Nielsen I think the enhanced edition projects your active weapon on top of the portrait. The toothy thing is actually the mind flayer's mouth, sucking brains out of its victim.
I remember this game. I picked it up and tried it. Spent 4 hours running around that castle or whatever it is you're in, killed everything I could kill, talked to everyone I could, and clicked on everything. Couldn't figured out how to progress at all. Ended up uninstalling it and never looking back.
I find it most impressive that he can explain the complex glitching stuff he does _while_ playing. Epic level multitasking.
This run is also called "Lawful Evil man running at top speed lies to all of Faerun"
He finishes the game faster than I can create a character.

I got 99 in my last character rerolling about 2 minutes or less. Never imaniged I could get that high that fast.
This is literally the very best speedrun over the internet: quick, funny, and 100% explainatory. That guy is totally chilled. Love his style!

Can confirm
my friend was chaotic evil vampire and ended up eating all of us.... he is an idiot.
TheitaniofRome YOU MEAN HES A GENIUS!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
George R.R. Martin added a lot of character to the run
What an amazing speed run!!!, from a long term Baldurs gate / lcewind dale player, truly awesome!!
Good commentary - factual, descriptive, and funny. I typically spend about 3x as long simply creating my party, so clearly I'm not a speed runner. Mind flayer OP AF.

Truly incredible run. So entertaining and clearly tons of skill involved. gg, bro.

Snark Marx Work, work!

Thank you for doing this run. Really appreciate it. After so many years I'm playing the game again. With new mods it is still amazing
dude.... that was amazing
Oh my god this just popped up on my feed, pretty legit.
Oh hey, didn't expect to see you here.

Me too, I was baffled throughout his speedrun
one of my favorite game of all time :)
This was so much fun, good job! :)
Probably my favorite gdq 2018 runner commentary. Wish it was longer...ironic?
Wow, he beat this game in less time than it takes me to finish the first dungeon. Wow.

Wow. Great run. Keep it up SGDQ!
played this game 5 times and never knew that there is a door right at the beginning in the corner.

brilliant stuff!
I love that guy on the couch lmao :D
Never would have thought anyone would even consider this for a speed run.
"So then I put a bear in a backpack..."
They miss the mark a little on release date, it was 2000.. Pretty quick after BG1, 1998.
Why did he put 18 in CON when mages cap out at +2 per level at CON 16. Did they change that in EE?
Anyone here from 2024! As cool as this is, I would take my sweet ass time with this masterpiece!

u can kill the magic police actually, after like 6 or 7 times they get one that has timestop
if u kill that one they stop coming

Why not skip the starting cutscene via Esc?
wasn't possible till patch
What patch?
I've been esc skipping since EE came out.
no you haven't lol it wasn't possible until very recently
Your definition of very recently must be very different than mine, this was possible at least since SoD, maybe even EE.
Oh really? Then why, in the patchnotes of 2.3, a patch that game out quite some years after EE released, does it say 'can skip cutscenes as of 2.0'?
Wow these are impressive glitches.
wierd, you can press esc to skip all cutscenes in BG2 EE

Who are the guys on the couch?
They didn't introduce them. Are they speedrunners?
In blue it is Brossentia (I hope I write his nickname right), he is dressed like in the game "Tintin in Tibet" (he ran this one in this AGDQ).
Now I'm going to put a bear in a backpack
Holy shit!
Isnt it a bid wierd hes playing on an older version of the game? I mean these glitches are not possible anymore i assume?

yeah, pretty annoying.
That was chapter 2. Its over. Lol
what's with the weird portrait change? sometimes it looks like a toothy worm is overlaid on the protagonist potrait
Nichlas Nielsen I think the enhanced edition projects your active weapon on top of the portrait. The toothy thing is actually the mind flayer's mouth, sucking brains out of its victim.
38:11 wupp, wupp, wupp
uum I thought I did well playing non stop for 18 hours to complete

speed run BG2 na glitchach? haa tfu na ciebie
Ok this guy's commentary is great but I think he's speaking too fast for a lot of the audience. Either that or it's really late.
Awesome speedrun, but EE version looks worse than BGT, and much more glitched
