I want to point out a few things. 1. I have watched Harley for a long time an the love part seems to always get misunderstood. The love Harley is suppose to have is suppose to be one sided. The way it comes off as you describe it. Is both sided. As for 5:17 hearing that voice sounds pleasant. Then when you see the movie she sounds like this. 6:33 That deeps voice is what bothered me. I do not like her for the role. An as for the actor who you keep showing as Joker. The problem i had with him is. He hardly smiled and when he did. He had braces. We want the original costume. A costume is suppose to make one stand out. Not wearing one. Makes you less important. This includes the Thick lipstick. 7:58 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Batman the Animated Series was meant for Teens to adults. it was not meant for kids. They just considered it safe for kids. this may sound weird, but I dragged my mom to watch birds of prey (after I watched it alone at first). She suffered abusive relationships from man, and she loved the movie. I could see her eyes sparkle. She also always had a hard time making friendships with other women. She loved it so much she wants to take me to (another) rewatch. A comic movie never hit her like that. And I'm so, so happy it had a positive impact in an actual serious issue.
yes! when i saw Jared letos Joker i inmediatley saw my ex abuser and i almost had to leave the movie, made me tremble to m core. Ive always felt a pull towards the joker- harley story and right there realized why. when i saw birds of prey it made me feel so powerful and validaded, seeing the raw suffering yet poweful outlook harley has reminded me of myself. loved it and love margot robbie for putting that into her character
I think anyone who has ever been seduced and trapped in a relationship by a narcissist can relate to Harley quite a bit. They take advantage of your empathy, and over time they imprint their worst traits onto you so they can convince you that you are just as bad as they are.
I think it’s also cool to note that the hyenas probably have more symbolic meaning than just their laughter considering that in the wild female hyenas are actually the ones in charge of their male subordinates
Well no, it IS for the laughter, Harley had the hyenas (originally) because they were Joker's pets, but they attached to Harley and she loves them so they stayed more with her while Joker didnt care.
I'm really glad they are taking back harley's childlike whimsy personality in birds of prey, after completely messing her writing up in the show, making her just crazy and hot.
@@ives6622 im currently watching it, it's good but as the og commenter said, her child-like personality is gone. They portray her on the show more crazy
@@ives6622 it's pretty good yeah! but for me it serves as a kind of revisited version of the character, kinda like an elseworlds story, mainly because harley's missing so much of her core characteristics
I think Harley could be more popular than the Joker, she has a lot of the traits that make him likeable but has more depth, vulnerability and heart. It’s simply wonderful.
well he's more old (speaking of creation) than her and have a lot of movies too, so people know him more and for a long time. harley just need a chance and people don't seem to want to give that chance right now, that's bad cause the movie it's perfect.
@@beasttitanofficial3768 I'm a girl and wasn't really interested in seeing this movie tbh. One thing is because, like I've heard from other comic fans, Barbara Gordon(batgirl), should be the main focus in a Birds of prey movie. She's the one who started the team and she's also a woman. Harley Quinn doesn't have anything to do with this team.
it frustrates me to no end to see men complaining about how birds of prey "de-sexualizes" harley quinn. she is wearing gold leather overalls and a hot pink sports bra for gods sake! that IS sexy! but more importantly it is practical AND showcases harley quinn's personality much better then suicide squad! suicide squad literally boils harley down to "joker's property" by displaying his ownership of her on her clothes and tattoos. but birds of prey actually show us harley's character through her outfit- like good costume designs should do. through the gaudy pom-pom sleeves we can see she is loud, fun, and quirky. through the overalls we can see she is vibrant and a bit childish (overalls are typically something a child would wear). they even have diamond patterns which is harley quinn's symbol, like superman's S or the riddler's question mark. i think the birds of prey costumes are definitely an improvement.
Raquel Garcia I think it would’ve been better if she wore something similar to her OG jester costume. That way it’d be showing no skin and still keeping with Harley’s personality cause think about it, if she’s becoming more childish then wouldn’t it make more sense for her to wear the childish Jester costume?
@@tylerjames805 I don't believe Harley Quinn's classic jester costume would translate well into live action. It would look too cheap and gimmicky. I love the OG body suit but it only really works animated.
It's also something Emilie Autumn did before that. She was doing it at least as early as 2006, but she didn't get as much widespread popularity despite being actually a really talented musician and singer who is really good at evoking emotion.
I really miss 90s Harley. She’s my favorite of them all. There’s something about her childlike wonder that made me fall in love with her. Plus, she wasn’t sexualized that much, so her character felt like a breath of fresh air to me. I’m glad they’re bringing back her playful, more innocent personality.
Yes! I'm not a gamer nor a comic collector, so was unaware of just how much her character was destroyed until seeing promotional stuff for Suicide Squad and was enraged. *That* was not Harley Quinn! But seeing the trailers etc for her Fabulous Emancipation has me intrigued and hopeful. The fact that she's finally left her abuser is interesting enough on its own.
ForeverSunny suicide squad sexualized her character so much that the actor margot robbie has to ask them not to wear sexualizing outits that’s why in birds of prey we dont see so much of her skin. im glad they bring back the childish personality. also in the NEW sucide squal by james has me hype because they brought the original color palette of harley which is black and red
My favorite scene from the comics by Harley is her figuring out Black Canary was pregnant and talking about her child with the Joker. It’s surprising to see these two badass women just sit and talk about the most feminine thing in the world. The second is when she’s just wailing on Dr. Light because “Some of us had to go to school to EARN that title!”
Mystique Dreamer the comics are conflicted. Some say she slept her way to her doctorate, others say she got her degrees legitimately. Just like how no one seems to be able to agree if she’s a psychologist or psychiatrist.
@Mystique Dreamer She also was on her college gymnastics team, dependent upon which version you go for. And I wouldn't say she slept her way through college, per se, as much as she slept her way to better grades than she would've gotten... hard to say what those would've been, as she is actually a pretty decent doctor, insight-wise.
It's amazing that Harley Quinn and Joker are separately the two best DC characters right now. But bringing them together has not gone well on the big screen just yet.
That's because Ledger's Joker never got to have a Harley Quinn. That would have been electric and worthy of a movie about just them two. Who wouldn't turn from Harlene to Harley for Heath's Joker? He was pure awesome.
@@gypsywoman9140 I don't know how well they would have gone together. That version of the joker kind of needs no backstory. They made a big point of it in the film. Giving him a gorlfriend would have hurt the character. Something between Ledger's and Phoenix would be better. She obviously wouldn't fit into Phoenix's Gotham City, but put a modified version of that character into Nolan's Gotham and have Ledger play him and you'd have a dream setting for Robbie to thrive in that role.
@@peaceyisrael7386 I don't. It was a great movie partly BECAUSE it was a stand alone not connected to the larger DCEU. I don't think they should make another one with that Joker. But they should experiment with other standalone stories based on DC without trying to build the EU that they've failed at so miserably. They aren't Marvel, they should stop trying to be Marvel. Their characters are more interesting. Their stories are not. Explore the characters.
This is a really interesting take. I figured she was another oversexualised comic book character, and seeing suicide squad didn't help much. But I'll give the next movie a shot. Thanks.
Go back and watch the award winning 90s-00s animated series for the original iteration of Harlely and arguably the best. She's always been a complex character, even when they began to sexualize her appearance more over the past decade.
I agree. She comes off as a male fantasy, in my opinion. He can treat her as badly as he wants and she still sticks around. The relationship between her and joker is an abusive one. I'm glad they are, hopefully, taking her character more seriously and moving beyond her childish demeanor. Which honestly, again my own opinion, I find creepy that her acting so much like a child is sexualize. Reminds me of Lolita. The hypersexualization of childish behavior.
@@saraheerie Yeah, but at least in the animated series she actually got her own licks in on the Joker when he went too far... like almost shooting him (and would have, if the gun weren't a prop gun that had "rat-tat-tat" come out on little signs). I hate when people look at her and only see a helpless victim, when there were times that Joker was legitimately scared of what she was capable of, too. Which is why I love in the original Suicide Squad where Waller says she's crazier than he is.
That's what you get when you let women write stories about other women, they got the perspective that's key to making a relatable, flawed and likable heroine.
Except your statement implies that men can't write relatable, flawed and likable women. All of the great female characters in pop culture past and present were predominately written by men. Not to mention that in Birds of Prey, every single male character is a rapey misogynist because to female writers, men have to look bad to justify a woman's reaction to them. It's misandry really.
꧁༒planning gaily༒꧂ She actually does say that. She starts off by saying that she needs to graduate, get a PhD, work as a Psychiatrist, break patient out of Asylum, fall in love with said patient and then begin a life of crime. That's what she says in the movie
@@fire2fireable No, but I meant that why does Vy Nguyen only click when The Take is analysing a female character. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to be implied that Vy Nguyen only clicks when they are analysing female characters but not male characters.
If you like Harley Quinn, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Harleen, this three issue miniseries that was published last year. It parallels Harley Quinn to Harvey Dent and shows a version of how Harley Quinzel became Harley Quinn. I say version because it’s DC Black label, so it’s alternate universe and very mature, but not to a gimmicky effect like some other black label stuff. Also, I usually care about the writing much more than the art, but the comic book has absolutely stunning artwork, in addition to film worthy dialogue.
Yes! This is the best thing that came out the DC Black Level so far, and the author did wonders to her characterization. It's nice to see that people (including this chanel) are recognizing Harley's complexity.
for my money the best incarnation of harley is the original, so i'm glad this video recognized what made her so special originally and some of the flaws with her modern characterization. also kudos to you ladies for acknowledging her relationship with poison ivy!
Harley is also a testament that true feminism means that it's ok to want to exist within the traditional roles of a wife and mother. Harleen is exceptional and always felt like she would be betraying her talent if she wanted that "simple" life, but true feminism means she's allowed whatever she wants, even if it doesn't fit the current idea of a "strong independant woman", because being brilliant and a wife and mother.... They aren't mutually exclusive, despite the tacit expectation in our current societal binary that they are.
Harley did become a mother. She left Joker and hid her pregnancy in fear that he would kill the baby. She later left the baby in the care of her sister and visits when she can. She supports Black Canary with her pregnancy after Ollie dies.
@Glenna Smith It doesn't--at all--but jeepers in my professional career I've seen motherhood talked about with such derision by professional women I had to do an internal double take
Glenna Smith it doesn’t but modern feminism has created this idea within us that we should want so much more than that. It’s almost as if you can’t be a feminist if you want to be a mother and a wife, it’s really sad it’s gotten to this point
@@kay-leighlewis9322 It's an endless source of frustration to me, especially because the level of hypocrisy is unreal. These women say they are "for all women" and yet they deride when a woman makes a decision that she wants to be a homemaker etc. WAT?? They aren't for all women then?! Something's gone very wrong here
I never knew how much I wanted Birds of Prey until I saw it. Polished, refreshing and full of heart. The possibility of seeing other characters like Poison Ivy, Vixen and Zatanna in this style is pretty exciting.
It's crazy that Harley started as a throwaway character in the animated series meant only for one gag and now has a movie, a TV show, an ongoing comic, a miniseries with Poison Ivy and two separate Black Label books about her origin all at the same time.
The Harley/Joker Bad Romance episode was my intro to how to recognize abusive relationships as a kid. I hope Birds of Prey gives her the movie she deserves.
this is such a mesmerizing character, capable of so many terrible things but never losing the love of its viewer, that is no easy feat, im always amazed at how rich the dc characters are, id say behind batman Harley is easily the most fascinating, im so glad that Margot has such a protection and understanding of Harley. But I do like the sexy portrayals of her because somehow it expresses also some marginalized instincts women might have, Wonder Woman woudnt dress in a overly sexy outfit for her day to day life as people might judge her, but Harley feels no shame in showing herself and doesn't care what others think, I think this is an important message.
@@jackyoh971 Harley's actually Chaotic Neutral, properly played. She has moments where she chooses to do the right thing, and times when it's just, "Let's blow this place up."

My only problem with modern renditions of Harley Quinn (and other Batman villains) was her being insane, and how her redemption arc was based on "oh she was abused". Harley, like many of the other Arkham psychologists, worked in Arkham to learn the inmates secrets and become famous. Joker appealed to her desire to feel special by telling her a sob story, making her think she was unearthing something new. There's also the fact that she liked him because he brought excitement to her life, and was willing to enable her patients criminal behavior, thus committing a HIPAA violation. I like Harley, but I don't like the "insane" Harley because it takes away her agency as a villain.
Agreed. Honestly, the way she originally was, short of "showing the Joker," or being stuck in a life of crime, I think without the Joker, she'd probably, realistically, just try to get her life back together, like she did in the one episode where she was pronounced "sane." She was literally only into crime because the Joker is.
Yes, i am not a fan of the "insane" thing. Like if no one could do bad things because other thing that insanity. Of course when you go big with the villains (doing genocide for example) is not like is a normal person, but you don't have to go writing that he was "expose to the edge of the time and space" or something like that. Thanos for example was "not insane", he obviously suffered trauma and we could talk for hours about "God complex" or things like that, but the movie didn't did of that a whole thing. The same goes for the good ones and the Asperger thing, there's not detectives that work hard or are reasonable intelligent anymore; all is "he is a genius, finish the university at age 10".
My problem is that they're trying to make Harley an Alpha when she's not and never has been. Harley is a groupie, she likes attaching herself to more assertive people like Joker, Poison Ivy, and even Batman.
@@xengar Well isn't getting rid of her 'groupie-ness' the plot of the movie? She's gonna from being Joker's groupie to being her own person. Otherwise what's the point of Birds of Prey?
I agree with Joker’s relationship with Harley made him worse. With the Batman family even at his worse, he’s having his own kind of fun and having a very warped connection of humanity with Batman especially. With Harley, we get an actual picture of what he’s like behind closed doors. At best, he’s psychologically manipulative through lies and half-truths and worse, he’s psychologically/emotionally/physically abusive to the point of being murderous- to the point that being killed for failure or outliving usefulness is a mercy to prolonged abuse. Beneath the Clown is a monstrous jerk to anything that isn’t his top interest.
80s were times when a woman, even with a Doctorate in Psychology, couldn't become badass just for the heck & fun & greatness of it without embarrassing readers. This article, and your recent Take on Betty from Archie's, shows how these characters are rewritten in keeping with the modern times. It's rather hopeful.
The reason people tend to like Harley Quinn over characters like Captain Marvel is that he has flaws, she loses but gets back up. She's an actual character whereas the perfect characters like Captain Marvel and Rey never struggle so are more caricatures of feminist ideals of the woman that never struggles and is able to do everything. Harley is engaging because of her issues, seeing someone who is always independent, doesn't take damage and always wins is not engaging because we can't learn from it as people. The heroes journey is all about obstacles and struggles, it's how we learn to better ourselves as people and I for one think it's a shame that one of the best examples for women isn't a hero, but a villain (most of the time)
Exactly. Captain Marvel still struggles for a while but Rey is shown as this perfect person. Things just happen for her without struggling. Filmmakers need to understand that "a strong woman" is not the same as "a flawless woman".
God it’s so crazy how much I see myself in Harley. Loving someone who will never love you and is only using you is what I experienced before. My first love used me , screwed me over , and then turned around and left me for another girl he only knew for a few months. Yet I still loved him years after he left me. Also Harley is my favorite character to play in Injustice.
TheLeah2344 you do realise Harley doesn’t love him? It’s more of an obsession, Harley Quinn has Stockholm syndrome, and she is abused. If you relate to any of this, you would get help, likeee lol
The new animated Harley Quinn series portrays her perfectly. She will ALWAYS love Joker and be vulnerable when it comes to him but she can still leave Joker and thrive without him (even though she'll miss him terribly).
And I love just how casual the prospect of superheroes and super villains are in this world. Like, I love that the Joker and Bain are just attending co-workers kids Bar-Mitzvahs and it's not even that big a deal or that Harley and Ivy jus thang out on the couch and watch the Today Show. It's probably the closest thing to my Mindy Kaling She-Hulk show I want but will never get.
I really liked this vid. I think it’s so cool how a character who was initially written as just a little means to an end eventually blossomed into this sorta icon. It’s awesome when that happens in writing
Whoever came up with the "hair tie?" moment on Birds of Prey deserves a prize. Because it's the type of thing that made this movie awesome like how she is not wearing a lot of clothes on her fun outfit at the begining but it's not for the male gaze.
It's not just women who can identify with Harley. Paul Dini wrote in the intro to 'Mad Love' that he wrote her inspired by his own failed relationships. "It's happened to me, it's probably happened to you, and if it hasn't happened yet, rest assured someday it will. At some point you will meet that one special person who will put their fist through your heart." - Paul Dini
Oh my gosh what a great video :) Can you please make one for Poison Ivy, she's such a complex character and she;s hardly ever talked about. I would Love a video of Ivy to show my family and friends when they ask me why she's so amazing and complex.
I love Margot Robbie's take and protectiveness over Harley. She's fighting behind the scenes to make sure she gets her own movie, written and directed by women. She's trying to get Ivy introduced, a key relationship since the beginning but missing from the current DCU. She's also making sure Harley doesn't go back to her Suicide Squad 1 days (that much is obvious with her new look in SS2. ) Keep up the amazing work, Margot! It's much appreciated by us Harley Quinn fans
CAMARA MAN I feel like it shows that Harley will always choose joker when push comes to shove she’ll choose joker bc she can’t deny that she loves him and will always have a connection with him and maybe if she gives that up she gives up everything she is “she serves” and she’s grown so close to that title that she doesn’t know what to do without it
Such a beautiful discussion about HQ and the significance of her character. I've seen a lot of vids about HQ, but this is by far the most explored study regarding her impact on pop culture and her history. There are even key points and instances that I never realized about her that were very trivial! I love HQ so much for years and I'm happy she gets a short documentary that supports her character definition. Thank you for this! ❤️🖤
If you like Harley, you should definitely check out Harley Quinn, Breaking Glass. It's beautiful and tells a very diffrent Harley story, but still has harley be herself, and be amazing. Furthermore, the art is beautiful, and it's a really fun read.
This reminds me of how hard I cringe every time I see that one meme that goes “Other girls are like Cinderella waiting on their Prince Charming. I’m more like Harley Quinn waiting on my Joker”. Just an unhealthy mindset for young girls or others who desire to be valued in their relationship(s).
Oh, it's worth noting that DC Comics previously used a Harlequin ( Dula Dent)character who was first The Joker's daughter, then Two Face's daughter back in the mid-70's. They've brought her back a few times, but of course ret-conned her background and given her different code names.
Guys, let me put an end to all the debates by saying - it's Margot Robbie. It's all her. If another actress played Harley, I don't think the movies would've been nearly as successful. She practically carried 'Suicide Squad' on her back, so yeah, Margot Robbie ladies and gents. It's that Aussie charm.
Fantastic video, but not including Harley's traumatic Scarecrow scene with an illusion of Joker from the Injustice games is a missed opportunity. "Take" a look at it and you'll see that it's hugely important to what Harley could represent moving forwards.
My favorite versions of Harley are of course the original, the injustice version and now the new animated series one. I’ve always liked Harley as a character growing up. Her fun personality, her design and backstory were interesting to me. I also liked how in injustice that she finally got over joker and can lead her own gang and be an anti hero. And her new animated series captures her flaws really well. Can’t say much on the movie cause I haven’t seen it yet but I’ll check it out later.
you know little something I've been thinking about for a Harley Quinn retcon (don't worry it was mainly for PG cartoon retcons) long story short as a what if... after falling in love with the Joker; instead of becoming his sidekick, she decided to become a superhero instead & yes it is exactly the flip side of the manga Precarious Woman Executive Miss Black General,
man you know, somehow I can't wait enough for Lauren Faust's spin on Birds of Prey for DC Super Hero Girls, if &when Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain& Renee Montoya, show-up,
I can’t say enough good things about the current Harley Quinn cartoon. It is seriously R rated but tackles a lot of Harley’s faults and has been building Harley and Ivy’s friendship. Also Ron Funches has ruined anyone else as King Shark for me.
I definitely think that she carried the suicide squad movie and I’m very excited to see birds of prey when I get the chance her character is such a classic
My favorite run was probably Kessel and Dodson's in the early 2000s! Harley has been hella over saturated over the years though. I still cannot believe Jim Lee named her as one of the "four pillars" of DC.
@@jeanbutinfrench I remember liking some of Connor's run in the new 52. I think I stopped reading her newer things though. Iunno, it was just too much and no arcs were super memorable. Remember when she had Black Book, Gang of Harleys, and starred in SS? Harley overload lol
@@Chandasouk thats what happens when a character get popular haha, overload is the constant state of batman, I think people like her comics when they are silly and disconnected, because universe following all the time gets tiring
@@ChaoticButterfly me too. She was suddenly fourth wall breaking. I admit that Red Tool was such a silly Deadpool parody that made me chuckle though lol
Harley was my favorite character on Batman TAS, so it's been frustrating seeing newer comics over sexualize her. Good to hear they are toning that down.
5:17 Harley in the Batman show talking about how she’s always been attracted to extreme personalities and Poison Ivy is at the forefront of the shot when they pass her cell. Even back then they knew. 🤣🤣
Harley Quinn is a character very few have gotten right, in my opinion. Just like how the Joker is a hard character to get correct. She shouldn’t be just DC Deadpool, she should be Animated Series Harley Quinn, but should be expanded on. Like they do with the whole Ivy and Harley Friendship or Relationship however you see it. Or hell, that one episode where she’s finally proven sane and leaves Arkham, no joker, no anything. Yet is brought down to crime again by a mere misunderstanding and Bruce tries to help her. She is a deep character that is extremely hard to get right.
I know it's addressed in the video, but I still think it's weird and interesting is that Harley started as a character in a kid's cartoon and slowly became this raunchy trope. I'm glad they've dialed that back in recent years. It's also worth noting that in real life you do have women who fall in love with mass murderers and are Charles Manson groupies etc. If Harley was a real person, I wonder if she'd be les Bonnie Parker and more Squeaky Froam ( at the original version)?
for once never think I will fall for Harley, I mean she's like the text book "crazy girl" that someone might never feel similarity towards. But when you look deeper her problems and complexity are indeed relatable :)
Harleen Quinzel: (looking at Poison Ivy) I've always had an attraction to extreme personalities. Harley Quin: *becomes gf with Poison Ivy after dumping that pesky clown*
just imagine, there’s a scene where Harley has enough and either is going to leave or wants to die and joker pours his heart out to her stating why he loves her and actually does care for her, but just doesn’t know how to show it and she leaves him for a while (birds of prey) then they end up rejoining and being equal and back to being crazy
While Margot Robbie is a good Harley Quinn, the character was not given enough arc. The plot was predictable and mainstream, especially due to lack of a strong antagonist.
I just wish Huntress, Black Canary and the other get leading ladies get some sort of origin stories, it is called Birds of Prey but I feel like it will still be centered on Harley.. Not just focused on Harley, we'll she had her origin story somehow in Suicide Squad.
It does actually give an origin story for Huntress, Black Canary's is hinted at but not fleshed out, the detective (forgot her name) also has a backstory. It's told through Harley's perspective but it really is more about what's going on with the others, and in Gotham; Harley just happened to be directionless at the time and kind of tagged along/accidentally got way more involved than she intended to be, but she just went with the flow because that's what she does.
I didn´t really think about it before but your video made me realize how i didn´t even pay attention to her clothes in Suicide Squad but i just loved every single outfit she wears in Birds of Prey. The difference between a look made only to be desirable and one that takes into consideration the perspective of the woman wearing the clothes. It made me want to go out and buy her clothes because it wasn´t only 'sexy' like in Suicide Squad, but also fun, practical and comfortable to wear, and cute! It looked like a woman dressing herself, because while a part of us wants to be 'sexy' and 'desirable', that´s far from being the decisive or main factor when we´re in front of the wardrobe. No woman i know would choose what´s basically panties with a tight, ripped shirt and high heels if she knew she´d have to go around jumping and kicking people, but they might put on a shiny golden jumpsuit and a pink top. I loved the scene where she goes back to grab a glittery fanny pack, as it makes a direct contrast to the scene where she grabs a party purse in Suicide Squad. Fun and practical Vs. sexy! We all get the appeal of both and I loved they decided to give her both.
I wanna go watch Birds of Prey again. (Also, Wonder Woman’s quote at 10:29 reminds me of my mom. She works for a school district and is an advocate for marginalized people)

Amen 🙌🏼
your comment really hit me haha
Yeah you got that right
That is a fantastic way to nutshell it, thank you.
Happened u too huh
I think it’s also cool to note that the hyenas probably have more symbolic meaning than just their laughter considering that in the wild female hyenas are actually the ones in charge of their male subordinates
Wow, cool point!
Wow cool informational tidbit.
The animated show?
Wait the 2019 show? Idk but I heard it was good
@@ives6622 im currently watching it, it's good but as the og commenter said, her child-like personality is gone. They portray her on the show more crazy
@@ives6622 it's pretty good yeah! but for me it serves as a kind of revisited version of the character, kinda like an elseworlds story, mainly because harley's missing so much of her core characteristics
The animated Harley Quinn show is sooo good?
I think Harley could be more popular than the Joker, she has a lot of the traits that make him likeable but has more depth, vulnerability and heart. It’s simply wonderful.
Box Office says otherwise. No one is seeing this movie.
well he's more old (speaking of creation) than her and have a lot of movies too, so people know him more and for a long time. harley just need a chance and people don't seem to want to give that chance right now, that's bad cause the movie it's perfect.
Joker is an iconic villain, he's always going to be remembered as the bane of batman's existence.
It's just bc men babies can't handle a woman being strong and fearless so they only like Harley when she's half naked being sexy 🙄
That way it’d be showing no skin and still keeping with Harley’s personality cause think about it, if she’s becoming more childish then wouldn’t it make more sense for her to wear the childish Jester costume?
yesss
@@tylerjames805 I don't believe Harley Quinn's classic jester costume would translate well into live action. It would look too cheap and gimmicky. I love the OG body suit but it only really works animated.
Raquel Garcia Thats why I said something similar. I agree that the original full costume would look silly in live action.
@@tylerjames805 Well maybe one day we can see something similar to the OG costume. I liked the outfits in this movie though. 🤷♀️
I honestly like how Harley has the heart on her cheek, kinda like Marina's Electra Heart era back on 2012. It fits so well tbh
YES
She dropped a new single like 2 days ago. 'About Love'.
ELECTRA HEART WALKED SO THAT HARLEY QUINN COULD RUN
HaleThePanda that’s what i thought of when i saw that, glad other people thought of it too
It's also something Emilie Autumn did before that.
OMGSTFU I totally agree
I think birds of prey has a lot of similarities to the 90s Harley
ForeverSunny tbh, i feel like harley fans sexualize her more than she’s sexualized in cartoons and movies.
I really loved how dedicated Margot Robbie is. She looked so much like Harley Quinn esp when she smiles it was creepy.
@Mystique Dreamer Shes still insanely smart she just hates being all button up. She could have slept her way thru college and still earn it properly.
Mystique Dreamer also Dr. Light is a villain. Didn’t know if you realized that since it seems you thought he was a superhero.
@@klausoshaunacey8429
Doctor Light is also a superheroine.
@Mystique Dreamer
She also was on her college gymnastics team, dependent upon which version you go for.
Still isn't
Sam the new 2019 joker movie was a hit so I hope they stick with him and not the suicide squad one

Interesting take? Thats who she is, its not a fan fiction or something
Soirema you can’t blame them, their first discovery of her might be from Suicide Squad

Just as a correction, it's titled Harleen, not Harley, and the author/artist is Stjepan Sejic.
But I can't read comics or else I'm a "cool girl trope"

It doesn't. They completely ignore the abusive relationship other than stating the Joker didn't love her.
this is such a mesmerizing character, capable of so many terrible things but never losing the love of its viewer, that is no easy feat, im always amazed at how rich the dc characters are, id say behind batman Harley is easily the most fascinating, im so glad that Margot has such a protection and understanding of Harley.
The moment when she gave a hair tie to girl with long hair during fight - is the best scene in superhero movie ever

@@xengar Good point
"I've always had an attraction for Extreme Personalities" [shot of Poison Ivy] lol
Preach!!

I can’t say enough good things about the current Harley Quinn cartoon. It is seriously R rated but tackles a lot of Harley’s faults and has been building Harley and Ivy’s friendship. Also Ron Funches has ruined anyone else as King Shark for me.

i'm still hoping beyond hope that there will be a Harley Quinn / Deadpool crossover at some point, either in the movies or the comics...
Nah, Harley and Ambush bug or LOBO. Yeah, lobo is much better than deadpan.
Can't wait for the movie!! Thanks for the video exploring women's intricate personalities and portrayals
Harley Quinn is an amazing character with a lot more depth than she's given credit for.
I freakin love Harley Quinn can't wait to see birds of prey this Sunday 🤩🤩🤩
for once never think I will fall for Harley, I mean she's like the text book "crazy girl" that someone might never feel similarity towards. But when you look deeper her problems and complexity are indeed relatable :)
"You got Harley Quinn out of Harlleen Quinzel. Nice job Genius."
I hope I got that quote right
One of my favourite line from her
Harleen Quinzel: (looking at Poison Ivy) I've always had an attraction to extreme personalities.
Yeah it's a mess
"...rev up your Harley? -- vroom-vroom!" ¿how could _anyone_ say "no"?
Beautiful essay on a beautiful film and very interesting character.
I'd love to see an Evolution Of video on Balalaika from Black Lagoon. She is a straight-up queen!
You should read Harleen and add that origin story to the evolution. It is amazing!
Don't you want to rev up your Harley?
Best Harley line.
5:20 wait i have that exact cat plushie .. a nurse at the downtown hospital gave it to me 12 years ago! Wha-
I wanna go watch Birds of Prey again. (Also, Wonder Woman’s quote at 10:29 reminds me of my mom. She works for a school district and is an advocate for marginalized people)
