I started with Punchy's SH2 run, then watched the SH3 UFO ending run, and now I'm here. He's an absolute joy to watch and listen to.

Forever Zero never understood what people find scary, there's not really any jump scares in the silent hill games, and the radio warns you of all enemies? 🤷♂️
Craig Adams yes. Jump scares actually “scare” you. As in your body reflexes and it gets your heart rate going. Hearing radio static and some creepy noises in a video game? How is that remotely scary?

Punchy is such a likeable guy. When you see him running or even on the couch you know you're in for a memorable run. Awesome runner and awesome entertainer!
idk if you saw his ESA run of this. but boy that was memorable. but not entertaining. not really his fault. but he was getting more and more visibly upset as the run went on.

@Stana999 it's been years and years since I commented this but to answer your question, he was being talked over the entire run. People around him were eating McDonald's and whatnot and talking about that, it was like a shitty bro podcast was trying to usurp his speed run iirc.
I ended up clicking on this because of its title and my curiosity to see what game this speed run was for. I was most definitely not disappointed. Punchy's explanations are very clear about everything and Punchy and his couch cast are hilarious. Great fun to watch.

One thing I love about speedruns is how it doesn’t make sense for the character you’re playing most of the time. Like story wise for Harry to wake up and immediately take off on his mission to find his daughter knowing exactly what he needs to do and where he needs to go is so funny to me

At first I thought the runner was annoying, but as it went I turned out liking him. He is very on the ball with his comments.

A lot of people loved BotW, but 2018-01-10 01-59-54 was my real game of the year for 2017.
This video ages like fine wine... but i think its Punchy's charismatic dialogue/explanations in the whole stream that makes this entertaining. I come back to this just to watch his runs every now and then. Still can't believe its only been 4 yrs...

I'm glad the couch had confused faces just like me when that one donation comment said "SH was the first survival horror game". Maybe they meant it was THEIR first survival horror game, but it definitely wasn't THE first.
I had to pause for a second after that came up.
I think resident evil holds that title, only because they coined the term "survival horror". But they're not the first, since they have been horror games before RE.
John Beetles Alone in the Dark created the modern formula, RE perfected it.
The first survival horror game is probably the one that Resident Evil was inspired by. Released only in Japan for the Famicom. I believe it was called 'Sweet Home' or something like that.

I keep rewatching this because Punchy's incredible at being funny, even though he's doing everything on the fly as a speedrunner. His comments on the Superman 64 run is the perfect example, just making an excellent joke on the fly.

Punchy is my favorite speed runner by far, he is really funny but is also good at the games he plays, and that's not even mentioning what games he chooses to run *cough cough* T.R.A.G *cough cough*
Still strange to see those knife children, for someone who had the PAL version of the game (where they were replaced by mumblers due to wacky regional censorship daftness - enemy behaves the same regardless). Either way still the scariest a Silent Hill game has ever got. 3 came close, 4 went more weird than scary, 2 went more tragic than scary, but 1's still where it's at when it comes to feeling oppressed by the atmosphere.

Fantastic Run! I had a question for anyone though, everytime I ever played Silent Hill, i'd waste all my ammo right before the end boss, as it caused him to instantly die and you didnt have to fight him at all. Is there a reason the speed run doesnt use this strat? Is it somehow faster to face the final boss? (sorry if im common sensing! ;D)
dont know if you ever got an answer, but I think I know why this is and why it might not be used in the runs. If you're a bad player and lose all your ammo before the final boss, the game has a failsafe that'll keep you from softlock. Ie, the final boss mightbe unbeatable if you don't have a long range weapon. Speeders deem it time consuming prob, so that may be why it's not used.
It's because you not only have to waste ammo boxes plus what's loaded in the gun. If you play on easy, your ammo boxes are doubled, so even more to waste. Then you have to cycle through your weapons in the menu, taking a bit of time each menu load, and fire each gun leading to the clicking from being empty. Then the boss dies. More time consuming than just killing the boss.
36:00 This point onward is just hilarious. Suppose the interesting thing that can occur when you travel outside of your country, noticing all the things that are weird about the country you traveled to that the people there treat as normal. XD
Would the UFO ending be a faster run, since it ends at the lighthouse, saving several minutes doing Nowhere? I get you gotta beat the game first before you can unlock the gem, but I've found the game much more forgiving if you do the UFO run on medium difficulty, that running through town is hellish.
The rules for any% specify playing on new game and not new game+ so you cannot get the UFO ending. UFO ending itself is a category though

The enemies don't have random health, it's that the shooting is inaccurate. It's one of the things that the Devs put in this game to make it more realistic. The whole idea was to make you feel like an ordinary person, rather than a game hero. I regularly read OPM and PS Power at the time.

"playing it safe"...I just remembered my first playthrough of Silent Hill 2. Was so conservative with my health items that I went most of the game with under 50% health....guess which ending I got ;)
I just beat it for the first time last night, the game drowns you in resources even on normal difficulty so i finished with like 10+ medkits and drinks, 300 handgun bullets, 150 shotgun shells, 40ish rifle shells lmao

why does he kill the boss with shots isn´t this one of the sh games where the boss just dies when you go in with no ammo?
Yeah that's the last one. However, all ammo must be consumed BEFORE the fight takes place. That way he needs to shoot up all his ammo, which takes time because you can't run and shoot. So I think that's why.

That's called IGT or 'In game time' which means he's done it without the loading screens, pausing etc. Very common in speedrunning. If it's a RTA (Real Time Attack), it means the total time is taken. Anyhow, people with slower computers (more waiting time), could never achieve a WR with RTA. That's why IGT is often used.
The german version of this game changed the kids to pigs 😅
